The main reason many DeLoreans were not painted was because the stainless
steel finish resists the paint. Stainless steel produces a microscopic film
that resists rust. If you put paint right over that, it would flake off
eventualy. You must coat the car with a lot of primer first...- thus hiding
the beautiful metal finish.

This fix should NOT be attributed to me. The tail light modification came from
the Pacific Northwest Delorean Club (Arnie Brandon president).

I once bought some '81 reproduction door lock sets through either DeLorean Motor
Center or Swedish Automotive. '83 door lock sets are much harder to get and I
had to get used ones of those. Give the above places a call regarding the door
locks. As I recall, the prices were not outrageous. I'm not positive, but I
think the original door key would not fit the reproduction locks, but if you
only want some of the mounting hardware and can keep the tumblers, then you
should be OK.

Subject: Proper height of front end

It is well known that the front end of the DMC-12 was artificially raised in
order to meet US bumper and headlight standards. I will be replacing my
suspension bushings soon (see my previous post on hard-to-find suspension
bushings) which involves removing the springs. I figured this would be an ideal
opportunity to set the front end of the car back down to its originally designed
riding height. Does anyone know what the proper riding height of the DMC-12 is
and is this documented anywhere? How much do you have to cut off the coil
springs to get to this proper height?

This is a welcome idea. One simple question, though - Windows or Mac?

I can only assume that you are referring to the CD-ROM that I am compiling, which
is mentioned in the DeLorean Owners Handbook available for downloading at the
DeLorean Mailing List web page http://www.goodnet.com/users/mikasa/oldnews.

Ahh, but that is the beauty of Adobe Acrobat files, they are completely cross
platform compatible between Macs, Windows, DOS and UNIX. Certain portions of the
CD, such as Quicktime movies, may not be available to the DOS and UNIX users,
but all of the documents will be viewable and printable on 90% of the machines
out there. Some of the magazine publishers are requesting that their articles be
viewable, but not printable. As of right now, the DOS and UNIX Acrobat Readers
can not even view a file that has been print-disabled. The next versions that
will allow that are due out RSN.

You know, the ones under the stereo that stay on whether your headlights are on
or off? I'd like to know a way top make them come on ONLY when either the parking
and/or headlights are on. Anyone?
