I just wanted to thank everybody for helping me out with my De Lorean
this year....the year I purchased it. Being a De Lorean enthusiast for
many many years and finally getting one was the greatest!!!! plus being
only 19. I couldn't have done it without each and every one of you who
has replied to my constant questions. I know I ask lots of
questions...but I love to know stuff about this fasinating car. My De
Lorean thanks your, and I thank you. I look forward to meeting many of
you at DMC 2000. Look for the De Lorean with the license plate....EGGS
D. Have a great Christmas! Also, thank you moderators for doing such
a great job this year!!!

I have good news to report to everyone here! Not one, not two, but
three streets here in the Las Vegas Valley area have finally paid a
tribute to our great cars, and maybe even the man! The streets here
are as follows, "DeLorean Circle", "DeLorean Drive", and "Gullwing
Lane". Next year when the DeLorean Expo 2000 arrives, this may be a
great opprotunity for a photo shoot! (Note: "DeLorean Circle" is a
small Cul-de-Sac, while both DeLorean Drive & Gullwing Lane are both
longer streets) I'll post the links to the maps down below, or if you
like, do the following: 1. Go to Yahoo.com. 2. Click on Maps. 3. Type
in "DeLorean Gullwing as the Cross Street, and North Las Vegas as the
city. 4. Click "Get Map". This will take you to "DeLorean Dirve" and
"Gullwing Lane" (the 2 streets practitly cross each other!). "DeLorean
Circle" is located within the City of Las Vegas, and is loacted near
Alexander Rd. & Rainbow Blvd (if you scroll around on the Yahoo map you
can find it, but it keeps refusing to take you there directly). Any
questions, or if you would like driving directions let me know. As soon
as I can, I'll get photos for everyone!
Drive Stainless, Drive Proud, Just Drive!

Hey, don't make fun of selling off collections to pay for a DMC. I have
a attic full of Animation Art, old Star Trek toys, movie props etc that
I have collected since I was 6 years old (I'm 38 now) I have placed many
of these items on ebay and have made a couple of thousand dollars! I
was then able to take my car to Rob's this past summer and had a
butt-load of work done on it......my collection is providing me with the
money to keep my DeLorean in great condition. I have more fun with the
car than all the thousands of items in my attic! Whatever you can sell
to maintain your dream...go for it

Rich,
I'd be more inclined to suspect ignition problems. Look at the resisitor
mounted on the upper left side of the firewall in the engine compartment.
make sure all the connections are clean and not corroded. Also look at the
wires and make sure that they are solidly attached to the connector plugs.

Hello List,
Today I checked to see if the black paint would come off of my car. I
was suprised at how easy it came off with a little paint stripper. The black
paint comes off fast but the white primer takes a little more time. If I
used a wire brush with the copper bristles it comes off very easy and doesnt
seem to harm the stainless. Is there any reason I shouldnt use a wire brush?
If anyone on the list has any information on striping a car please contact
me. oh, and can you strip the fascias and just leave them non-painted? I
like the color they are naturally. I have only tested a dented panel so far
and would like to learn more before I go any further.
Thanks in advance,
David,

Hello Guss,
Before you beat your self up over being an e-bay or distant buyer..........consider
how I got my pride and joy..."Rumbles"
I was flying back to the US from Japan on business (14 hour flight) and saw an exotic
car add in one of those inflight magazines. yep there was a DMC listed. After contacting the place I got a video with sound, the complete history before ZI decided to purchased it.
It cost $1200 to ship it from Florida where it was to California where I live.
After it arrived it had all the long stored car problems. I had to replace the Fuel pump, all break lines, clutch line and both master and slave cylinder. Water pump, head gaskets, Both rear break assemblies (rusted beyond repair) 5 angle drives, Rear light circuit boards, Install A bunch of Zillas, New Louver and new windshield. Bunch of relays, seat covers, w/ shield wipers, all 4 tires.
Give or take some change spent $5K at a bear minimum. Your chance was no more or less than most of us spend in getting a new car current.. I had no Idea about the DML, DOA, or any of the companies that provide us with service and parts. I just wanted the car as a recreational diversion. You never know when buying at a distance what you will get. I am sure that were I to sell my DMC I would say about it about the same as was said when I purchased it.
Good luck with your choice!
Lee

Hi Jim,
There are two wire harness connectors that may be giving you this problem.
One is behind the front grill, the black grill part with the DMC logo on it,
the second is inside the windshield washer fluid bottle cover inside the
left front wheel well. Pull these two connectors apart and liberly apply
WD40 to the insides and plug and unplug them several times. I don't remember
where the grounding point is for that harness, see if you can trace a black
wire to the frame somewhere and clean any corrosion there.

Hi Dave,
I'm sure you will get plenty of replies to your questions. The important thing to
remember is why was the car painted in the first place. The usual answer is
because it was in an accident and body putty was used in the repair work. Do you
know the history of the car? If the left front fender has been damaged going
prices for a replacement are $3,000 to $5,000. If the car was just painted
because the owner wanted it painted you are in luck.
The plastic facias are naturally black and very ugly without paint.
I understand PJ Grady has a drill attachment you can buy to restore the grain
back to the bare stainless when you are done stipping the paint, check with him,
he can be very helpful. I would not use a steel wire brush, the steel from the
brush will imbed into the stainless and cause rust spots later on.

You can get stainless bristle wire brushes but you really have to be gentle
with them. Different size razor blades worked well for me, but again be
gentle. I left my facias black.

Recently, while in Baltimore Washington area I was able to view 2 DeLoreans,
both were nice, both were seen on the Internet. While the Internet has
actually lowered the price of a "D" making the supply more accessable, in the
long run it will increase the demand. Now as you might have guessed I'm an
economist and as usual there is a 50/50 chance of this being posted, But I
say Yeah For The Internet Ebay and the rest!!!

Hi, my D is red, and I was wondering if there is any way to test the
panels (other than by their sound when knocked on, or visually :), to
see if any work has been done to them. I'm going to be stripping the
paint this summer I believe, but if there is a bad fender or something,
I might not be able to do this. How long does it take to strip the
paint Could someone also forward the information on the best way to
strip it please? Thanks,
Mike Schaefer

I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago. I traced it down to
oxidized contacts on the base of the bright /dim switch on the steering
column. I just cleaned the contacts and things started working again.
