Sounds like a good (the new door unit) idea as long as it isn't
hooked
up to the same circuit as the door and dome lights since I have a
short in mine. Any ideas on how to find it? I'm sick of blowing
fuses and it sucks not having them work. -Donovan

Must be nice not having the horror of bad accumulators, cold start
injectors, thermal time switches, breakers, relays, etc. and having
time to worry about such silly things ! :-) ha ha ha. !!

I suppose that if I was about to try this, I would probably try
recording the sound on a chip. something like one
of those little pocket size memo things. A small
amplifier and speaker should work nicely. I think
that making a sound thats relivant to the possition
of the door would be much too difficult. Actually,
there are a few times in the movies where the sound
doesn't match the door exactly. BUT ANYWAY
there is my 2 cents worth. Have fun.

I have never removed theese panels, but I was told by Rob Grady that the
proper way to remove them without dammage is to heat up the panel with a
heat gun. It did not sound all that complicated, but there was a big risk
of damage to the panel itself.

I opted to not remove the panel. When(if) i get around to replacing the
stereo system, I am going to just not use those locations. 4X10 speakers
sound like crap anyway!

If you could find a physical noise-maker to attach directly to your
door, you could avoid the complexities of electrical power and
triggering, and the sound would be subtly more realistic because it
would in fact be directly in-sync with the movement of the door, as
opposed to simply a recording that plays when the door hits a certain
position.

Not sure what you could use for a noise-maker, though. One of those
flywheel-driven toy cars comes to mind...

Looks pretty good. Very little content for the delorean owner/enthusiast,

job of it.

I feel bad for the "Advertisers". I hope they did not pay too much for

I had a coupon for a free "Works Package" at one of the local carwash
chains here in the Valley of the Sun, so I decided to take my "D" there.
They oil the leather, scrub the windows, dress the tires, etc, so I
thought
it was a good idea. I was a little concerned about the antenna in the
automatic washer, but it went through ok. The real problem occurred when
they where washing the rear window. Those wise guys were messing with the
louvre and cracked it completely through! About midway up, on the far
left
side, where the strut lifts the louvre. Not only does it look bad, but it
twists when you open or close it.
I was wondering if it can be repaired, it looks like it's made of
fiberglass, or if I need a new one. It was in near-perfect condition, so
I
would rather not replace it. Anyone have experience with this? Also, how
long does it take to remove the louvre?

Although I am only about 100 pages into the book "Dream Maker," I am
noticing
a great deal of cynicism. So far this book has gone directly against most
everything I have learned about John DeLorean. I am not sure if the
claims
the author is making towards John DeLorean are justified or if this author
has some vendetta against him. The authors are both British and maybe
they
could be upset due to the amount of money Britain lost on the DMC
project, or
then again they could just be out to set the record staright. So far they
have portrayed the JZD legend to be nothing more than a giant conspiracy
and
JZD himself to be nothing more than a con-man.

Am I reading an objective book (which I thought I would be doing) or am I
reading a smear campaign?

After pricing rebuilt DeLorean engines and transmissions, I've decided to
ask $4,000 OBO for the pair. The transmission is a automatic. This will
also include all the electrical components as well as the wiring harness.
The engine has 98k on it. The ONLY reason I'm switching out the engine
(with a tuned port 350 'Vette engine) is because I want A LOT of power.
I
am also thinking of taking on other DeLorean engine swaps as well if
anyone

everything is VERY smooth.

Having recently gone through the slow rising temperature problem with my
DeLorean, maybe relating what I found will help anyone else with a similar
problem.

On a the drive to the DOA Las Vegas Expo in 1995 I noticed the engine
temps
beginning to run hotter than normal in my car. During the following two
years the problem worsened to the point I had to refrain from using the
air
conditioning at various times, even at highway speeds. Having made a trip
to
Detroit and the Wisconsin Sports Car Rally with my friend, Dick Ryan,
early
this summer, I discovered that the 'new' DeLorean he just picked up from
Rob
Grady had a triple core, metal tanked, radiator. His temp rarely crossed
the
first mark on the gauge, even while navigating the Chicago rush hour in 95
degree temperatures. The dicision was made to order a similar radiator
from
Rob and I began to remove my old one. I discovered that the spaces between
the fins on the AC evaporator are quite large while the stock radiator
has a
very tight spacing between it's fins. The result is, after 15 years of
driving, enough road dirt had gone through the evaporator and become
lodged
in the radiator to produce a blockage of about 20%. This is impossible to
see with out removing the whole radiator assembly. As soon as I installed
the 3 core radiator the engine temps dropped to the same level that Dick
was
seeing. Before Marty Maier jumps in here I should admit I had some cooling
fan problems that Marty picked out while we were touring the Colorado
mountains. To make this whole story come to an ending; all my concerns
about
warped heads and leaky head gaskets were of no consequence. I simply had a
blocked radiator.

DMC Houston is (800) USA-DMC1

There's a good place for car covers which is coincidentally also in
Chatsworth, CA. I believe their name is California Car covers or
California Custom Car Covers - prices are good and quality/fit is great!

Though I haven't spoken to any of the D1 folks in a while, Ed alluded
some time ago that he has just been too busy to "wrap up" the new edition
of the catalog. Instead of reprinting the old one, they're copying the
old one. Perhaps when his term as president of the DOA is up later next
month he will have more time.

I think it should be possible for a good fiberglass shop to repair your
louver to good-as-new, but I am not certain. I do know that it is very
easy to remove the louver. It takes minimal tools, minimal skill, and
less
than fifteen minutes.

Pop it off and show it to your neighborhood fiberglass shop. They can
probably tell immediately if it is repairable.

Subject: DML: My thoughts on "Dream Maker"

(The following is simply my personal perspective)

You should realize that Fallon and Srodes, authors of "Dream Maker," are
conservative columnists in England. In the late 70s DeLorean was
brought into Ireland by their arch enemy, the liberal Labor Party.

Having Fallon and Srodes write a book about DMC is like having Rush
Limbaugh and G. Gordon Liddey write a book about the Welfare. You
automatically expect every single sentence to be slanted against the
subject!

There are a few blatant factual errors in the book, but also some
interesting details that make it worth reading. Most of all, "Dream
Maker"
gives a historical perspective you cannot get form other books. I never
really understood why DMC failed until I read "Dream Maker."

Since I read "Dream Maker" this has happened to me twice:

I meet a 60-something gentleman from England and I mention that I own a
DeLorean. Suddenly he gets very angry! He virtually spouts chapter
and verse from "Dream Maker," attacking JZD as a labor-loving, drug
dealing, liberal con man. He goes on and on about what a waste DMC
was of British tax money. He gives a long speech about the evils of
cash handouts to rich Americans and lazy Irishmen.

Does "Dream Maker" tell the real truth about the DMC saga? No. But in
my opinion it *does* give a great insight on the mood of millions of
British
conservatives who hated John DeLorean and wanted his project
destroyed at any cost.

I drove my DeLorean a good portion of the summer without my louvre, I
think it contributed to higher than normal engine temperatures, and
certainly hurt the appearance of the car, IMO.

I think that the book "Hard Driving" by William Haddad offers a pretty
good insight in to the inner workings of DMC. Haddad was supposedly also
a close acquaintance of JZD prior to DMC, and he offers some looks into
JZD's life before DMC.

I know we have at least one former DMC staffer on the list, and I have
often asked them to share some stories or anecdotes about their days at
DMC, even anonymously if they wished. Like many former DMC employees,
it's not a pleasant memory and I imagine that's why this person has kept

Ace,

Have I got a deal for you!

I had the same exact problem except mine was busted by a gas jock.

        1. Can it be repaired?...You bet and it's not hard at all.

        2. I repaired mine and it looks like new and is stronger than the
original.
        3. I took pictures of the whole process, maybe I can talk James
into
arch'ing em for the list? and you can down load them for your use.

A warning...take your louvre off now before any grease, oil or
dirt
get in to the break. the fix is an afternoon, just hand tools and some
elbow
grease.

On the new DOA web site there is a photo of a D with ground effects,
A rear spoiler, and headlight covers. Is this stuff available
     somewhere? Costs?

I have rebuilt my louver twice, and yes it is fiberglass, mine was
cracked on
both sides and also the middle rib was cracked.I got a stifner set from
the
Bauerle co, they advertise in delorean world.I expoxy bonded them to the
center rib and also bolted them.I then made some thin strips to run down
the
sides ,also expoxy, and bolts nicely countersunk, then
bondo,filing,sanding,and
paint. Also I rebuilt a major part of it after some fire damage
,fiberglass
mat, resin, and a lot of sanding and you cannot tell it was ever damaged.

Bauerle Automotive Inc. (I think it's pronouncer bow-ur-lee) may be
reached at:

(614) 595-3348

I was just about to call them myself, but I will probably wait until next
week. I want to talk to Dave Bauerle himself, and he is probably in
Snowmass now.

I ran with a rear spoiler on my first D for years. It was off a late 70's
- - early 80's Pontiac (or other GM car). It fit very well and looked good.
Only problem was it made the louvers too heavy for the struts.

I also had headlight covers from John Truscott - he offered them in clear
and tinted. Terri Jennings also has headlight covers. Search recent
issue
of DeLorean World for an ad from Terri Jennings.

I think most if not all of the ground effects units were owner made with
the possible exception of those offered by Fred Lockett - again, search
old
DeLorean World mags - he hasn't advertised for some time.
