I'm having the same problem...and it IS a common problem...
My particular problem is a wiring fault causing intermittent
operation, or DID cause intermittent operation...as the driverside window
doesn't work at all now...
Slow degridation...use to be you needed to make sure you didn't
lower it completely...if you did...you had to shut the door while pressing
the button to raise it again...then it went down one day...and I must have
driven around a few miles before the window finally went up...hasn't worked
since...
Previous owner replaced the switch (your first check point, I'd
suggest....just pull up on the switch and see if it's plugged in and in
good shape) He also changed the window motor (Your second obvious
checkpoint as it's another problem place, THE common break point for the
windows, I'm told "because the arm is made of plastic" If you hear the
window motor, that's probably your problem) about the last place I'd check,
and I'm sure you can understand why, is also a common problem point, the
harness through the door, especially around the t-top area...
I'm going to wait for summer when I can pull it out into the sun
and disect my baby....SIGH....Oh well...has to be done...
I wish you better luck then I.

As a new owner of a 81'DMC-12, I was surprised to find so much info. on the
"net". I wish to thank "all" who subscribe to the message board for all
pertinate info. My check list on the car just keep growing. I do hope to have
it on the road soon. Two questions, (1) The inner door seals have been id to a
Chrysler Mini-van. How about the outer door seals.. Has anyone found an after
market source? (2) I need a spare key.. What blank matches the DMC.?

It seems that when John DeLorean talked about "sending money" he wasn't
joking. Check out the December 25, 1995 issue of FORTUNE magazine, page 48.
It sounds like he is facing foreclosure on his 434-acre estate. It is an
interesting article, especially when you look at who his neighbors are, such
as Nicholas Brady, Steve Forbes,Robert Wood Johnson IV, to name a few. Maybe

John is ready to come to our next Expo, for the right fee?

DOOR SEAL

I noticed reference to a Chrysler replacement for the door seal. What was
the date of the issue that included the applicable part number, description?
I missed it.

BRAKE PADS

DeLorean World Volume 8, Number 2 (Spring 1991, page 31) has an article on
replacement of brake pads entitled "STOP, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!" that is an
excellent basic primer (I wrote it). The article identified four suppliers
(at that time) of replacement pads as follows:

SUPPLIER FRONT PADS REAR PADS PARKING

DeLorean Part No. 109005 109012 109037

Repco Deluxe D174D D97D D175

(standard)

BAP/Geon Deluxe 17-20174D 17-20097D 17-20175

(standard)

Girling 67320291-PO 64326110-PO 133-04-01

ARTICLE ON PANEL DIES

DeLorean World Volume 8, Number 4 (page 35) carried the reprint of an
article that came from an Irish Times report in June 12, 1985 that describes
the discovery of the stainless steel presses used to stamp out the bodies of
the DeLorean. Very interesting details of the find and the fisheries that
are using them to anchor huge salmon traps off Kilkerrin, County Galway.

The same issue also features an article by Robert Lamrock, entitled the
"Longest Decade" which has a number of interesting stories about John
DeLorean, the early years, and the years since. Includes photos of the firts
television interview of John DeLorean and the "DeLorean" automobile.

My car seems to be getting about 14 miles to the gallon around the city.
and around 25 on the freeway. This seems to be a pretty big jump.
Does anyone know what the mileage is supposed to be? I hope this
doesn't signal some engine problem, I just got the car out of the
shop. Thanks.
