The DeLorean ignition key is a stock Volvo blank-- there are even
some blanks around stamped from stainless steel, (seems appropriate)
but you have to get those from a Volvo dealer, and not all of them...
The early door key is from some French truck, according to a friend
of mine who finally found some. The blank is HUGE..

I noted that the door seals were same as those on a Chrysler mini-van
in an article in Delorean World a few years back. Heard the other day
(here) that the seals aren't identical-- the weep holes (or whatever
they are) are on the reverse side, but the shape is the same. As to
the other door seals, doubt there are crosses, since some
appear to be a custom mold, rather than extruded...

Anyone reproducing the rubber baby buggy bumpers that protect the car
from door dings?-- mine are sun-baked and deteriorating fast...

RE: POWER WNDOW MOTORS....A FREIND TAUGHT ME THE NIFTIEST TEST FOR WINDOW
MOTOR... REMOVE THE FRONT MARKER LIGHT IN THE DOOR BY CAREFULLY PRYING IT OUT
WITH A SMALL SCREDRIVER.. DON'T DISCONNECT IT, JUST LET IT HANG.

THEN, TAKE A PIECE OF WOOD ABOUT 18" LONG THAT CAN FIT IN THE MARKER HOLE AND
PLACE THE END OF IT ON THE MOTOR HOUSING OR THEREABOUTS AND POUND ON IT A FEW
TIMES WITH A HAMMER. (REMEMBER, THESE CARS WEE BIULT IN THE BRITISH ISLES
WHERE THE HAMMER IS A HIGH TECH TOOL). IF YOU HTINK THE MOTOR IS HUMMING,
THIS WILL LIKELY FIX THE PROBLEM...IT DIDI FOR ME. YOU SEE, WATER SEEPS INTI
THE DOOR AND RESTS ON THE WORM GEAR. IF YOU DON'T USE THE WINDOWS OFTEN AND
PARK THE CAR WITH THEM CLOSED, RUST BUILDS UP AND IT GETS STUCK.

I HAD TWO MECHANOCS TELL ME I NEEDED A NEW MOTOR..THEY SWORE THERE WAS NO
JUICE TO THE MOTOR...SAVED ME ABOUT $200. TRY IT!

Well, I had an interesting surprise in this department when I
went to get a key made for my '68 Mercedes. The locksmith had to send
someone across town to get a blank for me, and during the interim we
talked about my passion for DeLoreans ... he surprised me quite a bit by
popping a couple of blanks off the shelf. I assume this was partly
because of the fact that Ocala has a few D's, but according to "The
Book", there are two different blanks, one for the '81 and one for 82's
and 83's ... though I am suspicious that the two blanks actually may be
to luggage compartment, etc. and ignition of any year D's, not different
ignition keys. According to "The Book", again, these keys also are
D-specific, and upon comparison with the Volvo and Renault blanks I saw,
this appears to be consistent with reality... anyone else have ideas?
P.S. - Never did get my Mercedes blank...the same locksmith that stocks a
D-specific key said the '68 M-B was "just too uncommon these days to keep
it in stock"... yeah, right...

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHERE THE OIL DRIPS LIKELY COME FROM THAT APPEAR TO BE
FROM THE OIL SUMP? I DON'T WANT TO TAKE IT OFF ONLY TO FIND OUT IT
SOMETHING ELSE.

ALSO, WHAT'S THE LIKELY CAUSE OF A TACH JERKING WHEN ACCELERATING? IT'S
STEADY WHEN JUST CRUISING, BUT JITTERS ABOUT A 500 RPMS OR SO WHEN I STEP ON
IT. THEN IT STEADIES AGAIN.

LASTLY ANY SUGGESTIONS ON THE FRONT INTERIOR LIGHT...IT DOESN'T LIGHT WHEN I
OPEN THE DOOR, BUT IF I TURN IT ON MANUALY AND THEN TURN IT TO THE DOOR
SETTING, IT COMES ON AND THE DELAY WORKS...RELAY OR LIGHT?

THANKS, AND I REALLY ENJOY THE MAILING LIST.

BY THE WAY, I LIVE ABOUT 10 MI. FROM JZD. ONCE IN A WHILE I SEE HIM IN
TOWN. KIND OF A REGULAR LOOKING GUY, BUT WITH A CELEBRITY AIR ABOUT HIM.
NOT OVERLY FRIENDLY , EVEN WHEN HE SEES THE DELOREAN OUTSIDE. I'VE NEVER
SEEN HIM DRIVE ONE. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF HE OWNS ONE?

In the December Du Pont Registry, they have a gold Delorean advertised. The
caption says that there were only two ever made. Where is the other one
located??? The one in the magazine is located in Texas.

I would appreciate learning of any Delorean auto repair shops on the east
coast, specifically in the Washington D.C. area.

The key blank is a Volvo. My Volvo key has the lettering "VO 29" in a circle
on it that I assume identifies the specific Volvo key blank. Original DMC key
blanks are next to impossible to get.

What's the deal with DeLorean One? I called to get a catalog to buy myself
something for Christmas (I heard that have a great pewter model) but they said I
couldn't get a catalog because I don't own a DeLorean yet. That sucks! I
realize that catalogs cost money to produce but I doubt someone would ever buy a
catalog with no intention of buying anything. Is Ed Bernstein on this mailing
list? If not could someone ask him to send me a catalog? My address is 8009
Russell Rd. Alexandria, VA 22309. Thanks

The official DeLorean Motor Company Service bulletin regarding water
leaks is available for downloading from the DeLorean Mailing List home page at:

http://www.dmcnews.com

This file is in the Adobe Acrobat format, so you will need an Acrobat
Reader to view and print this file. Readers are available from ALL the
online services as well as the Adobe Home page at: http://www.adobe.com

Many people have inquired as to the status of my DeLorean CD-ROM project.
First, let me say that I am thankful to those of you that have taken the
time and put forth the effort to register the owners handbook that I
recreated in the Acrobat format. The CD-ROM, which contains the factory
service and parts manuals, ALL the service bulletins, numerous items of
factory sales literature, QuickTime video, magazine reprints,
advertisements and book excerpts is a month or so away from completion.

My goal through all of this has been to compile as much DeLorean related
information as possible into one source, thereforem, as I learn of new
items, I have been trying to add them as well. I intend for this to be a
"one-shot" deal - no future upgrades, no Volume Two, just the most
complete source of DeLorean-related information.

More information about the CD-ROM and it's contents can be found later today at:

http://www.goodnet.com/~mikasa/cdrom.html

Thanks!
