Yep, I have a flatbed anybody may use. Will easily scan a 3.5x5 glossy into a high
quality 1024x768x16mil .BMP or .JPG. If anybody would like pics scanned, just mail
to "Aaron Barrus, 2255 N Univ. Pkwy #15, Provo UT, 84604". I'll email, FTP, or even
snail-mail them back to you.

Also - Everen Brown took pics from our expo in Vegas - I could scan those and put
them on James Espey's delorean page, if anybody is interested? As long as Everen
Brown doesn't mind . . . ? I also have plenty of other pics from the events which I
took myself.

I also have an original sales brochure, with all the pics and diagrams, etc. If
anybody would be interested in a scanned version of this, I can scan it in and put
it somewhere for people to download.

Jameel -

First off - don't try to do EVERYTHING at once. I know its quite tempting when
you've just gotten the car, but all you'll end up doing is viewing the car as a
money pit. Take care of the mechanicals first, and save the cosmetics for when
the car is a reliable daily driver. It sounds like you're on the right path for
the most part.

As far as the coolant overflow bottle goes, bite the bullet and get one of the
redesigned aluminum bottles from one of the DeLoreans suppliers. You'll be happier
in the long run. I got mine from DeLorean Motor Company in Houston. You will need
to bleed the cooling system when you change this.

Angle drives are another one of those parts that I know of no other source for
than a Delorean supplier. I think PJ Grady has them on special right now. In the
meantime, check out the "RPM to MPH" table on the DeLorean Mailing List web page at
http://www.goodnet.com/~mikasa/rpm2mph.html - it will help you gauge your speed
until you get it fixed.

I bought my shift boot from Swedish Autoservice (RIP), all the DeLorean vendors
have redesigned boots that have a metal frame. I would put this off until the car
was mechanically sound. The $70-$80 can be better spent elsewhere.

I have the Girling numbers for the parking brake pads at home (I just moved so I
still need to find them - but I know where they are) amd I will send them to you
tonight or tomorrow AM.

You should probably join the DeLorean Midwest Connection (based in Chicago), Don
Gowler is the current president and is a regular here on the DeLorean Mailing List,
he travels a lot (he's here in Phoenix now) so give him a few days to get back to you.

IMO, your best bet would be to step back and take an objective look at the car,
then prioritize the items you think the car needs. Mechanicals, then cosmetics.
Also remember that you will get out of the car what you put in to it. If you nickel
and dime it, it will nickel and dime you! Some things came be done "on the cheap"
but many things are BEST done with the right parts. Remember the DeLroean was
compared against the 911, 928, and 308 among others when it was new. What do you
think they cost to maintain - trust me, its much more than the DeLorean.

Good luck!

Mike said, in reply to Doug:

>The compressor clutch is supposed to cycle during normal A/C operation. I haven't
run my A/C in many months due to winter so I don't remember the duration of these
cycles off the top of my head. I think fifteen-twenty seconds is about right, and
my air blows ice cold.

>Does yours cycle more frequently than that? Perhaps your compressor circuit is
fine, you just need a little more refrigerant.

I have tinkered with A/C systems somewhat - this is my understanding: Your compressor
has an "In" side - the low side, and an "out" side, the high side. The low side
(uncompressed freon) should read about 20-30 psi. The high side (compressed freon)
should read between 150 and 200 psi. There is a great varience between manufacturers
on these readings. The compressor should click on and off to maintain the high-side
pressure, and shouldn't stay on all the time. As long as the compressor turns on and
off automatically, your a/c system is at least working. If you can't find original
high and low-side psi readings, some experimenting may be the only answer to find
the optimum pressure for your system.

A side note: Our DMC's all use R-12 freon which is getting very difficult to purchase
nowadays. In frustration with this, and refusing to pay $50 per pound, and absolutely
refusing to replace the entire a/c system for ozone-friendly stuff, I've found an
alternative drop-in replacement for R-12 which is R-406a. I use this in all my original
R-12 systems. Its illegal for a service station to install this in an automobile (for
a profit), but
not illegal to take the A/C certification test (just $60 and a bit of studying),
buy the freon yourself, and put it in your OWN car. If anybody would like more info on
this, please let me know.

Doug,

Be sure that the cooling fans are running when the A/C Clutch is engaged.
I had the same problem with my car and realized that the previous owner had done
something stupid with the original fan circuit that bypassed the A/C.

There's a picture of Rob's car in DeLorean World 2 issues ago, Vol 13 #4 pg. 22.
I'm assuming this is it it's BRG and has the chrome rims someone else mentioned.
I have to agree it looks pretty sharp however if you're going to paint it I love
black. The first DeLorean I saw in person
pulled up next to me, it was painted black and had a spoiler on the back.
I think it was in Indiana somewhere around South Bend. Has anyone else run into
this one? It looked great.

I was approached by a man who was John & Christina DeLoreans Architect. He was
hired to finish their home in Bedminister New Jersey. He told me about some of
his business dealings with John DeLorean, etc, etc, and his privilege to drive
a Delorean as a company car. He wanted to sell me some 8x10 pictures of the
factory, car under engineering development at Lotus, with the designer, and the
car in various stages of production. He wanted $750.00 for the 40 photographs. I
almost purchased them
but when I asked him for the negatives he said that they were confiscated at the
DeLorean Estate in 1982.

I will be displaying the pictures in Belfast during the Euro Expo.

I put the correct amount of freon in the system(2.2 pounds) and my low and high side
pressures are good and the cooling fans are working. Like I said it blows ice cold
for about 5 min. before short cycling and blowing warm, like maybe the evaporator

I was just wondering if something particular on the Delorean had a tendecy to cause
a problem in the A/C system. =

From: WINGD2(AT)aol.com
Date: Tue, 1 Apr 1997 18:52:12 -0500 (EST) Subject: SS Brake Lines

I recieved an inquiry from someone on the mailing list asking for more
info on the SS brake lines we're having made for the Deloreans. After responding
to Eric via e-mail I thought this info might be of intrest to others on the list.

Eric,
Nice to hear from you. I assume from your e-mail address that your in Canada. Maybe
you know, if you decide on a set of brake lines and I ship them
to you in Canada do we/you get involved in any kind of duty or anything? The
$120 per set and $5 shipping are my cost in the USA. I'm not making any money
on this I'm just trying to help out others on the mailing list. Please let me
know if we need to do something.
Your question about the OEM lines was a good one. I never checked befor
because I had no interest in replacing the lines on my car with the same thing. I
was looking to improve the braking performance of the car. I did call Kapac today
just to check. The prices quoted were $42.83 for the front
and $18.88 for the rear per each. That makes a set of OEM (15 year old rubber)
brake lines cost $123.42 plus shipping. I guess that makes the SS braided lines
that much better a deal.
The company "Goodridge Co" in England has been in the hose business for
over 30 years. The guy I'm dealing with (Allen) is their senior engineer. I
had the oppertunity to spend a day with him in February at a trade show and
he definately knows his business. These brake lines have just passed the Europen
TUV and USA-DOT testing programs, the first and so far only SS braided brake lines
to do so. They are the first company to become OEM suppliers of SS braided brake
lines. They have current contracts with Buell
motorcycle and Mitsubishi motors as OEM suppliers. Ther also are the current
suppliers of brake lines and all the other hoses utilized in Europen Formula
1, European Pro Ralley, European Formula 1 motorcycle and just this year USA
NASCAR. Allen told me that last year they took all the hoses off a NASCAR auto and
installed their hoses. They then took all their hoses off and compaired weights.
Thier hoses saved 40 lbs, a big difference. They have just
opened a shop in North Carolina to handle this work. He showed me some Formula 1
fittings they make special for Ferrari out of titainium. A banjo fitting about the
size of a quarter was worth $1500. He said in F/1 money is
NO object. Anyway, as you can see they have an extensive auto backround.
The hoses they made for me are teflon lined stainless steel braided exterior with
a clear plastic coating bonded over the SS braid for abraison
protection. The ends are metric bulkhead fittings with the correct thread and
flair to fit the Delorean. The only difference with the stock D ends is the
stock bulkhead end that fits the frame bracket is a 15mm hex. The SS lines have a
14mm hex. This works fine because this hex is just a locater in the frame bracket
and has no line pressure. These lines are also made to the new
TUV-DOT specs. All the other lines I looked into required adaptors to try and
make them fit, and nobody really made the correct adaptor anyway. All these
other lines were also for "offroad use only".(NOT DOT approved).
Anyway that gives you a little more info on these lines and the company.
I am very happy with the new feel of the brakes on my D since installing these new
lines. The pedal feels much firmer than befor and thus the brakes
feel better. I've got more confidence in the braking system than I had befor.
As I said befor, I can't verify an improvement in brake performance, but it
feels better.
Thanks, Marty

I recently went to a GOOD locksmith (not a hardware store or K-mart) and he just

Like the rest of you, I have tried dozens of products on my DMC. Most work
quite well. The problem I have found with most (including the popular D1 product)
is that the cleaner leaves a film (petroleum based?) and that film, in turn,
tends to make fingerprints even more noticeable.

For years now I have simply used soap and water with one small addition. After
a quick dry off - not yet toatally dry - I spray a section at a time with windex
and then dry with a paper towel, not a cloth towel. No water spots and a very nice
genuine stainless steel shine. For a quick touch up I always carry a bottle of
windex and a roll of paper towels.

Got road tar? Use whatever you like and then redo the panel with the windex and
the paper towels.

Nothing is perfect - this approach doesn't do anything for the black plastic.

emergency. I didn't say anything about "service".

Some list subscribers who are not DOA members have asked me about the cars on
the latest DW cover. The numbers I can make out are:
860,996,1008,1063 and maybe 1038.

Typically this picture will have been enlarged and cropped, so the original photo
(from Robert Lamrock) probably showed even more cars. Most of the cars that are
shown face the wrong direction, hiding the VIN number. So maybe my car is in that
picture and I just can't tell . . .

The pictured cars have protective pads attached to their doors, fenders, and bumpers
in preparation for shipping. They do NOT have the ERM rear license plate frame, which
may not have been ready at the time the photo was taken.

A more thrilling Robert Lamrock picture appears on pages 18-19. It is an airiel view
of the DMC plant in 1981 (looks like summer) with no fewer than 173 brand new
DeLoreans in view. No chance of identifying any of these cars, though.

The text of the article only describes the coming DOA expedition to Ireland, making
me jealous. It doesn't say anything about the factory or DeLorean history. But these
two pictures by themselves are wonderful! They are my favorite part of being a DOA
member.

It is my understanding that the ERM license plate frames were added to the cars as
they entered the US at the Quality Assurance Centers (QACS) I bought a new license
plate frame while at KAPAC last October and they had BOXES of them, all with
"Composite Technologies Corporation" mailing label on them. CTC was the company
formed by JZD/DMC to develop the ERM process.
