Dear list
Thank you for helping me all the time, and it happened again...
Two weeks ago, I began to smell some exhaust gas in my Delorean while I was driving on Rt1, NJ. So I decided to replace the exhaust gaskets (5 exhaust port gaskets, all the exhaust studs, nuts and washers)and I did it by the local shop. However, each time I start the engine, it smells again. Should I replace a exhaust heat stove and a Heat Stove Duct also? Could you please help or any advice? Thanks again.

I replaced my 5 speed with an automatic. I recall that they seamed to weigh about the same. The automatic maybe a little less, but with a trans cooler up front with the new hoses, it probably about the same.

After seeing several pictures of D's with straps over the spare tire, I have to ask whether or not this was a standard item. My car has none, and doesn't appear to have ever had one.
Is this another factory peculiarity, or did the previous owner of mine decide to keep a souvenir?

Hi all. I just have a question. If the owner found DUSTY in a barn, how is it that he became the owner of the car? Was it found in a barn on land that he bought at some point in time? Because, if he just stumbled upon it, wouldn't he have to research the owner?

Dusty was STORED in a bard after being bought at one of the liquidation auctions. She sat there for 16 years until Chris bought her from the bloke that bought her 16 years before. "One careful owner" eh? :o) Any more questions, why not address them to Chris?
Cheers,

You actually performed a Tranny conversion?
Was it a lot of work?
I was considering converting an automatic to a 5-speed a while back, but was persuaded not to by the list, because of the difficulty.

Wilson, Remove the access panel located under the spare tire. Inspect all the components at the top of the tank especially the top of the fuel pump. You will need to remove the pump cover seal (2 / 1 / 0 fig 1) to look at the top of the pump.

Hey group.........
The battery disconnect switch discount deal was a success. I had 17 people email and order one or more switches. Everyone got the discount which was over 50% less than to the ones advertised in Hemmings and most catalogs. Everyone should have them by Christmas.
Now, my next venture. INTERIOR LIGHTS. Both of mine were broken when I got the car--cracked frames, broken lense, etc. DMC wants $39.95 a piece plus shipping (P/N 100540). This was a fairly simple design and I knew I could find something like it and make it work. I eventually found one. It looked even better than the originals and fit perfectly, but didn't function the same way. I think it was built for the center position to be a ON with the doors open, then the back and forth position to be constantly ON.
After some work with a Dremel tool, soldering iron, and some wire it works like the originals. Center function is OFF, back is ON, and forward is ON with the doors switches (10-20 second delay after they close). The only thing is that the spades on the light are smaller than the D's connectors. They still fit though--they won't fall off or anything.
Price........They shouldn't be more than $25 shipped ($42.50 for two). Oh, the correct bulbs are included as well. This is close to, or more than 50% of what DMC wants for two shipped (I don't know if they include the bulbs or not). Not to mention I think they look even better--a little more sleek. The switch is smoother and more precise. Of course, they're not original and have been modified, but we're talking some big savings.
I put some pictures up on my website: http://www.mindspring.com/~gatewayaag/light.html
I've been using one in my D for the past month without problems. The car didn't burn to the ground or act any differently because, now with the modification, the wiring is the same--before there would have been problems.
I'll probably order these next Monday or Tuesday. Let me know ASAP if you're interested. I'll definitely order some extras, but I'd just like to get an idea if anyone's interested. For all I know, mine may be the only ones that ever broke.
Email me at gatewayaag(AT)mindspring.com "gatewayaag" for those who get the "-" for the "g".
Thanks!

About two weeks ago while I was driving on Rt1, NJ, all the sudden I began to smell exhaust gas in my delorean. After that, I ordered 5 pieces of exhaust manifold gaskets; all the exhaust studs nuts and washers from the Volvo dealer.
I was afraid to break rusty exhaust manifolds, so I simply asked the local shop to do this job by 6 hours job. However I still smell the Exhaust leaks.
Each time I started the engine. When I get high rpm like 4000-5000, the gas become a strong smell. Should I replace a Manifold Heat Stove and Heat Stove Duct also? or should I dout the local shop? Could any one help or advice me please. Thanks again.

And on a side not in most other vehicles a manual transmission weighs less than an automatic. But with this being a transaxle, it would be difficult to compare.

Scott,
I cant answer your question about the exhaust tips but I can tell you to stick with the OEM exhaust system. It does a very nice job of giving the PRV a throaty sound without being annoying, especially at highway cruising speed. The best attribute of the system is it's stainless steel construction. How many 18 year old cars do you know of are still fitted with their factory installed mufflers.

Steve,
The De Lorean tachometer normally parks at 1000 RPM when the engine is shut down. Check all of the gauge connections from the ignition coil to the instrument cluster for your other tach problems. If none of those items is discovered as the cause of the problem the gauge is probably defective.
We know of no rebuilt tachometers for the De Lorean.
