I posted a message about 1 week ago concering
digital instrumentation for the car. I recomended
a company and ever since have received several
request for Phone #, address/ etc....
I don't have the address handy at the time but the
company "Dakota Digital" has a really nice WEB
site where you can order a catalog and get info.
http://www.dakotadigital.com
They have really nice looking products of very high
quality. They offer individual guages with Brushed
aluminum bezels and complete guage clusters.
They also have a nice custom shop for making
just about anything you want.
They have a clock that makes a nice replacement for
those you of that have the ''81 cars.

DMC Keys Now Available
Hello All,
This message is to let all DML members that the DMC Keys are now ready.
We began contacting all the Key-list members with ordering information on
Monday. If you have not received the information and want DMC Keys you
can get this information by sending e-mail to "lseiler@radiance.com" Just
post "Key-info please" and you will automatically receive the ordering
information.
Just a reminder that the "DMC-Keys" mentioned refer to 1981 oem single
IGN/Door Key blanks or the Original DMC Plastic Key top molded on to your
duplicate DMC-keys. The Key tops come in two colors, Black or DMC-Grey.
All the Key sets we are making are individually made by hand, the "fee"
just covers materials and labor and is intended for DML and DOA members,
which is why the request for these keys is limited to one set of two keys
per member.
Once the current list is exhausted, request if any will be filled on a
first come first served basis.
Later, we may make some Key-Fobs from the same key-top dies, depending on
the interest.
OK that's it! If you want DMC-Key blanks or your duplicates with DMC
plastic tops just drop us a line.

There have been a lot of people sending messages to the DeLorean Mailing
List with HTML tags in the text of their messages or people who's email
application automatically appends a duplicate message with HTML tags
added. After this weekend (to allow for another digest containig this
message to be generated), any messages received with HTML tags in the
message will be returned or deleted. The HTML adds unnecessary length to
the digests, which are gerneated based on overall length. The HTML also
is useless to subscribers that use non-HTML email applications.

Thanks for the help. The Delorean Look alike was an Aston-Martin Lagonda.
If you like the square lines of the Delorean front end, you'll like the
Lagonda. Personally, I think that most modern cars look like there was
too
much grit in the wind tunnel.
Take a look at the Lagonda at:

A web search of "Aston Martin Lagonda" would likely yield additional
views.

I think there only two factory versions:
the 85mph one and the "canadian" unit I have in my car ->
240Km/h big white letters and 140mph blue small letters.
It works very well... a friend of mine told me his 85mph unit
froze at 85mph when he goes faster than that speed and I also think
(like James) -> this is killing the speedo angle drive!!

What are some products that you guys have found to be
really good for putting a lasting shine on the stainless finish ?
This last week I was really bored one night so I started testing
a bunch of stuff on the car. I actually masked off areas of the
hood into small squares and tried different products on each
section to see which worked the best. The conclusion to
my test was that there was not anything that gave me the
look I was hoping for. BUT, I did discover that by mixing
several products together and adding a few extra chemicals
I would get better results. So, if anyone has anything that
they have had good results with. please let me know.

Has anyone ever cross referenced the door latch
assemblies ? Although they may have been custom
made for DMC, I really don't think they were. Seems
that they are very "universal" in design judging by the
extra unused levers and bellcranks.

Subject: DML: Winter projects for your DeLorean...
Most of the country has probably put away their cars for the winter, and
for some, it's this time of year when interest wanes in the car.
I was talking with one of the parts suppliers about this phenomenon and
we came up with a quick list of some things that can be done to improve
the appearance of the car "during the off season" so when springs rolls
around, the car looks much nicer than when you tucked it away in the
garage for the winter.
1. Headliners - whether you want to send them off to be done, or spend
the winter trying to do them yourselves. If you do it your self, the
materials are cheap, and it really does improve the interior appearance
to replace the saggy or water stained headliners.
2. Wheel refinishing - if you're not driving the car, there's no time
like now to pull the wheels and take them locally or send them off to be
stripped and refinished. Most places can even fix the gouges from close
encounters with curbs while they're doing the rest of the wheel. Consider
a set of wheel center caps, too.
3. Marker light gaskets - many people don't realize the side marker
lights have (or are supposed to have) gaskets. A set of four is about $20
and in addition to looking nice, will help to keep moisture out of the
light sockets. Ask me how I know this!
There WILL be an occasional nice day this winter, when it's not terribly
uncomfortable to be out in the garage, or to even pull the car out in the
driveway. These are the days to accomplish these projects...
4. Rub strips/side moldings - Stephen has these in his current DW ad.
Replace the missing and damaged ones, or live large and buy the whole
set. Then put them in the closet until that nice day comes along and
spend a couple hours with the car, the moldings and some double-sided
tape.
5. The shift boot on the manual transmission cars, especially if it's
original, is got to be pretty tired looking. The original plastic frame
might be broken, too. A nice little project that is relatively cheap is
replacing this with one of the new, metal framed boots. All the usual
sources have them in black, but a couple years ago i saw the DeLorean
Motor Center in Garden Grove had them in grey to match the seats.
6. How's your carpets look? If you've got the money to spare, almost all
the carpet is available from the usual sources. I know I saw enough to
carpet at the warehouse in Columbus to do several large HOUSES. A cheaper
way to cover it up (and protect them) is to buy a set of OEM-style
floormats, too.
Living in Arizona, I can pretty much do whatever I want whenever I want
(note: don't pick up a wrench that's been sitting in the sun during the
115 degree summer, though), but for those of you living in the bad
weather parts of the country, what do you do to your car this time of
year?

Subject: DML: My winter project will be door guides
Until the Kapac warehouse tour in 1996 I didn't even realize that my car
was sold without door guides. I wondered for years why my doors
would not close correctly unless I parked on perfectly level ground.
When a door is closed incorrectly a DeLorean looks terrible, as if the
body panels don't fit together.
This may be common in early 1981 cars. Curiously, Dave Colley's red
car, with a VIN even lower than mine, has door guides on only one side.
So while my car is garaged for the winter I will be installing the
stainless
door guide set on both sides.
On headliners, has anyone tried removing their headliners for the winter,
and storing them up-side-down inside their house? This might make them
last longer. I don't know for sure.

Well, I'm still a new owner, but I couldn't imagine just letting my car
sit
for an entire season. I'm just driving it a couple days a week right now,
but it'll be my daily driver when the company I work for moves to a
building with private parking. I'm in Eugene, OR, so the temperatures
aren't very extreme, and I don't feel as though I'm causing damage to
drive
in 30-50 degree temperatures in the Winter here. I'm sure they'll be
plenty of time for the car to sit in the garage once something like the
transmission goes out.

Last year I posted a message to this list that I had copies of John
DeLorean's
autobiography for sale. Lately I have had several inquiries about the
book.
Yes, I still do have some for sale. These are new books, still sealed in
cellophane as they came from the publisher (great condition for getting
autographed). There are two books per wrapper, but I will split them up
if
desired. (Just to let you know that if you order only one it will no
longer
be sealed) I am selling them for $25.00 per book. This includes
shipping by
First Class Priority Mail in the United States.
