The first seven were modified in Time Travel regalia and/or cut up for use as camera cars-- interior shots of the dash, shots of the driver, etc. Some of the 'cuttings' were used in the final DeLorean scene in III-- look carefully, some parts are gray and some are black, according to some sharp-eyed movie fans I ran across a few years back on a Dallas BTTF BBS. From the same group I got an interesting story on the '88 MPH' theme-- Much of the dialog was shot while the car was being prepared and models made (some incredibly detailed models were made by Industrial Light and Magic) .References to the 88 MPH were already filmed before anyone noticed that the speedometer only went to 85, so the producers arranged to have the speedo reworked to show 88 a little above midrange, which was applied to only one of the cars. During editing, it was noticed that one or two shots still had the old scale in the background, so they re-shot the scenes in the interest of historical accuracy, moving the guage binnacle between 3 different cars to get all the scenes right, only to have most of the scenes where the old speed could be seen cut in the final edit, anyway... > Another reader asked... > ...does anyone know of a replacement for the front brake > rotors? Since DeLorean One claimed to have had more rotors made, I assume that they were specials. Anyone?? Mark Hershey specres(AT)onramp.net All lines busy....Please hold. I can just imagine a group of protestors chaining themselves to a movie >lot gate chanting "Save the DeLoreans!" ;) From our sources, we've been told that a total of nine DeLoreans were used in the making of all three "Back to the Future" films. This does not include the cars used to make the film portion of "Back to the Future...The Ride" or the actual hydraulic cars that you ride in (a total of 48 from both parks), or the four cars Universal commisioned to be built in 1993 to take on road tours. There's at least a fleet of 14 actual DeLoreans modified into time machines out there that Universal had built. It was announced last week that Universal Studios is openning a third themepark in Japan in the year 2001, and "Back to the Future...The Ride" will be one of the prominent attractions to open there. >I lost about 90% of my _ENTIRE_ DeLorean collection. I would be totaly crushed if that happened to me. Just how rare and expnsive? Because I think that I have a couple of those filed away somewhere. I also have the larger brochure. All are in good condition. I also (somewhere) have the original window sticker from the car which explained the features of the car, gas milage, and original sale price ( I think this was around 26.000). It is torn if I remember, would that be worth anything? I'll check my inventory to see what else I have and get back to you. It's almost loosing them. You need to press the paddle all the way to the bottom and it still doesn't break. Forget an emergency stop at the moment, the only way it'll come to a abrupt stop is against an object. Anyone any ideas? When you're going to any garage with a car like this, it's like asking "please rip me off". This way at least I can come prepared. I hope. Another thing I experienced recently. I nearly burnt my finger. You know the center console where the fan controls are. Just underneath the radio. It's getting very hot just on that spot above the control knod, just on the right side under the radio. Anyone knows whats behind it? I read that more people had problems with their airco system. I've got a new problem: Sometimes it'll work, sometimes it doesn't. And I have the same problem in the middle fan louvres. No AIR, no matter what position the controls are in. I'll try some of the suggestions mentioned in other news bulletins. About the Stainless Steel Illusions. Does anyone have a copy for sale, let me know. I have a whole bunch (i.e. four) of "Back to the Future" Micro Machines (c)(r). I have a DeLorean, two futuristic police cars, and a futuristic taxi cab. Keep an eye out for these, though I doubt you'll find them. I got them at Toys R Us two years ago, but they may have some in back stock or something. I would imagine that they're collector's items. I also found a whole bunch of "Back to the Future: The Cartoon" toys and a "Back to the Future 2 & 3" Nintendo game. Keep an eye out. Also, does anyone know where I can get a DeLorean model? I've looked all over for one. I'm looking for either a plain one or a "Doc Brown modified" one. Have fun looking for all this cool merchandise. --Cole Stinnette-- Subject: Dealerships Sent: 02/13 2:21 PM Received: 02/13 2:49 PM From: Matthew Peak, mpeak(AT)ucla.edu To: dmcnews, dmcnews(AT)goodnet.com I would just like to say to anyone that is considering selling their Delorean that please, if there is any way around it, do not sell it or trade it in to a dealership. I am saying this for a couple of reasons. The main reason being that car salesman are ignorant about Deloreans. When buying a used Delorean from a dealership, you are learning nothing about the history of the car, the way it was treated, driven, etc. In a car that depends so much on networking and owner solidarity in order to fully appreciate and care for the car, dealerships are an unnecessary component. Also, when selling or trading your Delorean into a dealership, chances are your not going to receive the value of the car and when the car is sold off the lot to the next owner, it is highly overpriced. Although not an owner (but I'm saving and plan to be by the end of the year), I believe this car should be treated somewhat like an heirloom, passed on from owner to owner with care, instructions, and inside tips. E-mail me back with your thoughts.
