I removed the black air intake and put a few drops of gas down in the engine and it started up and ran for about 5 seconds, so it seems to be a fuel delivery problem, Any IDEAS ANYONE ? Sounds like a fuel system problem. Start with the easy stuff. Check fuses #'s 1 and 7. These are for the rpm relay and the fuel pump. How old is your fuel filter? Progress from there to the fuel pump. If you have a repair manual, find the rpm relay and by unplugging it and jumping terminals 87b and 30, the fuel pump will run without the engine running. If you establish that the pump does run the problem either lies in the tank itelf with the pick up hose, or you have a bad check valve in the pump or a weak accumulator. Remember the pump only runs for a few seconds during cranking and then automatically shuts down. Turning the key off and then repeating the cranking process several times is more productive than continuous cranking. You can remove the grey colored plug from the control pressure unit in on the left bank of the engine and plug it into the cold start valve ( the blue plug on the left bank of the engine ). This will trigger the cold start valve which is the only electric fuel injector on the engine. DON"T KEEP THIS PLUGGED IN BEYOND 15 SECONDS OF CRANKING AS YOU COULD FLOOD THE ENGINE. The mechanical fuel injectors that are used at each cylinder require about 5.5 bar of fuel pressure to open. A weak accumulator or bad check valve will allow the pressure to drop below that level and the injectors won't open. The electric cold start valve opens when ever it receives current. This is a good trick to remember if you are having hard starting when the engine is hot. (DeLorean suddenly quit) >I removed the black air intake and put a few drops of gas down in the engine and it started up and ran for about 5 seconds . . . This is probably a problem in the vicinity of the fuel pump/tank. First thing to check is make sure the pump is running. This is very easy to hear if you open the luggage compartment and remove the spare tire. If the pump isn't running, check the rollover switch and the electrical connections. If the pump is running, you *might* have a fuel inlet problem. Carefully remove the fuel pump and check to see if the inlet hose is collapsed, or if the inlet has wandered to the top of the tank. The latter happened to me once and symptoms were as you describe. You can detect this by filling the tank all the way up. If it runs, your inlet has broken loose and is wandering around. Another possibility is a clogged fuel filter. Usually a filter clogs gradually, but if you got some nasty stuff in your fuel it may have caused a spontaneous clog. The filter is under the car, sort of near the driver's side rear wheel.
