Adjusting the torsion bars is DEFIANTLY a two person job!!! There's more
involved than there is room for here. It involves a wooden cradle to rest the
long handle of a very large allen wrench, a lead pencil to mark the teeth
position on the torsion bar bracket ( don't scratch the bars as that could lead to
a fracture of the bar due to it's extreme hardness ), and some
very careful hands. If the bracket gets away from you it will spin into the
rear window and shatter it. I speak from experience. The new door struts
seem slightly stronger than the originals and with the coming of warm
weather, the gas in them will expand and produce even more lift. Don't mess
with the torsion bars until you've tried the new struts. My doors droop in
early spring because Minnesota is pretty cool then. I live with that because
I'd be adjusting torsion bars every two weeks until summer arrives and the
struts work better.

you are getting good air flow even if it is warm, the evap is not turning into a
block of ice, the problem is internal. If you didn't replace your accum/dryer,
you are probably getting ice in your expansion tube (it is a fixed orifice GM
type). Since it runs cold for five minutes, trash in the screens is not the
problem. The accum/dryer is a standard GM part though not as common as
some, it took three days to get one here in Dallas. =

>If your evap is turning into a block of ice due to high himidity, you can add
freon and bring your low side pressure up to about 30 to 32 psi which will
give an evap temp of 33 to 36, (above freezing) the temp/press reference is on
the guages.
>=

>Jim #6884
I fixed the A/C today. The low pessure cut off switch was cutting the
compressor off at 25psi. I turned the adjustment screw on the pressure switch
one half turn counterclockwise and now everything is ok. It won't kill the
compressor until a little under 20 psi and my A/C now blows ice cold all the
time. =

BTW- Does anyone know of a good glue to use on the rubber door seals.
Some people told me to use 3M emblem adhesive, but that doesn't seem to
hold very good?

Yes, the temperature has a definite effect upon the way the doors open. They
"fly" up on a hot day and are like molasses on a very cold day. Your torsion
bar adjustment should be for the happy medium in your area.

Subject: Door Struts

Jameel

DON'T TOUCH THOSE TORSION BARS!!! Well, not yet, anyway.

If the doors sag a little, it is because of the struts, not the torsion springs. The
door action is a two step overlapping process. The torsion spring starts the
motion of the door and applies a decreasing force as the door swings up. After
the door gets about 30% open, the gas struts begin to take over, applying more
of the force as the door rises. At the top, it's all (or should be all) gas strut.

Temperature does effect the struts. If you notice a very big difference with
temperature, you need new struts, not a spring adjustment.

Why don't you want to mess with the springs until you know it's not your
struts? Several reasons. The torsion spring is loaded at all times. If you aren't
VERY careful, the spring could get away from you and damage the top of the
door, the fibreglass structure on the top of the car, and the stainless T section
on the roof - very expensive to fix. If you adjust the spring to hold the doors
up with weak cylinders, you probably won't be able to get the doors closed
easily. Over time, the additional stress of the overcompressed spring will
eventually damage the support structure for the spring in the roof. Again, $$$
to fix. Overadjusted doors have a tendency to rise too fast, again putting
stresses on the mount points in the top of the car.

Try new struts first. If they don't improve the door action, you can always
return them.

functioning on my setup which works on Win 3.11 ! However, I can't say
anything about sound as I don't have a sound card on my machine. The
picture
comes up OK, the duration of the movie being about 9 seconds. However, it
seems to be a little fuzzy with pixels seeming like they're fighting for specific

the fact that I'm not using Win 95.

From: Mpeak(AT)aol.com
Date: Sun, 6 Apr 1997 16:08:39 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Brake Master Cylinders

Maybe somebody can help me figure something out. My car needs a new
brake master cylinder. When I started looking for one to buy, I first took the
casting number from the original master cylinder as a reference. I traced the
part and was quoted $293 from three different local Girling dealers.
Since I have heard that Girling doesn't make the original brake master
cylinder, I got a part number from Girling themselves. Again the price quote
was $293. I don't know if both of the cylinders ended up being the same part,
that depends on whether Girling gives out part numbers for parts they
don't produce any more. Looking through P.J. Grady advertisements, I
noticed
they sold brake master cylinders for $175. After talking with Rob, I learned
that the brake master cylinders they sell aren't the originals (which they don't
produce anymore). This one has slightly different valving but he has
found it to work better. So, I ordered one. When I received it, I took the
casting number off the side and traced the part number through the same
three
local shops, all quoting $293 and saying I'm wasting my time trying to beat a
$175 price on a Girling master cylinder, that all new Girling master cylinders
run from the middle $200's on up. My question is, how is Rob Grady
selling this part for so low and why is he selling it for so low?

The best answer that I have heard to this question is that each production
shift at the factory was assigned a particular range of VINs to produce. If, for
any reason, all the VIN's were not used, the numbers were skipped. Maybe
this May in Belfast someone will have a definitive answer for us.

Dear DML,
I did so much work on my car last weekend... Well.. All the brakes are done
except for rear parking brake pads, and rear brake pads. PLEASE! Does anyone
have cross refferenced numbers for these pads!!!! I have the numbers for the
fronts, but the rears are giving me trouble.

I need:
Emergency brake pad numbers.
Rear brake pad numbers.

I bleed the brakes with the old pads in... Just because I gave up.. I AM
TAKING IT BACK! I WILL NOT GIVE UP! I NEED THE NEW CROSS
NUMBERS!!!!

I also wanted to bleed my clutch and put new fluid in. But I just could not
find the clutch bleeder screw. I was under the engine. On top of the engine... I
just couldn't do it. I followe the braided clutch line to the metal line that
connects to the slave but I just couldn't find the screw!!! PLEASE HELP!

HOSES...

I have ordered the goodyear hose that connects from the water pump to the
aluminum pipe under the water bottle. It still hasn't arrived... Please... if
anybody has a number for this... I would appreciate it greatly.

The other hoses are wierd. The hoses that are like 3/8 or something I just
can't find... People are telling me to use fuel line... but I just don't think it
could take that type of heat... A perfect example of this hose is on the
passenger side... the hose that connects from the top radiator to the
aluminum line.... the aluminum line kinda splits... so the little hose connects
and the big hose connects to the bottom of the radiator... I need the little
skinny hose... Does anybody have a number on this????? Oh and the bearings
for the front wheels... I want to replace the front bearings... the bearing closes
to the spacer skirt are kinda falling apart... I want new ones... Does anybody
have numbers for this????? All these are very important to my car... I need
them bad... If you can help I will be most appreciative... Thanx Sincerely,

Has anyone experienced problems with their temperature guage?

I thought I had poor connections at the sensor, but wiggled them and nothing
happens. Besides, the cooling fans come on as usual. Sometimes the
needle will rise, but is nowhere near the actual temp.

Thanks to all...

I think the DeLorean has a separate temp sensor for the gauge. As I
understand it, the cooling fan sensor (located in engine compartment on
bottom of driver's side coolant line) is a simple thermocouple. It just goes
"on" and "off" as the engine temperature changes. The gauge sensor needs to
change resistance to give a gauge reading.

I don't know the location of the gauge sensor off the top of my head, but it is a
likely source for your trouble. If I were you I would check the factory parts
manual for a picture and location of the sensor.
