First thing I would check is to make sure that the areas listed on the
factory service bulletin that pertains to water leaks have been filled
with silicone. There were quite a few if I remember correctly. If you
don't have a copy of this service bulletin, let me know and I may be able
to arrange to get you one.

The parts stores here in AZ don't have the DeLorean in their computers
anymore either, but they are still listed in the parts book on the
counter. This is what I used when I did my brakes -
Front pads - Lucas Girling 67320291
Rear Pads - Lucas Girling 63426119
If your local parts house doesn't carry Lucas, they should be able to
cross-reference it. If you're still not having any luck, I have received
fair prices and good service from Tim at Swedish AutoService in Los
Angeles at (800) 350-7429. He can help you out with the rotors, too. I
think they're on special now as part of their Xmas sale.

Is a Delco heater fan motor original equipment, and if it is, is the whole
heating/cooling "box" out of a 198? GM something or other?

Re:leaks which flood the floors in the rain or car wash.
You should get a copy of the DMC information regarding leaky cars. It
discusses possible water leak locations and sealing options.
On another DeLorean I noticed that there were gaps between the door seal and
the metal. You can easily find this with a one dollar test. Take a one
dollar bill (use a $20 bill if you are a high roller) and, with a friend,
place the bill between the gasket and the metal with the door closed. Now
move it around the seal. If will meet resistance of the seal is tight and
will be very looses where the seal does not meet. Where the seal is loose.
I inserted some cord under the rubber seal to make the seal stand up a
little and seal the door. Do not over "help" the seal since the best seals
no not have excessive pressure between the seal and the metal. This
eliminated my water leak, reduced wind noise and was unnoticeable unless you
pulled back the seal a little. Another option, replace the door seal. See
previous message about a Chrysler equiv.

If I understand your letter, your car starts out in something
other then 1st gear. My 1981 automatic did the same thing, and it turned
out the problem was indeed the "Computer/Governor" assembly. However, since
it costs so much, I tried to prove it first before replacing. You may want
to try the experiment I performed.
The connector of the assembly is accessable in the engine compartment
against the firewall on the left side. After removing a circular cover (not
disconnecting anything electrically), there should be three long hexagonal
pegs (actually screws) visible. The three wires connected to these pegs go
to the two solonoids in the transmission that control the gear selection
in Drive. The middle one is a common, the outer two each go to the other end
of the solonoids. While the engine is on, have somebody put the car into
Drive and hold on the break. The voltage between each outer peg and the
common inner peg should be around 12 volts, with the common at the high
potential. That is, both of the outer pegs should be at ground potential.
If they are not, it is very likely that the assembly is causing the car to
start off in something other then 1st gear (i.e., the problem is not in the
transmission). Use one of those LED testers to check if the two solonoids
are getting power.
I suspect the solonoid drivers in the "Computer/Governor" assembly were
poorly designed and not properly protected against the voltage kick that
usually accompanies switching on and off solonoids. However, I have not
verified this. I just replaced the whole unit (cost close to $500 from
Delorean One) and the problem went away. It took me about a day to
replace the assembly.

I was wondering if you could clue me in as to the best spark plugs to
use and as to what types of engine and gear oil are best. Also, are there
any struts for the doors and engine bay cover that can be purchased outside
of a mail-order company? BTW, the slave cylinder was fine and the clutch
works fine after they bleed the system. Who knew? :) Another question I
thought I would toss your way concerns the power windows. On the passenger
side, there is nothing at all going on, but on the driver's side the motor is
running with nothing happening. Any ideas as to what to check before I rip
the door panels off and make a mess?
