Subject: Luggage rack wanted

A couple issues back I saw someone post a message that they had an
extra luggage rack for sale. I'm taking a road trip for my honeymoon
and a rack would come in most handy. If you still have an extra rack
and are interested in selling at a reasonable price, please contact
me.

I've also had a problem with accessories not fitting properly into
the lighter socket. Wether it is larger then most lighters, I'm uncertain.
The lighter itself fits perfectly into the recession, so I can assume it is
how it was meant to be.
For the most part, I usually have to make certain there's
sufficient slack in the line and that whatever I have plugged in is at
*JUST* the right angle to allow the plug to make good contact. I can't
really think of any other solution. Just a small nuciance really...the
lighter works good so I really have no reason to replace it.

        Wolfie!

Subject: DeLorean Stripes

Does any else have the official DeLorean black stripe on the side of your
car.
I did... now I don't.
The stripe pieces between the wheels I just recently removed.
I still have the unused pieces that went in front of the front wheel wells,
and the pieces that went behind the rear wheel wells.

I don't need them, or want them... I figured someone else out there could
keep them as spares if you also have the stripe.

Buy or trade?

Coming soon... a list of early '80s auto magazines that featured the
DeLorean.
Contact me if your interested.

Rob:
Sign me up for the model. If Art can be talked into going back into
production, I'd be interested in 2 or 3 kits. Let us know what happens.

Subject: More about models

In the last issue of Delorean World, on page 23, the coverage of the
Vegas Expo shows a picture of a "Mr John Spangler" and his models.
This
picture shows him holding a display with a highly detailed scale Delorean
model including a complete frame and drive train.
I don't see John's name on our mailing list. Does anyone know him or
how
to contact him? I'm very interested in finding out a lot more about these
models. It looks like he does some fantastic work.

      Thanks, Marty

Subject: Convertible DeLoreans ??

I remember seeing a couple of posts the last few months that mentioned
a
convertible DeLorean model. If I remember correctly someone is having
a
DMC-12 chopped into some kind of soft-top vehicle. Until this past year
when I bought the Porsche and then the DeLorean, I had never owned
anything
but convertible cars. I LOVE the rays of the sun beating down on me and
Beach Boys music during the summer. If anyone knows more about this
conversion process and the final results, I'd love to learn more.

Thanks!

Subject: RH Drive

Damien:
Some info I read a while back stated that Delorean just started to
build
some RH drive cars at the time the factory closed. These cars (approx
35) all
stayed in England and only a handfull still exist. It required some 50 or
so
different parts from the LH version. I would guess a revised fiberglass
tub
was probally one of the major pieces.
You might contact Jerry (AT) KAPAC. He's got whats left of the
factory,
including fiberglass tub molds, but I don't know if any of its for RH
drive.
He might be an excellent source for information though. Let us know
what you
find out.

Subject: DMC Chrysler and JZD's intentions

>About the merge with Chrysler, it's unsure if this was a joke on John's part
>or not. This was before Lee I. had brought Chrysler back on it's feet. At
>the >time it was believed that if he had swung the same kind of financing
>he had >for DMC he might have been able to make a non insulting offer.

If he could have swung the same kind of financing again that he was able
to
obtain to start DMC in order to propose a merger with Chrysler, then he
would have been able to come up with the measly $12 million needed at
the
end to save DMC from bankruptcy. I say measly because he had secured
nearly
$200 million to date to get DMC off and running.

As as far as his plans for future cars and original intentions of the
DeLorean DMC-12 go, there is likely NO one that knows the truth there!
JZD
was notorious was stating misfacts, creating things out of air, and
overstating his accomplishments. He did whatever it took to make DMC a
reality. His goal of producing 40,000 cars annually definitely states that
the DeLorean was not just to be a luxury vehicle for those with two or
more
other cars. He wanted to compete with the Big Three automakers in the
United States. Of that there is no doubt, but everything else should be
taken with a grain of salt in my opinion.

Subject: Corrosion on Electrical Switches

I have taken apart the entire center tunnel and console of my DeLorean to
install a new stereo and fix the fan speed selector switch (loose back on
the switch itself) and the vacuum leak in the mode switch. I think it's
already been worked on once before as the screws were slightly rounded
and
the mode switch had more than a foot of electrical tape wrapped around
it.

I resealed the fan switch with super glue (the glue really worked for
once), and will be reassembling the mode switch with silicon grease. The
only corrosion I have seen anywhere is a little rust on the coil spring in
the mode switch, some rust at the back of the shifter plate and also on
the
lower inner and outer parts of the cigarette lighter. Since I had
everything else apart, I've taken apart the poer window switches and
found
a bit of corrosion on their electrical contacts. Same is true with the rear
defrost switch but to a lesser extent.

BTW, I replaced the lower speedo cable and resealed the plastic end cap
on
the angle drive last weekend. I sprayed WD-40 all around the protuding
pie
ce of the angle drive ands the speedometer worked for a while. It then
went
out again, more WD-40 and it was fine for a shorter while. Same thing
again. Yesterday, I sprayed Dura Lube in it about five different times
while it sat. Maybe that will work better.

Also, nothing new on my clock jumping ahead in time. It is keeping time
normal again even through a heavy rainstorm last week. Must have just
been
a fluke.

Well, it's time to undo my wiring harness and put in new speaker wires
and
then tape it all back up while I have a stereo outfit cut a hole in the
metal plate where my new stereo goes. I'll let you know if any of these
repairs work. I'd be happy with two out of three myself.
