Perhaps it would be in order for you to replace the original mechanism if it is
defective rather than trying to modify it.
I have had my DeLorean for nearly 18 years now and I have NEVER had the engine
bay cover fall on my head. I suppose it might if it were defective.

I have found that ink eraser works far faster and better than
pencil eraser. Emery cloth or emery board works quite well too.

Try contact gel. I believe it is available at most stores that would sell
the contact cleaner spray. I've had good results from this before.

I am considering removing the (white) paint on my 1981 Delorean.
Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations from experience on
performing such a project? I am wondering whether I should blast the
paint off or use a paint remover. Is there a paint remover that won't
damage or pigment the stainless steel in any way? Do I need a tool to
regrain the stainless steeel?

someone told me that they have made a hook and attached it the louvres
then open the engine bay and hook it onto the louvres. Assuming the
shocks are in good shape it should easily hold them both up.
I also think they removed the original arm that is used to hold up the
hatch because they didnt need it anymore.

If indeed the master cyl has leaked and is low, you have more things to
check than just the brake system. When they leak, the fluid runs down the
inside of the frame below the master cyl and puddles on top of the plate
under the fuel tank. Shortly thereafter the epoxy will soften and begin to
bubble and peel free from the metal . This is common to leaky master cyls
and it takes elbow grease to scrape the loose epoxy off and requires
removing the plate under the fuel tank. Rob Grady sells powder coated plates
for under the fuel tank and I'd guess the other shops have similar
offerings. The point here is to follow up on repairing this damage, which
is, for the most part, out of sight but leaves the frame vulnerable to
corrosion.

Subject: [DML] Good D Leaks gas New D has problems
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Well I guess I bought my second delorean just in time. I was idling my
good 81 delorean (VIN 6808) in my drive way today, and just as I was
telling my father how lucky we have been to not have hardly any problems
with this D, I looked down and saw a puddle of gas. It was dripping out of
the middle of the car a little bit behind the fuel tank. It does not drip
when thae car is off, so I guess it is a hose. WOuld it be possible to
change this hose with out have the car on a lift? I mean could I jack it
up and change it? Or whould I leave this task to a more experienced mechanic?
Another thing. The second D's (17167) turn signals, horn, and hazard
switch, still wont work. I checked fuse six. I know it is good, and I
checked the flasher unit as well. (I put them in 6808 and they worked). I
there anything else I should check before I start ripping wires out of the
car?
One more thing. On 17167 (1983 second D) I noticed something peculiar
that might have something to do with its hot start problem. I noticed that
when I turn the key to the position just before cranking the engine I do
not hear the hum of the fuel pump, like I do in my 81. If I crank the
engine, and it does not turnover, I then hear the humming fuel pump for
just a few seconds. I think the previous owner, who put the engine in
himself, may have wired the fuel put to come on only when you crank the
car. This would explain why it takes slightly longer (when the car is
cold) to start this D than my 81. (the 83 sill wont start when its hot)
If you are able to make sense of my incoherent rambling, then I commend
you, and thank you for your input.
Joe P.

In looking over this interesting list, Pacific Northwest DeLorean Club
president Arnie Brandon caught something I missed. VIN 805, shown as
assigned to Roy Nesseth, was until a few years ago owned by PNDC member John
Glasco in eastern Washington. I remember seeing this twin turbo A/T car at
one of our club tech sessions, and being intrigued by the fact that it had
no muffler, just exhaust coming directly out of the turbos (it didn't sound
all that great either). Shortly after that session, John went out to his
garage to start the car and it instantly caught fire. He was able to shove
it outside and save his house, but the car was a total loss (one of those
infamous engine fires I mentioned awile back that got everybody so uptight).
The insurance company sold it to a Moses Lake, WA, wrecking yard where I was
able to purchase it. Arnie and I trailered it to my shop where it was
totally dismantled and parted out. I still have the engine, doors, 1/4
panels, half of the frame, the front sub body, etc. The remains of the twin
turbos were sold to someone rebuilding another burnt car.
I believe I reported the demise of this car, one of 6 I have parted out, to
the DOA record keepers back when they were still on speaking terms with
me.....

I don't like the way it bows against the middle bracket. Last week I used a
baseball bat. I've also used a 2x4...I hear cut down broom sticks also work
well.

I think the real issue in re-printing SSI would be getting the needed
permissions to do it.
James Espey was looking into a softcover and hardcover reprint of SSI a
year or two ago. See this archive issue for the initial post he did:
http://www.dmcnews.com/backissues/dml352.html
My quick search didn't turn up the results of this, but my often
fallible memory says that he ran into problems getting permission to do
the reprint due to legal issues.

black and white. I would guess that at 15-25.00 each pre orders for
1000-1500 copies could be presold, particularly if this edition had
updates and perhaps a new chapter by Lamm. A lot has happened since
1984 at between libraries, DMC/DOA folks and BTTF collectors, I'm sure
it would sell well, particularly with SSI's reputation as the
unchallenged definitive look at the DMC.

I'd clean off the corrosion first.
I've seen a spray on product at most auto parts stores for preventing
corrosion on battery terminals. It should work, but would be messy due
to overspray. I *think* I've seen a tube of a gel type one too, but
don't remember where. Boat store??

hello fellow d owners. i wanted to take a short moment to say thanks
to dmc joe for all the time and effort that he puts into this mailing
list. with out the dedication and attention that he and others like
him give, some of us would be out in the cold. i personaly met joe at
a delorean cruise-in in GA. he was very nice and helpfull. i would
recomend that if you need help with you d more than just research help,
you should take your car to joe personaly if possible. someone who's
dedicated him self to helping others like he does on this list (without
fiscial gain) must be trustworthy to let him work on our great delorean
cars.
thanks you for all the time and effort you give the delorean and the
people that love the car. may the
Lord continue to bless everything that you do.
