Regarding your mysterious clock (time advance) problem.
Did you happen to notice if the speedometer was stuck at 88mph at the same time?
There is a whole club out there dedicated to this kind of stuff that might be
able to offer you a reasonable explanation. Keep us updated.

Chase,

The tach thing does bother me too, but it seems typical of all
Deloreans I've seen (and I've looked specifically at the tach!).
Even in the owners manual that came with the car, the interior
shot shows a tach sitting at 1100 rpm.

OK, my turn for some input. I've always been interested in DMCs. Last year I bought a 1981 DMC with major body
damage. I havent had alot of time to "play around" with it, so it is just stays there covered. At this point I
am looking to find another DMC that needs mechanical/drivtrain and/or interior repairs. If anyone can
point me in the right direction it wood be appreciated.

I have now moved into my new apartment and will soon be updating the
archives and getting my shit together once again. I expect to have
everything up to date by the weekend, and will make a few changes to the
web page at that time as well.

I would also like to encourage all the lurkers to at least introduce
themselves to the rst of the list, especially the non-US subscribers. I'd
personally be interested in knowing not only how you found out about the
list, but how you became interested in the DeLorean. Don't be shy, as
long as you're not bashing the DeLorean, your comments are welcomed!

It's nearly tire time for my DeLorean, and I'm looking for a good tire -
I always hated the tire threads on other mailing lists, so I don't want
this to turn into a long drawn out deal. I live in the desert, so I don't
need an "all-weather" tire, 'cause the only weather we have is hot and
dry. What is everyone else using?

Chase - As I understand it, yes it is normal for the tach to behave as
you described. My five-speed does the same thing, and all the other cars

While I will admit to admiring the Bricklin for what it is (and I'll keep
my thoughts to myself), I am first and foremost a DeLorean fanatic. I
wanted a DeLorean since I was about 14, when the car was first actually
sold (you do the math), and now that I own one, I wanted a place where
other DeLorean owners AND enthusiasts could converse about things related
to the DELOREAN, not a 300SL or a Cimbria or a Bricklin.

I started this list because I had questions about my DeLorean that I
couldn;t get answered easily by any of the DeLorean parts houses or even
the DeLorean Owners Association. As the founder of this list, it is my
hope that this list will remain centered on the DeLorean. Everyone who
agrees with me, please show your support by PARTICIPATING in the
constructive exchange of information - even if you're just asking a
question, you're still participating.

I thought for a change of pace it would be interesting to know what delorean
stuff everyone has out there. I will start with my list.
1) An original brochure.
2) A 1982 poster of a delorean.
3) Two of those toy cars everyone was talking about unopened.
4) A DMC pin (I have no idea who or where or when it was made).
5) The original issues 1977, or the prototype D in Road and track and car
and driver.
6) A hologram type sticker I got in a sticker machine 6 years ago.
7) A small personal note signed by JZD.
What does everybody else have???

Subject: Casper the Friendly Oil Gauge?

Well, here I am again pondering the ghostly attitude of DeLorean gauges
(Huhhmmm, might not have anything to do with Lucas electronics and U.K.
electricians on the assembly line). I have been told that the oil-pressure
gauge on all DeLoreans reads at or near the highest mark all the time when
the car is running (except for idling at red lights of course).

Mine isn't pegged like some others I know, but does reside between the top
two marks most of the time. I was just curious is anyone has an oil gauge
that reads lower? And if anyone has ever come up with a fix that gives the
oil gauge a more useful reading than "pegged but keep on driving"?

A couple of summers ago, I was replacing a halogen headlight bulb on a
{non-DMC} vehicle. There was a good storm on the way with lighting, etc. I
was laying on my back trying to work the bulb in it's socket when I saw
some cloud to cloud lighting up in the sky. My own personal _clock_ got a
pretty good jolt, since my bare arm had excellent contact to the car body.
Of course, this was not a direct lightning strike; just a charge in the
atmosphere.

I would compare it to a few notches below touching a bathroom faucet while,
at the same time, turning on the light on a ungrounded circuit.

Are you talking about the clock in the original radio? Electronic circuits
can act strange when there is lighting around. I have an exercise machine
with an electronic console that will *beep* with every nearby lighting
strike in the area.

Subject: Poor Car!!

hey there...just a little comment. Near my house, there is a body shop or
something, at one time over the winter, I drove by and noticed a delorean
sitting in the lot of this shop. All winter it was there, and I would
drop by on occasion to look at it, visit, if you will. The poor thing
sat there all winter, through one of the worst winters we've seen in years
mind you, outside...and it apeared that the only thing that held the door
closed was a log that was placed on the roof/door hinge. Now I have
since gone back to college...I returned home just last weekend...(about
about 2 months later) And she is still there!! I have to assume that
no one owns her..why would anyone let this happen?!? She still sits there,
you could tell that she has not moved yet! ARRGGGHHH!! It angers me to
see that happen. I mean, someone just lets it rot there and clearly
doesnt deserve the machine, while I wont be able to afford one for another 2
or 3 stinking years...I wish I could have it to nurse it back to health
...I could take care of it..oh well...I digress.
thats all...

Lightning is a very powerful electrical current which always comes with
powerful magnetic waves. These magnetic waves induce electrical currents in
any electricity conducting material within a certain range from the
lightning strike, like in the wiring of your clock so that it may have
altered the time. But there is another point.

Magnetic waves cannot enter a closed metal box. This is known as the
Faraday box. Cars are just like these Faraday boxes. Magnetic waves do
not enter the car. So I doubt the lightning would have anything to do
with the advancing of your clock.

Subject: Body dents & Transmission Shifting

My D was kicked by a good ole' boy with his cowboy boot outside a
night club. It is not bad but you can see the dent in the driver's side
door when you get the light right. What is the likelihood of popping it out
from the inside of the door panel? Are there any special techniques that a
person needs to know about working with stainless steel as opposed to sheet
metal? I can live with it the way it is because I'm the only person who
notices it util I bring it to their attention. SUGGESTIONS?

My auto transmission does not shift into third gear. I am afraid
that it needs a new governor. The one on it was replaced about three years
ago but it has less than a thousand miles on it(I drive the car infrequently
but keep it immaculately maintained). Before I send it to Steve Winn at
DeLorean One in Houston I would like to have ideas from others who have
found similar problems with their automatic transmissions. I have had
transmission problems since the first day I owned the car. I replaced the
transmission once to the tune of $4000.00 with Pat Wiley in Plano. I
immediately started having the same problems.

I have been told to check the throttle cable alignment and the cable
to the transmission. I do not know how to do this but I have the manual and
the tools to do it. If anyone has solved shifting problems this way please
post a reply on this bulletin board. By the way when I go up hills and
really hit the throttle the transmission will pop into third. I was told
that this may be a symptom of cable misalignment. I hope so and am willing
to try but would appreciate some advice from others. Thanks

I have a little concern with my engine temp. gauge. It almost

half way to the first tic mark. Is this normal? I am extremely
