Subject: "Red" deloreans?
I've seen quite a few "RED" (among other colors) Deloreans around - these were
obviously painted after purchase, but why? Has anybody tried to remove paint
from the body? In otherwords, if I buy a painted one, could I restore the
stainless steel exterior? Seems a shame to cover a perfect stainless-steel body with paint . . .

The following are some places to get parts:
Specialty Automotive (Olympia, WA.)
DeLorean One (800) DMC-HELP
DeLorean Motor Center (714) 554-6794
P.J. Grady (516) 589-6224
Bauerle Auto (614) 595-3348
Swedish Auto Service (714) 972-1216
(800) 350-7429
KAPAC (614) 469-4100
My preferred source for parts is through Speciality Auto but I unfortunately do
not have their number handy. Darryl at Specialty Auto is very helpful, he is
cheaper than anyone else, and he can get parts that are sometimes difficult to
find. If you would like, I can look up his number and post a followup message
with Darryl's number. DeLorean One is fairly high priced but can also be
convenient and helpful. KAPAC is the final source for big-ticket car parts such
as body panels (KAPAC bought the DMC parts inventory when the plant was closed).
Availability of parts is usually not a problem, although some parts are a bit
expensive and occasionally you will run accross a part that is difficult to find
(like suspension bushings, see earlier post).
DeLorean World magazine is a a full color glossy magazine featuring informative
and technical articles on the DeLorean and related items. It is the official
publication of the DeLorean Owners Association and one subscribes to the
magazine by joining the club. The magazine is published quarterly and is often
very useful for its advertisements (DeLorean parts and service centers advertise
in it frequently and there are usually good items such as cars for sale in the
classifieds). In my view, the magazine and club membership is a must for a
DeLorean owner.

Knut mentioned all the "biggies" in the DeLorean parts business, and I want to
add my .02 about Swedish Auto Service. Tim (at SAS) has always been very
helpful to me when I had a question and has provided me with me parts in a fast
and efficient manner. He is knowledgable about the car, but isn't afraid to
admit it when he doesn't know something, though he has always found an answer
for me one way or another. He's also referred me to local sources for
parts when they are cheaper or quicker to get.
How's that for a plug?

Even if I wasn't the Chapter 43 coordinator for the DeLorean Owner's Association,
I'd recommend membership to anyone who owns a DeLorean. The
magazine, DeLorean World, is published quarterly and is a very professional
publication. Ten or twelve years worth of back issues are also available to
members from the association, and they make a nice reference library on their
own. If your friend would like to join or just wants more info about the
association, he/she should call John Truscott at (805) 964-5296. John can also
be reach via email at ca ourdlor@aol.com.

Subject: Sunshade struts
Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for sunshade strut help.
I sent back the incorrect ones I got from DeLorean 1 ($50 each), and picked
up some exact matches from my local NAPA auto parts for $21 each.
By the way, DeLorean 1 would not refund the shipping charges, even though
they sent struts that did not match the ones that my car had.
