The asking price of a DMC does not necessarily predict reliability. Mine has been
"for sale" for some time at a low price. It is quite reliable, in good condition,
and was my daily driver (can't afford insurance).

On one of the DMC FAQ pages I saw, there was a mention of a 'buyers things to
know/look at' type FAQ being created from the list... I was wondering if anybody
could point me to it..

I currently own a '92 NSX, and think that a Delorean would do a great job of
sharing my daily commute mileage with it...

Okay... okay.. okay.. I admit, one of the main attractions to a DeLorean for me
is the gull-wing-doors which to me are the coolest things I've ever seen! :-)

Jameel,
In California, there is a store called Brookstone, they have a key-light. I bought
one for my DMC door key. It cost about $5 and is well worth it to avoid scratching
the stainless around the key hole!
Also, good advice from one member here...don't do too much at once. I went wild
restoring my DMC and poured all my savings into it. Its
best to keep some investments "liquid" in case of illness or accident. A DMC is not
easy to sell, say tomorrow, and get 100% gold standard if you need emergency money.
(If you're rich then never mind this advice!)

Friends,
I went through two or three different Volvo key blanks with no luck. Perhaps
someone could post their blank #'s. (not even my local pro
locksmith could match them!)
My local Volvo dealer told me they won't see my DMC under any condition.
WIMPS!!!

I just remembered!!! A couple months back I drove by a warehouse, and did a
double-take. The sign on the wall said TRIMTECH, which is the company that made
the seats for DMC (if I'm not mistaken). Unfortunately, the people inside had
never heard of the company, and didn't even know the sign was on the wall (???).

P.S. - Is there someone who lives near Ventura that would like to get together in
a couple weeks and cruise DMC-style?

Most of the main parts of the DeLorean's air conditioner system actually are from
the A/C for a Corvette. You might check Corvette specialty shops, web sites and
mailing lists to see if there are any reports of similar problems in a comparable
age Corvette.

Jameel - If you haven't already, I would invest in a set of DeLorean manuals -
the shop manual and parts manual are the two most valuable. Keep these books with
the car at all times, I've found that it makes looking for service much easier
when you can show the mechanic some real documentation on the car.

I second James' advice about planning your restoration. Do some triage and figure
out the most important items to tackle first, make a list of the things you need
to do and stick with it.

Most import auto parts stores carry DeLorean parts, they just don't know it. For
things like engine parts, use the Volvo B28F engine as your reference point if
the catalogs you are searching don't explicitly list DeLorean.

Tom, I understand that sometimes it is necessary to sell something ( anything) for
compelling reasons .... the purchaser then lucks out and gets a good deal. In
general though the adage is that you get what you pay for. If a person wants a
good looking, good running D they are going to pay for it one way or another.
Those of us in the life insurance field always had a line for a reluctant
purchaser " someone is going to pay for your insurance, you, now by paying
premiums or your family later through deprivation "
No offense meant in my comment,

G'day folks,
A couple of months ago, my friends and I were discussing how great it would be if
a DeLorean was included in an upcoming sequel to the popular racing game "THE NEED
FOR SPEED". Well I just got an Email from one of my friends and he said that he had
found a site in which you could vote for one of the cars on the list that you'd like
to see included in NFS 2 and on
that list was, you guessed it, A DELOREAN!!! The bad thing is that DeLorean
only had 4 votes next to it out of 200, what's worse is no more votes are being
accepted (what a bummer, huh?).
If we had known about this website sooner, I'm sure we could've boostedthe DeLorean
vote by at least 300 or so? Well, If we don't find the DeLorean in the next NFS I
guess we'll just have to send its maker hate-mail or something, what do you think?

Speaking of seats, seat covers actually, I recently purchased a set of leather

Doug, I think you answered you own question, you have ice someplace. If you are
getting good air flow even if it is warm, the evap is not turning into a block of
ice, the problem is internal. If you didn't replace your accum/dryer, you are
probably getting ice in your expansion tube (it is a fixed orifice GM type). Since
it runs cold for five minutes, trash in the screens is not the problem. The
accum/dryer is a standard GM part though not as common as some, it took three days
to get one here in Dallas.

If your evap is turning into a block of ice due to high himidity, you can add
freon and bring your low side pressure up to about 30 to 32 psi which will give
an evap temp of 33 to 36, (above freezing) the temp/press reference is on the guages.

JZD did not actually "develop" ERM. JZD bought the rights to develop it and then
formed CTC.
ERM stands for elastic reservoir molding. It was originally intended that the
DeLorean be constructed from ERM and then be clad in stainless WITH NO FRAME
whatsoever. ERM was touted as stronger than steel and lighter than aluminum.
When Lotus took over development of the DeLorean, ERM was shelved as the
development time was too long to fit the production timetable. More info can be
found in the excellent book "Stainless Steel Illusion".

I understand that JZD/DMC sold/was forced to sell CTC when DMC closed.

Struts come in at least two pressures of each physical size. If you don't have
the right strut, adjusting the torsion bars will just cause you another problem.

Also, he may have gotten a "deal" on some original 15 year old struts. These still
turn up from time to time and they're worthless by virtue of their age at this
point. Are there any markings/labels on the struts?
