A convertible D sounds most interesting. I am thinking the most efficient
way would be to convert the gullwing doors to side-open... I know, I
know,
the wings are 75% of the car's image, but if you wnat a convertible
roof,
you gotta comprimise.
Or maybe I have no clue- oh well.
Anyways- what happened to the fellow making a reproduction Doc
Brown time machine? Anyone hear of this fellow?

In Response to Rob Hook's posting... I would be interested in about
3-4
of the DMC mods for the BTTF kits, so as soon as you hear anything,
please let
me know.. I've got one small problem though, as I am a Sophomore in
college,
the current semester is almost over (ending may 3) and my account here
will be
wiped for the summer semester. I will be available at this email address
until
that date. If Anyone wants, please Email me before the 3rd, and i will
give you
my home mailing address. Also, as i will have to unsubscribe from the

would still like to keep up with it.. is there anyone out there that would
be
willing to print and mail me the editions that i will miss? As i said... just
email me before may 3 and i'll give you my home address...

Put me down for at least one, possibly two of the DeLorean models if we
can talk the guy into making them. By my count we should be up to about
10 or so - are you keeping track of these, Rob?

Rarer than SSI is the book, "The DeLorean Tapes", which was published
in the early 80's by the Sunday Times of London. This rare book contains
transcripts of the FBI tapes made during the investigation of John
DeLorean. For those of you who have read JZD's account in his
autobiography, read (and judge) for yourself what the REAL story was!

This book was only published in the United Kingdom. and I'm told that the
total print run was somewhere around a thousand copies. I have secured
four (4) copies of this book in excellent condition and I would like to see
them go to real "DeLorean-freaks" who are looking for perhaps the most
elusive piece of their DeLorean memorabilia collection.

My asking price for each book is $50 plus shipping - interesting trades
preferred!

According to my parts manual, grey wheels went up to VIN 1883 and
silver wheels started with VIN 1884. Note also that the center caps are
different for these two wheels, too.

John Spangler is a high school senior here in the Phoenix area - we
drove up to Las Vegas together. He does not own a DeLorean, but I'm
sure it's just a matter of time before he does. He is a member of the
DOA and has been for several years. His models are incredibly detailed,
with working suspensions (ball point pen springs for coil springs),
domelights, three working lights in each door, carpeting, lighted
dashboard, removable spare tire (with hold down strap!) - and more,
they are truly incredible works of art. He has a method of attaching the
doors so they get the same "bounce" when opened. If I remember
correctly, he has about 300 hours in the model pictured in DeLorean
World.

John starts with one of the BTTF models and then does MAJOR surgery
on it, removing all the BTTF artifacts and cutting open the doors, trunk,
etc. He fabricates the frames and the engines, too.

(Marty - I included his phone number in the package you should be
receiving this week. Also, I got my steerig wheel center piece from
DeLorean Motor Center in Gardena - about $60 i think)

Subject: Ventilation

OK, my repairs ar completed for now and for the most part were quite
successful. The hissing from the mode switch is gone thanks to lithium
grease and silicone windshield sealer. The climate fan works and in all
four speeds now. The angle drive appears to be history though. The
speedometer worked for a while, then failed as usual after about 10
miles.
I suppose it could be the upper speedo cable or gauge itself, but I'll bet
it's a worn out angle drive.

Well, now I have the ability to circulate air throughout the car, but only
through the vents beneath the dash. I have triple checked everything in
the
centre console and all vacuum lines are attached and sealed, but there's
no
air coming from the dashboard or door vents. I know this is a common
complaint of owners. I am curious if there is a way to open these vent
ducts manually and leave them wide open rather than leave the vents
controlled by the vacuum lines?

You can ride in a convertible DeLorean 365 days a year at "Back to the
Future...The Ride" at Universal Studios Hollywood and Florida, but I'm
sure
that's not what you meant nor would be the same thing, since you never
get
to take the car out on the town, and you have to share the vehicle with 7
complete strangers!
But it is a lot of fun time travelling to the past, present and future!

Subject: Gas door, fading, rt hnd drive

Does anybody know which VIN #'s come with the small, individual
door for the gas and which VIN #'s you have to open the entire hood in
order to fill up? Also, in looking at some Deloreans to purchase, some
advertisements say "faded stainlss steel." In doing research about the
Delorean, I've found information saying that the Delorean's stainless
steel
requires no upkeep, it doesn't need to be waxed, and it won't rust. If
this is true, then why have these few Deloreans exteriors faded? Is it a
big problem to restore the shine to a faded Delorean? What can I do to
prevent my Delorean's exterior from fading once I get it? Does it help to
wax the stainless steel, or even if it doesn't help, does it harm the
stainless to do it and would it make the car look nicer? Also, do the
painted plastic caps on each end of the car require waxing?
A quick comment about the right hand drive car: I know a few of
these were made towards the end of production, and one of them was
purchased by Simon LeBon of the rock group Duran Duran.

My rear louvres are a dull, non-attractive black color right now and I am

Subject: Common Faults FAQ

There has been a fair amount of discussion/interest expressed DeLorean
FAQs
concerning common faults and their fixes, buyer's guide, and
cross-reference parts. I have been interested in compiling this manner in
a
professional manner since going somewhat blindly through buying a DeLorean
six months ago (although David Takeuchi, Knut Grimsrud, James Espey and
John Truscott helped me out tremedously).

Starting next week I'll begin work on the common faults and
cross-reference
FAQs. Don't expect immediate results, however, as this will not be a
"high"
priority on my to-do list for each day. As I work on the list I will post
my musings from each section for comment (whether it be praise or
disdain).
Luckily, the car is fairly simple to understand and work on (although I
have yet to touch the engine and transmission themselves).

Naturally, the list will continue to evolve as the months go by and will
be
available (by request) to post on web pages. I'll keep you all posted on
the progress.

Chase:

The louvres and engine cover are original dull black. You can get a
nice deep black color on the louvres by using one of the products
around for conditioning the black exterior parts on a lot of cars.
Raindance's "Bright and Black" works great.

Ok, so this is a very MINOR bitch, but I have noticed that my windows do
not lower equally on both sides. The driver side window goes down about an
inch below the sill, while the passenger side window stays above the sill
by about a half-inch. I was curious if anyone else has noticed this on
their DeLorean? And does anybody know if this can be adjusted somehow so
that the passenger side window lowers further down?

Also, I am not real thrilled with the way the metal bolts holding the seat
belt show inside along the center tunnel. Has anyone ever found caps from
other cars that would fit over tightly over these and hide the unsightly
metal? Again a minor bitch, but it does distract from an otherwise lovely
interior.

Hi, everybody. I've been in a timewarp (NOT in VIN 10059, but working a

 read intermittant newsletter articles
since I warped out in October of last year. Now I find I need a new
upholstery job, and bang, there's an
entry about our easy slip-on upholstery. Pardon me, but my seats don't
look
like slipons. Please tell me
more: who has actually purchased new leather seat upholstery, and where
can
I go (in LA) for how
much to really
get my seats re-done? I know Robin ___ picked up two skins when in
Ireland
for that earlier Expo, but
short of that I don't know where to start. My mechanic got me a price of
$800 to re-do one seat and
dye both seats to exactly match. He wasn't any happier with the price
than
I was. He says he can put in a
pair of recarro-s for less than the going rate for reupholstery. Please
advise with hard comparable data.

Subject: New Leather for Seats

Cindy:

They aren't slip-on covers in most people's terms, but the leather part
of
the seats are easier to replace than in most any other car. DeLorean
Motor
Center in Garden Grove, CA (714-554-6794) use to, or still does, list a
complete set of lower and uppers covers for both seats for $812.50 for
non-members and $731.35 for members ($35 annual fee to join their
discount
parts program). I think most of the DeLorean specialty places have new
leather in stock for the seats or could obtain the items without too much
hassling.

I believe it would be possible for a mechanically inclined person to
replace the seat covers. I am not basing this on personal experience, but
rather on what I've seen from looking at the parts book. And I am sure an
upholstery shop could complete the job within a mininum of effort.

KAPAC still has the original leather, but I have been told they won't sell
them because the leather has aged and dried out too much over the years
and
they are concerned the seams might bust if installed and put to regular
use.

Randall,
You can purchase the console section, without the clock cut-out, from
KAPAC in Columbus, Ohio...the '83 did not have the clock in the console
since the ASI radio had the clock built into it. I actually bought the
console section with the cut-out and found a clock in Pennsylvania which
has been working fine for about ten years now ... am keeping ht eoriginal
console section in case a future purchase wants to return the car to
"original" condition. Hope that this info helps.
