greetings..
the delorean has been featured in a couple of video games recently... in innerstate '82, you can drive an '82 dmc, complete with machine guns.. (yah-hoo!!)
and if you check out this link... http://www.microsoft.com/games/midtown/community.htm you can take a look at the delorean that will be available for midtown madness.. the picture shown is very rough, but the model is still under construction.
i find this especially cool, since it is my car that was used to build the model. it's being built by a friend of mine (stephen cameron), who is a graphic designer.
at the microsoft site, there is a link to his midtown madness site.
just thought i would let you know..

Hello Mike Money,
Later in the Q your specific parts question is answered, so I won't do so again, but I would like to offer you a suggestion................no offense intended!
Yes there are cross referenced non-delorean parts list and yes many of todays equivalents are much better quality, but you should use original parts when ever possible, with few exceptions there is little cost difference. I have some serious doubt in any mechanic that doesn't know what parts to order in a tune up. With the exception of very common parts I would suggest that you consider using parts from a DeLorean supplier.

Not to blow Mikes horn,
But I struggled with this repair several years ago after finding
my self stranded on a trans bay bridge. Mikes instructions are as
good as they get and correct, even down to being sure there are no kinks
in the pick up lines and fuel return line. I might add that if a person
were in the middle of such a project and found that they were missing
the copper crush gaskets for the Banjo fittings, the old ones can be
softened on any kitchen gas stove and re surfaced by hand and re-used.
Good luck.

Hello James,
Are you suggesting to the list that given the options, that to use your
terms "kitchen table engineered" parts are inferior to what DMC Houston
has to offer? I can think of half a dozen "kitchen table engineered" items
that are not only better than the original item, they are less expensive as
well. In some cases "kitchen table engineered" are so good that you can't
even distinguish them from OEM parts. And of course some are vast
improvements.
I am replying to you in the public section as I think that it is important
for list members, especially new owners, understand the difference between
what you appear to be suggesting and the true state of some replacement
parts not from at DMC Houston.
Note to moderators
This message is intended for general list posting, I feel it is important that
list members are aware that just because one of the commercial DeLorean
list members makes a pronouncement, that the value or quality of a non-Commercial
part may still be as good or better than the ones offered. By way of example
There are a number of electrical solutions that run from the Zilliazing',
relay kits, and air bleed kits, break and clutch lines to be considered.
Thanks

I just bought a five speed not too long ago...let me see...the shipping documentation says it weighs 100 lbs. I have NO idea how accurate that is but it's probably close.

I replaced my 5 speed with an automatic. I recall that they seamed to weigh about the same. The automatic maybe a little less, but with a trans cooler up front with the new hoses, it probably about the same.

Hey List,
Ed Bernstein of DeLorean One doesn't want to do business with me (I know what your all thinking, I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight because of this either). I just wanted to let everyone on the list know that I just got off the phone with Ed from DeLorean One asking for a FREE Catalog, which all it says on their web page that all they wanted was my VIN# which I gave him no problem at all. After I gave him the VIN# he had mentioned stuff that I spoke to him about from 2 years before. He told me that since I do business with PJ Grady, I am pretty well set, and that it wouldn't be right for them to solicite to me, but I told them that I went to him about the catalog, he didn't. He then said that because I am doing business with PJ Grady already he wouldn't like to deal with me because I would go to another DeLorean Supplier to get a "deal." Does that make sense to anyone else? If I bought a part from DMC Houston does that mean I can ONLY buy parts from DMC Houston? This doesn't make sense to me. It doesn't say anywhere that we can only go to one parts supplier for our DeLorean needs. It is the American way to try and find a bargain anywhere we can, right? If you can get the exact same part from at one place that is like 40% cheaper from the other, but you already bought a screw from that first supplier does that mean you are obligated to buy the part from the place that sells it 40% more? I can't believe DeLorean One is still in business after treating potential customers like that. New owners...you really don't know how good you have it when we see that we have PJ Grady and DMC Houston to work with. These are 2 great DeLorean shops and I honestly wouldn't know what I would do without them. I even got a Christmas card the other day from PJ Grady, wishing me a Merry Christmas, how nice is that? I just wanted to let the list know about another situation with ED Bernstein and DeLorean One.
Later, Nick

History Channel is having a "Quiz of the Century" discussing various events. In the section on "Cars" - along with the Tucker and the Model T - Question #36 was on the DeLorean. There was some footage - just a very little bit, though I hadn't seen it before. Jerry Springer asked the quiz question, which was "Which metal was the DeLorean's body made of." The three choices were the usual: Aluminum, Titanium, and Stainless Steel. Fortunately, the spot managed to avoid saying anything bad about the DeLorean and all the shots were flattering. Jerry mentioned that JZD was working on a new project, but he said it was the Firestar 500. :}

We seem to have started another Vendor Comment Thread - a good time to restate/clarify a few rules of the list.
As long as the posts are factual ("I called or went in and and such and such
happened") there's no problem, it's just advice to the list (like a consumer
magazine). This applies to complaints or compliments about all vendors or
other DeLorean-related entities. We know that there are list members with
experiences of both kinds, and both types will be posted.
However, posts that even hint or have a tone of a personal attack (i.e. flame) will not be posted to the list. This is not censorship, just good manners.

I too have been turned away from DeLorean One because I've 'shopped elsewhere.' I think the philosophy behind D1 is that they are the 'be all end all' for DeLorean information, parts and services. Sure Ed knows his stuff. That's why he's in business. But if I can get part 'xyz' from Rob or Steve for $50 bucks, why would I spend $80 bucks to get the same part from Ed? Heck, maybe the box it comes in is prettier! Why Ed turns away customers who have money and are willing to part with it is beyond me. I know my money is just as green as anyone elses and spends the same. I would leave my name... but heck, I MIGHT have to call Ed one day for parts... and I wouldn't want to be turned away because I disagree with his business practices.
