The old way of measuring toe-in was to measure the distance between the
front of the tires and the distance between the back of the tires and
compare the two measurments. Now it is done with lights and mirrors.=20
You can make a rough measurment with a level and a tape and mark and
measure your garage floor. If you drop a vertical from the front and
back of each tire to the garage floor, (use the same tread groove) and
mark the floor, you can compare the measurements between the front and
back of each wheel
Enlcosed is a service bulletin to cover allignment. There was a later
one, #ST-34-1-82 but somehow I ended up with only one page of that and
it is the same as page three of this one.
As you can see from the specs, your front wheels should be toed-in 3mm
or 0.12in-- about 1/8 inch for each front wheel which will give you a
distance of almost a half inch less in the front than in the back. =20

When my DeLorean was new, my Father and I had it to 140 MPH. We had to
use the tachometer to determine the speed. We were on I-5 going from
S.F. to Portland. The car handled well, but was underpowered. Any
grade would slow the vehicle down.

Hi Jim and all,
When I took delivery of my 81 stock DMC-12 #5729 it had the
original tires, I replaced them with Goodyear tires of the correct size
and
type. They work great. I have had no problems what ever.
comment: I know that the DMC in stock set up is not a competition
machine, but I can say that on a weekend "drive" I as able to shame
a vett and 911 in a hill climb on Mt St. Helena "in Calif" with out
a bit of trouble. Both other drivers were just moving sunday road hazards
so I would say it was an even skill match at the start. My DMC-12
never demonstrated any thing but what was expected. Handeled very well
with plenty of power in the curves, as long as the RPM were kept high.
Hope this helped you some

For all interested,
A few days ago I put up a post about a movie featuring a red
Delorean will be on Cinemax and Cinemax2 next month. Here is more info
on it (as shown in my TV Guide):
Malibu Express (1985) * Darby Hinton,
Sybil Danning. An Amateur Texas gum-
shoe, hired by the government, pursues
computer spies and California beauties.
R(Nudity, Strong Sexual Content,
Adult Language) [1hr41min] CC
My review of the film:
This film is the usual corny adult
themes movie from the 80's. Yet, the girls look good and the Delorean
looks even better. Although I prefer the original stainless steel this
one is a red painted Delorean.
Times it will be airing:
Cinemax: Aug 5 @ 1:20am/est.
Cinemax 2: Aug 14 @ 10:45pm/est.
Aug 24 @ 2:15am/est.
Aug 30 @ 12:30am/est
I am not sure if this movie will be airing beyond august, but I
figure that you can watch it on the fifth of august and if you like it
enough you still have many chances to tape it.
Very Truly Yours,
Misha Weitzner
P.S. I am 99% sure this is the same
movie that I saw 6 months ago, but if I am wrong, and it ends up being
something else please forgive me.

AS mentioned here befor I have an 81-DMC-12 VIN 5729 100% stock and
driven
daily to and from work. It has 24,124.00 original miles and is maintained
in a "former" Delorean official service auto repair shop. The car was
clocked by CHP on I 5 at an official 141.945. with me two people.
note I did not get a ticket!

Sure. There are clothes on the web at the DOA website:
http://www.delorean-owners.org/index.html
Currently the DOA site is under rennovation, but you can still
see a list of DeLorean-related goodies if you click on "View
Catalog." The DOA has sold me a couple of my favorite
T-shirts, and they recently came out with some new ones
that are quite colorful. Check out the Internet Special while
you are there.
DMC Houston also has some great stuff, but it is not on the
Web at this time. IMHO their grey banlon shirt is very sharp.
List moderator James Espey can also attest to their fine
DMC undergarments (boxers) that were so chic at Nashville
last year . . .
I think there are others from DeLorean One, PJ Grady, etc,
but I can't remember exactly off the top of my head. DMC
Houston's phone number is:

That's funny that you should ask that. When I was shopping for D's a few
years back, the first car I test drove had the steering wheel low, and I
was not comfortable. I pulled to the side, and reached under the steering
column, loosened the clamp, and lifted the wheel!! The owner of the car
looked at me and said "Wow! I have had the car for 4 years and never knew
I
could do that! No wonder I was so uncomfortable!"
I ended up buying a different car, and mine also has a tilt wheel. I
assumed all did!

Subject: DML: Another DOA editorial
When I saw the "My Hassle with the DOA" message appear
on the DML, I was certain that my E-mail box would
immediately fill up with comments from other subscribers all
over. To my surprise there has been not one single reply!
The message was worded as an editorial, and since
everyone is entitled to an opinion I do not expect anyone to
argue with it.
My own personal opinion is that the DOA is a fun
organization that serves a purpose. The annual DOA Expo
has long been the definitive DeLorean social event of the
year, and DeLorean World is the most popular DeLorean
publication there is. The DOA also provides the best
communication link between DeLorean parts vendors / car
retailers and the general public in the world today.
James' editorial does make some points that I hope the DOA
Board will consider. For example, I would certainly find a
membership manual useful, and I miss the old regional
chapter system already.
As an Industrial Engineer I view these issues from a TQM
(Total Quality Management) point of view . Like any other
business, if the DOA wants to increase its market share it
needs to listen to the voice of its customers and potential
customers, then be prepared to constantly change to please
them. Some customers will always want the impossible,
and the business must find an equilibrium point. There is
nothing unusual about this, successful businesses do it
every day.
The DOA really pleased me recently when they enclosed a
survey in DeLorean World which asked about members'
desires for a "Run What You Brung" event. This is a good
way for the DOA to obtain the voice of its customers. If they
conduct periodic surveys about other issues (and act on the
data), I guarantee the DOA will increase its market share. (If
Ray Haug is reading this: consider putting membership
surveys on the DOA website. Surveys which require postage
for return mail get notoriously small responses).
Still, the DOA is the DOA, and the organization I joined is
the organization I have. As long as they hold a high-quality
Expo and publish a magazine with beautiful DeLorean
pictures, I will gladly maintain my membership.

Subject: DML: Auto DMC12 for sale spotted in Austria !
Hello DML'ers,
Last week I was driving an old Volvo from Northern Italy to Berlin and
whilst in Austria I noticed a Delorean in a second hand dealer's parking
lot. It was for sale at 450.000 Austrian Shillings (about 34500 US$) which
seemes quite expensive considering it is far from being in concours
condition.
Sticker says it's an 81 model. It has an automatic gearbox and 22000 miles
recorded on the clock. I believe this could be true milage since it's
sitting on what seem to be the original Good Year tires with quite good
thread still available. Also I noticed that it had gone through some minor
accident at the front since the fascia was bent in and upwards at the
centre. The interior (black) was not in great a shape either, with
sun-cracked leather all over. The tachometer was stuck (ignition off) at
the
6000 RPM mark.
I was so excited that I was looking at a Delorean (they're a real rarity
on
European roads) that I forgot to do essential things like taking down the
number of the dealer or the VIN from the windscreen (sorry James).
However,
I really don't think that this car could have been a bargain. If anyone is
near Austria and would like to take the opportunity to see this Delorean
they can contact me and I can provide instructions on finding it. I
suspect
it has been and will be at this location for a while, considering its
price
and condition.
