This is part 2 of the photo essay based on my water pump replacement. Yours may vary. I am assuming no responsibility that any of this information may apply to you, or if you skin your knuckles.
I have no idea how I got here - Back to Part 1
BEFORE YOU DO THE NEXT STEP, measure the distance from the back of the pulley to the back of the pump. See the last photo in the next section to note where to measure. You'll need this dimension for reassembly.
Here are the old and new pumps side by side. Note that the impeller on the old one is sticking way out the back, this is because I had the shaft pressed out of the pulley from the front. This is the only way to do this, if you try and use a pulley puller on the pulley in the conventional manner, you just bend up the pulley. This takes a good hydraulic press - the guy running it said it broke loose at about 10,000 pounds of pressure. This of course wrecks the old pump, but so what. The new pump shown is the one available from Car Quest. The shaft is kind of long but we'll take care of that later. DO NOT cut the shaft off yet.

Here are the other parts of the pump, glass-beaded and painted for reassembly. I used clearcoat on the pulley. This was my original pulley, the grease slung out of the pump had preserved the original finish perfectly.
