Dave,
The rear anti sway (roll) bar does for the rear suspension exactly what the= front bar does for the front suspension; i.e.: minimizes body lean.
Sorry, cant help you on the second question, why not contact KYB tech suppo= rt.

I have two questions about this setup:
1) How does a rear sway bar affect handling? Anyone have one that could give me some insight? 2) Does anyone know how to adjust the 'gas-adjust shocks'? I recall that they can be tuned somehow...

Good guess; the doors were assembled on a separate line and hung on the bod= y at a later stage of assembly.

My guess is that the doors were assembled separate from the rest of the car and merged at the assembly line. It wouldn't make much sense to install all of the inner door stuff with the door mounted to the car - too much back stress for the assemblers.

Dear DMC-Joe,
I need to replace my front wheel bearings because my government says so. There's only about 1/4" top to bottom movement in my wheels (I never even noticed it). But when they lifted the car and turned the front wheels freely you could hear the bearings grind.
What bearings do I need, and is it easy to replace them yourself or do I need to have this done by a specialised mechanic?

Hello people, I have been observing your list for a few days now and have been trying to ignore the kids on the list. Your list looks informative. My question is simple. Are their any list members in Kansas or Missouri who would be kind enough, if I drove to your home or elsewhere, to spend some time with me learning about pre-purchase inspections or just general knowledge about deloreans? I have owned a Porsche for quite some time now and I enjoy helping others about Porsche. I do not know everything, but I am a help. I was wanting to attend the delorean conference last October in St.Louis but was unable to due to a work conference that I had to attend:-(. Thanks in advance. Rudy On the seventh day, God created high-end audio, Porsche automobiles, and fine swiss wristwatches.....and it was good.

I am selling my 1982, #10688. I am the original owner . The car has about 50,000 miles, non-smoker, and has only ever been driven by me and Stephen Wynne from DMC. It comes with black factory floor mats, and has had black MotoSheep skins on the seats from day one. I'll also include various spare parts, complete service manual, owners manual, and some original sales literature. DMC installed a new clutch and rear seal last year (they have all the service records) and an Alpine CD player with amp and new speakers. Other than the Alpine unit, it is all original.
First $20,000 takes her home - she'll drive anywhere. Email me at impact.auto(AT)airmail.net or call (972)436-8161 Dallas Texas area.

it depends where they are disconnected, there are plugs on the rods that turn the lights on when the door is open and those can be easily pushed back on, or he might have disconnected them from the fuse box, and that is also easy to fix, just plug a fuse back into the slot, or he might have done something else... It will be in San Antonio, Texas at the end of January, and I need to locate a Delorean that I can rent for 2 days to be used in this opening. The Opening will consiste of Video and a Live reveal of the Delorean on stage - out of which the National Sales Manager of our Client's company emerges, describing the great things he's seen in the future.
Any Suggestions?
Thank You Micajah Smithson, West Coast Projections, Inc. (858) 674-7334 unreel(AT)earthlink.net

Steep??? Run, don't walk, in the other direction. Your age & (sob) sex is against you. Your grades & driver ed are pluses. You haven't stated your driving record. If it has ANY adverse marks that is a HUGE minus. At any rate (pun not intended) check the archives for insurance posts. I have Allstate (but I'm 60 years old) & have since I bought the car about 14 years ago. Rates are about the same as our 240Z, '72 Landcruiser FJ-40, et al. I believe Allstate was in on the concept of DeLoreans being safer cars so they might give you a break. Good luck!

I was wondering if anyone has or uses a dash cover, (I don't know the exact term for them). It's those cloth covers that cover the dash. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any place or company that made one that custom fix the Delorean dash? If so, where could I get one at and how about how much are them? A little preventative medicine can't hurt, my dash is 'perfect' and I just don't want any cracks or anything to happen to it. thanks in advance !! James vin 15314

The car wasn't built in April, the door was built in April. With a new assembly line, it is not difficult to fathom that a door could be assembled and then left sitting around for 8 weeks waiting for a car to hang it on.

If you had caught me a week ago, I still had one. I threw it off when I got the car. Other than that, I believe Dash-Matt makes them, their number is 18003255628, it's the g-800.

Mike, I don't think you understand what I am trying to explain here....What I am trying to understand here is that the door could have possibly been made on April 29, 1981 i honestly don't know all I know about the door is that they door itself has a magic marker date which was May 31, 1981, but how could they adjust the door locks when the door wasn't installed on the car yet? How would they possibly know what the setting would be until it is actually on the car to test out the rod adjustments? The paper I found in the door has a pen marking in blue on the photocopy showing that they did the door lock adjustment for my car on April 29, 1981, which doesn't make sense because the car wasn't built until June 1981. Could this be another DeLorean Motor Company mystery to go along with the rest? Any ideas?

Nick,
When the frame for your car, vin# 1852, started its run down the frame line a pair of doors would have started down the door trim line. Like wise at some point the engine destined for vin # 1852 would begin its trip down the motor line, being dressed for installation in the frame for vin # 1852. There would have to have been a marriage point where the dressed frame with it's engine and body installed met up with the doors. Your car is a fairly early vin # so maybe some of the assembly process wasn't quite up to speed and maybe the door came from a pre-built supply of doors or perhaps there was a problem with one of your doors somewhere between the factory and the Quality Assurance center that required a different door to be installed. Actually the DeLorean assembly process was quite simple to schedule because they were all alike. When you have many options and colors, getting the right fender, door, seat, wheel, tire, engine and so on to meet the right chassis at the marriage point is a bit more complicated than was the case with the DeLorean.

I didn't know a post style CD player existed, I don't think there is enough room for a CD to fit in the existing hole in the dash. I went a different route, I purchased a Sony DIN style (chassis mount) CD player from Best Buy and did the custom instillation myself. This does require cutting of the dash (so much for original), I went for better sound and a functional radio. If any one wants the old original Craig radio they can have it for shipping, it all works accept the ribbon cable broke to the display from the tape door opening up so much. I bought speakers from Best Buy too, the rear is a 4"X10" odd ball speaker but they had two brands in stock, the Pioneer sound better. They are kind of spendy, $89 a pair, almost as much as the CD player $149. The front speakers I had to hunt for, three and a half inch are popular but you have to find a set that does not have tweeters protruding above the mounting points. The old style flush mounted under the dash so I went with a one way Alpine and they fit nicely in the stock locations, stock wiring plugged right up. The rear mounted the same but the magnets were a little smaller and I had to tighten the hose clamp a little tighter. (you'll see when you have it apart) I cut the dash with a pencil grinder an a tiny cutoff wheel, you will have to cut to the bottom of the metal flange above the heater controls to make it fit, the plastic bezel for the radio will hit the vents otherwise. The large hole I cut in the dash makes it much easier to hook up the rubber vent boots upon reassembly. The four speakers sound fine but I gotta have low end so my plans over Christmas are to add a subwoofer to the locking cubby behind the drivers seat, I have seen kits for this but I will make my own. I wrote kind of spratic so if I left something out you wanted to know just tell me, I can also send pics of my installation if you want, but it I will not be able to until next year. Happy install. Sorry to those who strive to keep their cars original, I just can't handle a tape deck. -----Original Message----- From: saintern <saintern(AT)peri.com> To: dmcnews(AT)egroups.com <dmcnews(AT)egroups.com> Date: Wednesday, December 22, 1999 5:03 PM Subject: [DML] cd player?

Nick,
Perhaps I don't understand what you are trying to explain either. It's entirely conceivable to me that your door was built and the rods adjusted on it 2 months prior to your car being released from the factory. Our assembly department routinely assembles kits from parts made at different times, sometimes years apart. Generally items are produced, QC'd and stockpiled for later use in a larger assembly. What would seem weird to me, would be an April build car that used parts built in June. I really don't think it's much of a mystery. Probably, your door was assembled in April, QC'd in May, and installed on the car in June.

Actually lets admit it folks The DeLorean, from a business point of view, was a very bad idea. My research on the car, as Preston Tucker will attest, was doomed from the start. As soon as The "D" started competing with the Corvette, General Motors put the muscle on the English Government and who can fight that kind of power? I wonder what kind of political intervention was also exercised??? From what I understand JZD had little political backing, an absolute necessity in an enterprise as grandiose as the DeLorean. My 2 Cents worth (A 2 on the Probability chart that this will get by the moderators)
