Rob Grady at PJ Grady is currently working on this type of system. I saw the prototype on his Grren DeLorean with the remotes. Looks great. Give him a call for more information.

Used in conjunction with an alarm system that will give you expansion options (e.g. Alpine 8080) I think this might be possible. Just thought I'd throw the idea out there to get others opinions...

I purchased a K&N 57i air induction filter kit for my Opel Manta and I will DEFINATELY be purchasing one for my DMC (When I buy one).
The K&N never has to be replaced!!!!
It also helps the engine to breath more easily and on my Manta I could hear the distinctive 'induction' sucking noise. It sounded great and with the Big Bore exhaust on the back and noticed an increase in acceleration. Of course with the exhaust too the whole engine sucks and breathes out at the other end more efficiently.....
On the DMC the induction noise will be probably hardly heard but I think it is worth fitting. Just think how much you spend on a new air-filter every time you service your Delorean!!!!!
I never had the car tested to find the exact horse power increase. I think 26 is a little unrealistic!!!!
Just my 2 pence worth!!!

Beware (or at least check often) the old cut and switch spring trick. I did this many years ago and all seemed fine until I took the D in for some routine maintaince a couple of years ago and we saw that the front (driver's side) spring had broken and shifted slightly. This was totally unnoticeable when she was down on all fours, nor did it seem to affect handling, so I have no idea how long I had this situation. I really love the look of the car with the cut and switch because you can get her to sit very low (more so than any of the newer alternitives) so I replaced both front cut springs with the same. I realize that the aftermarket sets are better for the car's geometry (is that the right word?) and at some point I will go to them. Needless to say it makes me a bit concerned now that I'm a little older and wiser and if I drove the car oftener then I do, it would be sooner then later. Dan - 7065

I hate to beat anything to death - however, changing the height does have a negative effect on your bumper height to OTHER vehicles if you have an accident. Also, aiming of headlights and without attention to camber and caster negative handling effects.

Jim,
I have the carquest on my car right now. It works but the shaft is a little longer than the stock DeLorean one causing it to stick out about 1.5 inches longer than the stock shaft. It makes no difference functionally and will only cause problems if your car is being judged for concourse. You probably have to remove the intake manifold to get it off. When you're putting the pump back on, it's possible to orient the hose clamps in such a way that you won't have to remove the manifold next time. You'll see what I mean once you start working on it.
--Rob Hook P.S. You have to have the pulley pressed off of the old pump. The SHAFT is pressed through the back of the old pump to remove the pulley. It's possible to 'press' it onto the new one with a bolt, a washer and a short length of pipe.

Has anybody replaced their water pump with a alternate source water pump. One of the Parts Cross Reference lists shows a Carquest 9146 or 9147 pump as a replacement.

Well as the subject says, My D is now my daily driver, at least for a few days. Although I planed to keep her in the inside durring the chicago winter, My other cars engine quit.
To make a long, long story short, The junk yard that I was getting an engine from, misplaced the engine, and I now will have to get one somewhere else.
I never thought I would say this, but It was eaiser to get a used transmission for my DeLorean, then it is to find a 455 engine for a 72' Buick Riviera.
Have fun everyone

K&N does not make a filter that is an exact fit for the DeLorean. One of our club members is working with a K&N Engineer to produce a custom fit bracket that will allow one of their filters to work right. No pricing or availability details yet. Keep an eye on the "Parts" section of our club web site: http://www.midstatedmc.com/
He has dyno tested the prototype kit and in the DeLorean it produced a 3HP gain. I agree that 26HP is very unrealistic for ANY car with just a K&N. Max I ever heard of was 10HP and that was on a car that had a very restrictive factory filter.

Incorrect; John DeLorean can't sell his estate because he doesn't own it. The 434 acre estate belongs to the federal courts and Merrill Lynch. The property is being auctioned off to help pay the over $24 million that John owes to his creditors.
I believe he will have to satisfy that financial obligation before moving into another multi million dollar project.

Dear List,
I had a funny thing happen to me a few months ago with my car.
Well, it wasn't funny at the time, but it is now looking back.
The day started with me deciding to take a risk and have a Jiffy
Lube place bleed my cooling system for me. I tried doing it myself, but
the last owner of my car replaced my bleeder screw with a 1/4 inch bolt
wrapped with teflon tape and I wasn't sure if I was getting the system
completely free of air or not. I figured that Jiffy Lube couldn't
possibly screw up if I stood there and watched them to make sure they
did everything right. They did an excellent job with the bleeding, and
even got out an air bubble that must have been trapped deep in the
system. They put things back together and I went home. I had the
perfect opportunity to test their work later on that day as I had to
make a 100 mile trip from Cincinnati to Columbus, Ohio. That was a
mistake! The car made the whole highway part of the trip without any
problems but when I got into Columbus, it started heating up and making
a weird "whirring" noise. I was in rush hour traffic and not far from
my destination, so I figured I'd tough it out. Well, the car ended up
dying right at the busiest intersection in the entire town. I got out,
did a quick inspection and discovered a trickle of antifreeze running
down the street behind my car, so I popped the bonnet and explored. I
found that when the Jiffy Lube geniouses had put one of the cooling
hoses back on, they put it too close to the air conditioner belt. As
the car heated up, the hose expanded and came into contact with this
belt, thus wearing a neat hole just deep enough for the cooling system
to lose all pressure.
I had a police man who was passing by at the time call a tow truck.
I am a AAA member, but the police man said I had to be satisfied with
the first flat bed that came by considering the circumstances. I
agreed, and about an hour later the ugliest, most disgusting tow truck
that I've ever seen pulled up to answer my call. To make a long story
shorter the truck got me to my destination successfully, and I was able
to patch up the system to limp it home.
About 4 months later we got our new Columbus phone books, and I'm
busy flipping through it trying to find a tow truck to get a misplaced
vehicle moved from blocking in my car. I turn to the towing section and
was drawn to some ads featuring various sports cars. Right in the
middle of all of these is an ad for the towing company that helped me
that fateful day 4 months ago. In their new ad they feature a drawing
of a DeLorean (no doubt mine) on the back of a tow truck with the words
"Towing for Jesus" right below it. Apparently my car made quite an
impression on this small firm!! LOL
I'm back in Cincinnati for a week or two, but next time I'm in
Columbus, I'll be sure to scan that ad and post it to the vault.

Hello all:
1. Looks like the DML might have an anti-spam feature enabled, so replace the - in my email address with an l. (devin_mitchell(AT)yahoo.com).
2. It also looks like carmax may have changed their web site from the last time I checked. You can run your VIN from http://www.carfax.com/images/uucp6a.htm. Once again the "-" may have been appended to the end. if this is the case, the last 3 characters are "htm".
3. Carmax seems to ask a question every now and then to make sure nobody has "got ahold" of my account name. I just checked and it prompted me for the last 4 digits of my credit card I used to pay for the service with. If you try to check your VIN, and it's asking you a similar question, just try back again in a little while. I will check every so often to make sure the nag questions are answered.
4. For those who have asked me to run their VIN: I will as soon as I have a web browser again. In an effort to clean some space off my HDD I accidentally deleted some of Internet Explorer 5 and now it won't run (whoops). I'm downloading Netscape right now....
Enjoy!

I just replaced the coolant system hoses this past spring. Last weekend I noticed the same problem you have, the long hose that crosses over the belt had a nice groove worn in it. I was wondering how that happened since there was clearance between the hose and belt. BTW, the belt is tensioned properly. I wasn't to happy when I discovered this problem. It seems that the metal "loop" that surrounds the hose at the top must have been an after thought in the design. I still have the original hoses that came with the car, I need to get them out and look to see if the construction is the same as the replacement set I purchased last spring. A good quality coolant hose should have reinforcement cords in them to prevent expansion at operating temperatures.
I am curious if other list members have had this sort of problem, or is it that I posses the same genius genes as the Jiffy Lube staff.

Hi list, I posted a message about VPA corp. that makes the shaved door handle kits b= efore. I also have this kit installed on my DeLorean, and it works great. The look= s you get popping up your doors while walking to your vehicle in a parking = lot. I very rarely use my door handle. The kit has two 15lb.door solenoids that are mounted on each door, not actu= ators. =
Theres a company called Autoloc that sells a similar kit that looks alot ni= cer but is more pricey. But with Autoloc's solenoids you have a choice of 1= 5lbs. or 35lbs. of pull. If I had to buy the kit again I would look into th= e 35lb. solenoids. The 15lbs is barely enough to open the doors with modifa= cation. And also the 35 is twice the size of the 15 and I assume it will weigh more= , so I don't know if it will mess with the balance on the doors. So do some research on both of these companies products. And also if you bu= y the kit you don't have to get the ones with the door poppers, there not n= eeded. And you can buy the solenoids and remote modules seperately. Later Mike Vin#1113 =

May we safely assume that you are clicking on the link for "Delroean Memorabilia", and then clicking on the option to view items on EBay?
AFAIK, this is the only way you would get to a page on Ebay from the DMC site. :) And, as they are currently not selling any items on EBay, the page would in fact be blanks.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but "The Best of Motor Trend" magazine has two small write-ups of the DeLorean, as well as one of the Bricklin. Firstly, the DeLorean and Bricklin feature in the "Hits, Misses, and Never-weres" article. They were labled "Misses" :-(
Secondly, the DeLorean prototype is pictured in a special "Motor Trend Timeline" under the year 1977. Next to the pic there's a small blurb and an anonymous quote.
Lastly, there's a kick-arse photo of Don Johnson's beloved Ferrari Daytona Spider from Miami Vice, which marks the beginning of the 80's section of the timeline. It's not DeLorean-related, but it's a damn fine car nonetheless :-)

I, too, experienced that dreaded belt vs hose situation early this past summer. I had not gone to Jiffy Lube. What I had done, however, was to lean on the hose while reaching to the rear of the engine compartment. That pushed the hose into the belt. In addition to making sure the belt is as far from the hose as I could possibly make it, I wrapped the hose with an extra piece and tie wrapped it for extra protection.

You know, I think the best use for this CARFAX service would be to complete the DMC production chronology. I'm not suggesting that someone should plug in ALL of the possible VINs, just the unknown ones that appear to be in gaps. If the car has ever been registered, it should show up in the database and can be added to the chronology.
There's over 1000 people on the list, right? Everybody gets 10 VINs to look up. :-)

My recent rejection by "Kwik-Car" for a simple oil change irritated me sufficiently to write an e-mail to the corporate office through their web site. Since each location is independently owned, the letter was forwarded to the local owner who wrote me directly.
He said that the tech I spoke with was wrong, and that he would be happy to service my Delorean if I would supply the filter. So I returned, armed with a filter number and some cross-references, but they stocked none of them. They agreed to fetch one of my interchanged filters so I returned the next day. Aside from having to supply them with the 5/16" square socket, they did a fine job and were very polite and professional.
The irony is that when we were done, the manager pulled out the filter application book and found a listing under "Delorean" for a filter that they stock. They even swapped to this filter for nothing!
I must add that I switched to 10w30 synthetic Mobil 1, and I swear the motor runs quieter and turns over easier, although I could also swear that I get 2-3 HP after I wash it. :-)

I don't think you have remotely approached beating a dead horse, not by a long shot.
Most average motorist and a good many DeLorean drivers don't begin to appreciate just how special and precise the DMC-12 suspension is. All that was ever done to meet the US bumper height requirements was the installation of a longer spring and front end re alignment. This as we all know ruined the look and caused a good deal of control problems at speeds of 70mph+.
The only requirement to putting the D back in to it's design configuration is installing the correct springs with the correct medullas rating and correct front end alignment. Once this is completed the DMC-12 is a marvel to drive and behaves as designed way past the 100mph mark as it should. Handling is at least 50% of what a "Sports Coupe" is all about. From an elegant design point of view, setting up a DMC-12 to low, or wit it's nose sticking up, or with the same size wheels is not only ugly but a road hazard as well. There is literally nothing any one can cut, bolt on weld on, or substitute on the DMC-12 suspension that will improve it. It is as good as it is ever going to get.
PJ Grady has the correct length front springs (and I suspect all the other DeLorean parts sources have them as well) which is all most DMC-12's need. If you have a cut and switch on your hands the only GOOD solution is to replace all the springs with the correct one's.
Any one who believes that mounting cheap tires, cut springs, same size hubs, cross-index suspension parts and Home Depot trailing arm bolts and hardware store chamber shims is kidding them selves. I suggest that if you are one of these owners when you lose control and in that last moment before you slide off the road, bridge or cliff- in to that flaming gasoline truck , just remember at one time your DMC-12 had one of the best designed suspension systems in the world of cars...and you changed it.
