Here is my problem... the defrost only works occasionally. For example, I'll hit the switch but the indicator light on the panel does not come on, but if I leave the switch on long enough eventually the indicator light will come on. However I can turn it off and it might not come back on. I had the switch rebuilt by DMC1, but I still have the same problem. Any advice on how to solve this? David A. I have saved every letter and often go back to search for something I thouht I read in the past. I believe the information in this newsletter could make the ULTIMATE DeLorean repair manual, especially if it was organized in some type of trouble shooting format. Any entrepreneurs out there? I am sure this would be a valuable manual. I'd like to hear what others out there think about this idea. David A. [water pump replacement, bodywork, interior] After 6 months os shopping/research (while reading this list and other online resources as well as test dirving several vehicles)... this last week I took possesson of my newest folly, a non-running late 1981 DeLorean. Technically I now own 2 British vehicles, as the DeLorean joins my 1973 land rover. The car has been sitting for approximately a year (though the actual length is unverified) It appears to need: new waterpump new tires new battery driver door does not open from the outside (seems to be the handle itself) a bunch of interior work (it has cracked seats, instrument cover, etc) one lower body panel is *slightly* bent, but uncreased, etc. Today I received the tech manual et al from Delorean Moter Center. I am going to start my beast's revival with the waterpump (actualy, first I am going to throw in the new battery, a new fuel filter and some high octane fuel, pull and inspect the plugs, pour some mousemilk [aircraft oil/solvent] down the plugways, install new plugs, push the vehicle by hand while in gear to free the pistons and then try to start it with the new battery... then delve into the waterpump...). Assuming I have to replace the waterpump, can anyone offer any tips, and also suggest other work that would be advisable when I get down to the pump itself (which looks kinda buried in the engine). I remember someone mentioning that replacing a bunch of hoses which were generally hard to access was a good idea... though my engine was supposedly rebuilt not long before its untimely demise. In general, what's the best way to reference the engine when I speak to parts houses (I am still a bit confused about the details of its Volvo/Renault/Peugot lineage ;) I read the FAQ, but was hoping for a buzzword to get the right part with ease) Here is the list of parts supliers I have for DMC-specific parts. Is this fairly complete? DeLorean One (800) DMC-HELP DeLorean Motor Company (800) USA-DMC1 P.J. Grady (516) 589-6224 DeLorean Motor Center (714) 554-6794 Campbell's Auto Sport (414) 242-6696 Swedish Autoservice (800) 350-7429 Has anyone written a quick summary of their weaknesses and strengths? If not, perhaps a veteran be willing to offer (or collate) collected wisdom and experiences. Such an assessment might include the size of the operation, the scope of their stock, their typical pricepoint, anecdotal service information, special items or emphasis, whether they do repair work, do they only cater to DeLoreans, do they carry used as well as new parts, do they have a catalog, etc. One particular question I have is where to go when I want to get that body panel back in true (I live in Northern CA). Who's the best, and who's good enough within a reasonable drive (if they are not the same). Also, I will be shopping around for some interior parts. Well, I'll reign in my verbosity. Thanks in advance for any and all assistance. The knowledge on this list helped me make an informed decision and I look forward to contributing as I gain real world experience with my vehicle. -jory bell jory(AT)org.org ------------------ End of DMC-News Digest #055 ***************************
