Hi, I took my D to my mechanic to get a nice tune-up done the other
day, and he had no idea which parts to buy. I told him of the
cross-reference list I had, but he told me to just buy the parts on my own
and bring them to him to save a lot of time and some money. So I need to
know of the best place (price) to get a set of spark plugs, wires, cap +
rotor, and ignition coil. Is there any place that would give me a kit price
or something like that? I would like to get mostly original parts (if
available), but would like to get a nicer than original set of wires (again,
if these are available).
Thanks,
Mike Schaefer

The vote percent was actually .04% which is considerably smaller than .4%,
considering that over 21000 people have voted, that means that only 8 people
voted for the DeLorean. I'd say that's pretty good, and we can assume that
those 8 people were VERRRY uninformed!

When someone singles out DMC (Houston) in their posting, I feel an
obligation to respond.
The original interior door lights are notorious for cracked frames,
cracked/melted lenses and/or broken/melted tabs that hold it in
place. The originals have not been available for years. The upgraded
REPLACEMENT, which we carry, has a METAL frame and a GLASS lens, that
functions exactly as the original with no modifications and correct
size spade terminals and includes the bulb.
I don't know if Jonathan has just now discovered that the Hummer dome
light is a near match for the original, but is plastic and does
function differently as he described. This was an EARLY subject of
the DML a few years back. The Hummer dome lights are available from
Hummer dealers for about $16.
In any case, it boils down to if you want an improved, properly
designed and functioning light fixture for your car, or something
(possibly plastic) that someone has "kitchen table engineered" to
work.
Perhaps I should have a cup of coffee BEFORE I ready my email from now on... :)

Well, it looks like I'm going to have to get to the tach. In looking at
my books, I don't see explicit instructions on how to remove the
instrument cluster. I found 4 nuts under the dash that when removed
loosened up the binnicle but it still won't come off (the speedo cable
was disconnected at the little box near the pedals). Am I going about
this the right way? Would this be the same way one would replace a
burned out indicator bulb?

Not to blow my own horn, but there is an article in the last
'zine (with pictures!) on how to replace the fuel sender and the
fuel pump sealing ring. Anyone contemplating repairs in
that area might want to take a look.

John go to historychannel.com, That is where I got info to record it last
nite. I think they do repeats? The show was OK they blamed the british
government for not overseeing the project from start to finish. They did'nt
blame John until he upped production without trained workforce, which lead to
poor quality. Overall I think it was good.

Well I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a copy of Stainless Steel
Illusion. Where else but on E-Bay. For those of you lucky enough to have a
dusty copy of it in your trunk or behind the seat please treasure it! These
little books are going for top dollar now. If you need money for DeLorean
parts then put the book up on E-bay. There's no shortage of buyers out
there. After the talk of reproduction books I wanted an original, just like
my car. By the way, I paid $200 for my copy. Crazy? You betcha, why else
would I drive a DeLorean? Fil Vigil.

All you need to do is take off the door panel from the inside. Then reach
your left hand into the hole of the stainless steel and feel for the
stabilizing/locking rods nuts. Then adjust them with your hand to loosen
them. Also, if you operated your locks for any reason while the door was
open it may be frozen and in need of manual release.
Once the locking rods are removed you should be able to open the door from
the inside or out. Once the door opens, replace the rods and carefully set
them. It may take several tries to make sure they operate smoothly. Also,
make sure your door locks operate from the drivers side (be careful of the
door locks where they hook on, where they are plastic).

Fuel distributor kits are available from DELOREAN ONE (800-dmc-help).
These kits are expensive approximately $300. Also, check your fuel line
hoses because the rubber around the hose cracks. Also, when applying the
new seals make sure the goose clamp is completely tight as to prevent fuel
loss/leakage (fumes into drivers compartment). for any other questions
send to delorean_one(AT)yahoo.com

First adjust your idle speed screw under the engine compartment so your
idle runs at about 1200 rpm. Second, deloreans are not designed for very
cold weather, using the vents not the heater adjustment on your console
provides for maximum heat dispersion. Also according to your low VIN # you
may have an older heater fan (squirrel cage). You can find one at the
Delorean One company for about $100. Contact them at 800-DMC-HELP.

If you choose to open up your door compartment understand that there are
many small parts that need to placed in exactly the same way you removed
them. you have to go through door lock rods to get to the window track and
its very easy to break the glass so be careful. Its hard to see but if you
look carefully you will see how the window operates and can pretty much
figure it out for yourself.
As for your brake problem, if you remove your wheels you can see your
adjustment right above the main brake caliper. Adjustments can be made
accordingly with simple tools. As you pointed out, check your pads.
