Hi:
The relays in the De Lorean have part numbers stamped on their covers
that are not De Lorean part numbers. Does anyone know who manufactures
them and if they are also used in some other car. Thanks a lot.

About the 170MPH speedo, While at the Kapac Open House a few weeks back
I talked to Steve Wynn about the reworked speedos and asked if his company
offered this service. He told me he could get the conversion done, but that
he did not like the 170mph version. He said that by doubling the range of
the unit the speedo looses much of its accuracy and smoothness at lower
speeds. He then sent me out back to look at his car. It had a 140mph speedo
in it which Steve told me was Factory Stock. He said a few cars were actually
made with 140mph speedos. He said he finds the 140mph speedo to be much more
accurate at lower speeds and at the same time much more realistic of the cars
actual capabilities on the top end. I asked if he was going to offer this
140mph version as a conversion and all he would say is it was something he
was going to look into when (or if) he had time. Does anyone on the list
have one of these "Factory" 140mph units in their car ? Marty

Subject: DML: AC/Heater fan does not work
Suddenly, with the onset of winter I have no response from any position of
the selector switch that will allow any passage of air into the cockpit.
All was working fine until winter's onset and I switched on the heater for
the first time. Nothing happened at all. I get no vacum action and not
fan response. I went back to try the AC and again nothing. I have checked
all of the fuses and they are all good. The relays are inscrutible to me
and I do not know how to test a relay. Does anyone have any suggestions?

With the exception of the Red, green, white, and blue relay, the rest are just
plain jane relays, The original ones are not the best quality, so your better off
just to replace them with new Bosch or something.

I noticed that there were a couple of people filming (camcorders) at the
warehoue in Columbus last weekend. If you were one of these people would you
contact me about making a copy? I only wished I had brought mine! Hind sight

A number of years ago I was in Chicago for business. We were making the
usual mad dash for the airport, hopeing that our plane would be delayed
so
that we would make it. We passed a flatbed truck that was carrying a car
that I did and did not recognize. What I recognized was the very
Delorean'ish appearance. It had the straight square lines and the grill
work was very similar to the Delorean. It was wider and longer than a
typical Delorean. It had four traditional doors and was painted. It
looked
very much look like what would be a modern day 4 door Delorean. What I
didn't recognize was the emblem. It was not any US or Japanese
manufacturer.
Since we were not going to slow down for a better look, this is all I
know
about the vehicle. Does anyone have any idea as to what it was?
We made the plane with moments, but no breath, to spare.

I posted a question ages ago asking if there was a link between the DeLo
and a Lancia "Monte Carlo" that I saw at a motor show. I forget if it was
a 4-door, but it looked so like a D that I had to look twice to make sure
I wasn't seeing things.

Hi Bob:
I recently had a realy problem and found that I was able to test it by
removing the relay, using my battery charger on the coil tabs to
energise it, then used an ohm meter to check the points. They were bad.
I then removed the can (by bending out the crimped tabs with a jewlers
screw driver). I had to bend up the normaly open point to clean the
center point and then bend the normaly open point back to it original
position. It worked but I don't know how much bending you can get away
with so be careful. If it passes the test of course your problem is
else where.
I think after reading this you will see the reason for my previous post
regarding replacing relays.

Dear DML,
I have a question... When accelerating has anyone heard a
"shhhhhhh" noise? It is not a tick tick tick noise but at certain
points in the acceleration curve I hear a shhhh noise. I was told a tick
tick noise was a leaky exhaust.., if this is the case what is the shhh
noise.? I know it is coming from the rear and maybe even the rear
passenger side. I am not sure what it is..

Nick Kemp described a "DeLorean look-alike" . . .

Could this have been an Aston-Martin Lagonda? This is a very-expensive
car that fits your description quite well. Typically a car like this will
always be transported by truck or trailer. There are two pictures of
Lagondas in the Classic Car Picture Archive:
http://www.archive.vintageweb.net/english.htm
Perhaps best know to Americans for their DB-5 model that James Bond
drove, Aston-Martin is neither American nor Japanese. It's British, like
the DeLorean. Their Lagonda model was made in very limited quantities
during the 1980s.
I hope this helps.

Being a former DeLorean Motor Company employee and a DMC12 owner, I want to
share my observations at a recent DeLorean owners meeting in Columbus, Ohio,
November 1 and 2, sponsored by the new DMC and its owner and president,
Stephen Wynne.
Having had the responsibility for the original DMC Parts Department
administration and the initial set-up of parts supply and distribution, it
was my objective to always have sufficient parts supply on hand to adequately
service the vehicles we brought into this country, to the satisfaction of the
car investor/owner.
To that point, I feel it was a success throughout the short life span of the
company and it was sad to see a viable project fail, especially as the reason
for failure can be attributed to fatal errors in judgement rather than
product failure.
Over the past 15 years, I have been supplying information of parts suppliers
and manufacturers to Stephen Wynne, who, as myself, has the ambition to
provide the best possible service and parts availability, assuring owners
that their investment in this unique product was not a waste.
I was part of the closing of the plant in Belfast, Northern Ireland and
shipment of a massive parts inventory to the US and Kapac warehouse in
Columbus, as well as working with Marvin Katz to set it up. It is therefore
extremely satisfying to realize that with Stephen Wynne's acquisition of
that parts inventory, DeLorean owners now have the advantage of excellent parts
and service support for years to come.
For me, it was a privilege to be invited to the owners meeting in Columbus
and I enjoyed the enthusiasm of the owners being able to tour the warehouse,
marvel over the inventories, find and pick the parts they needed and
wanted.
Stephen Wynne and DMC, Houston with their attitude and knowledge will not
only be able to provide service and parts availability for the car, they
will surely contribute to the enhancement of the cars value and ensure its
position among "Classic Cars".
I want to congratulate all DeLorean owners, that can now drive their cars
with less worry and I want to thank Stephen Wynne for the opportunity to
see the seed I was part of planting coming into full bloom.

This is some old info I think some of the new guys on the list may be
interested in.
Last year I found a company in England called Autosculpt which makes a
hand made miniature Delorean from a resin and aluminum powder which looks
just like pewter. It is approx 1/72 scale ( about 2" long) and, altho it
has no moving parts, it is very well detailed. It makes a very nice Delorean
collectable. Just ask James, I think he's gotten a few. The really nice
part is they only cost $11.00 ea.
If your interested, the exclusive USA distributor is a place called
"Morris Manor Collectables" in Washington state. Give Lori a call at
253-891-2775 or e-mail her at "morrcoll@nwlink.com. She'll be happy to
help you.
Autosculpt also has about 100 plus other cars in this same line.
Here again, Lori can tell you whats avaliable.
Happy Holidays, Marty
