Effective immediately Specialty Automotive in Washington State will be
temporarily closed for business. We expect this to last about 30 days,
and will let everyone know when we are back, possibly in a new location.
In the mean time, please patronize one of the following top quality
sources: DeLorean Motor Center; Swedish Autoservice; P.J. Grady;
Pittman DeLorean Parts; or Campbell's Auto Sport. Thank you for your
patience.
And in response to some recent questions: There is a gentleman in New
York who regularly races his DeLorean. There is another in the Seattle
area transforming a wrecked one into a convertible.
Please DO NOT respond to this e-mail address. You can contact me at
P.O. Box 11323, Olympia, WA 98508.

Hello All,
I would like to Thank "All of You" for your valued information that you
have posted here and elsewhere.
In particular:
Dave Takeuchi, whom I never met, but whose DeLorean Home Page has
been an
inspiration and a valuable resource of information.
James Espey, whom I've also never met, though these pages have been
an
invaluable resource in compiling my DMC-12 checklist.
Andy Levitt, I've recently met across the telephone lines and through
email correspondence. His DeLorean experiences have helped immensely.
If you would like to check out my adventure and new addition point to->

The center console heating problem is a result of the illumination
lights behind the panel which are on even when your lights are not.
A simple work-around to have the illumination lights come on only
when you have your lights on will help preserve your dash as well as
your radio which tends to get a bit cooked from the heat. I don't
have the mod handy, but if you are interested, let me know and I
will send you more detailed info on the required modification.

The illumination behind the panel is on ALL the time the key is turned
on. Makes it very hot and has been linked to pre-mature radio failure
(particularly in the Craig radioson the 81's). There is a fix for this,
which involves removing relay from behind the passenger seat and
inserting a wire jumper in its place. This will make the lights come on
ONLY when the parking or headlights are on. A much better scenario. This
modification is completely reversible and is outlined step by step in the
November 13, 1995 back issue of the DeLorean Mailing List which is
avaiable from the DeLorean Mailing List web page at:

Good luck!

I've always been told that the sticker should go in the lower right hand
corner as you are sitting in the car. Therefore the passenger side. Many
states (Missouri, for one) have annual vehicle inspection stickers that
are to placed in the lower left hand (or drivers side) windshield.
Generally when someone says left or right side of a car, its when you're
sitting in it (i.e right-hand drive vs. left-hand drive).

Sounds like it *might* be the master cylinder. I don't have a DeLorean,
so
this isn't based on experience with one, but I have had brakes go out on
me
for different reasons on a couple of different card over the years, and it
sounds like that might be it.
It could be also be a brake line. Does the pedal ALWAYS act the same way,
no matter how hard you push it or whether you push it all the way in, or
halfway - wait - and then press it more, etc.?
Hope that helps...
>like asking
>"please rip me off". This way at least I can come prepared. I hope.
This has been a concern of mine: getting a DeLorean and finding that shops
will automatically assume I have enough money to pay for that "extra
special care". Even though the entire machine is built around standard
parts. Have any of you noticed any bias from mechanics or shops in
general?

I have a question for all the DeLorean owners out there, what do you use
your
car for. I'm considering buying one and was wondering if you just let
them
sit in your garage or if you actually drive them to work and around town.
Also, does anyone know what a DeLorean in good (not excellent) condition
is
going to run in price?
About the body, a friend of mine thinks that the stainless steel body will
become pitted if it comes in contact with our atmosphere. Is there truth
to
this?
Thanks a lot!

hello everyone! I am a new member, as of 2 days ago and I'd like to tell
you a few things about myself...I am a 20 year old college student in
western Maryland. I have been in love with the Delorean ever since I saw
it roll out of the back of the trailer, exhaust rumbling and turbo's
whining, in back to the future in 1985...from there the obsession
started! I plan on buying one as soon as I can...being a college
student the money is tight and no bank will give me the 15,000 loan
to buy my dream car. But I bide my time. I joined this mailing list,
to gain more information, and to fraternize and offer help to my fellow
enthusists; I have memorized teh Delorean FAQ; I plan on becomeing a
member of the Delorean owers-enthusiast club (60 bucks is a lot of dough
when your in college :-) ) and I have aquired John Z's home phone
number...I have yet to muster the guts to call him...
BTW, I have been reading the back issues of this list, and I
recall someone saying somthing about the 24K gold Delorean in Hancock
Maryland...thats about 30 minutes from where I am at school! If anyone
knows the exact location, I would be glad to visit the house, and take
photos of the Delorean for you guys!
In closeing I would like to know if any of you guys (or ladies)
have any shop manuals, or parts lists, or any other cool stuff of intrest
or use to a future Delorean owner? I would like to purchase them...
I would also like to be informed of any Delorean sales in the Md, VA,
Pa, or surrounding areas...Thank you all...I look forward to getting
to know you all...
Your Friend in Time,
Rick Woolford...net-friends call me MacLeod.

First off, sorry to anyone who's been trying to get ahold of me.
Server problems along with water problems here in washington have been
keeping me from my mail.
Secondly, as to locking keys in the car.
I'll tell you something. I recall one day dropping my car off at
my trusted auto mechanics and leaving them payment along with a note
asking
them to lock the keys in the car and I'd pick it up after hours.
Later that day it hit me when I had done and I rushed over to the
auto place as fast as possible and was able to get there before they had
locked up. I was a bit late, and quite frankly in awe inthe fact that
they
had no problem locking my keys in the car.
When asked..."I put your keys under the floormat and hit the lock
button."
!!!...Well, no harm came of it, but I'm still amazed they were able
to do it, and without harming my lock solenoids.

David,
We have put Yoko AVS intermediates on the big D - and they are great. Far
better than those pieces of rubber that came with the car. I have used
Yokos on a number of cars, and they are always terrific. It is hard to
put
a car into a situation where those tires won't stick. If you are in
Sothern
California, or have a phone handy, I can also give you a name of a GREAT
tire and wheel shop. They alwyas have the best prices and customer
support.
My family has gone to this guy for about 10 years. (No, I am not
connected
to the shop - hence no names given here!)

B F Goodrich has a COMP T/A - VR4 tire that is made in both the original
front and rear sizes. I put a new set on last year and am very pleased
with
them. They are very close to the original NTC tires in width and diameter
and
thus don't cause any problems with rubbing or spedo error and at the same
time offer superior performance.

I've been running with Yokohama AVS Intermediate tires and find them a
good all around performance tire. They're reasonably good in the wet and
greatlyenhance the all around handling. I found a shop that trued the front
tires onthe car and balanced all four, also on the car. I never could completly
eliminate the out of balance feel from the front tires, which translated
through the steering wheel, untill I had the tires trued. I belive the
DeLorean rims may be a bit difficult for getting the tire to bead properly
and by truing them after mounting I was assured they were round. My car
now rolls as though it's on glass.
