Hello everybody,

I am searching for my Delorean a part of the speedometer. It is the transmission
that goes through the left front wheel. It is difficult to get it here but somebody
told me that the same part was used by Ford.

Can anybody tell me in which type Ford ?

Thank you for the help en greetings.

What ever happend to the DMC model that was to have been built for a few of us
who placed orders, I believe they were placed with 'Jory". Anyone heard anything
about a delivery date?

Jason, if all else fails, there were some previous comments about your ground
cable to the chasis being corroded. This had caused starting problems when
engine is at operating temp. Using jumper cables, it would start ok.

Well friends,

we just received some free air time. I was watching the Miss USA pagent with my
wife (we were also taping it). The pagent was held in New Orleans. During the
last 5 minutes of the show, they showed one of the delegates sitting in the
driver's seat of, you guessed it, a D. It was painted fire engine red, and was
located in an Antique Auto place. The view showed only the drivers side (door
open). Only an enthusist would be able to recognize it from the 3 second clip.
When I exclaimed my recognition of the
beauty, my wife rolled her eyes with an "oh brother" expression. Don't worry,
I get her in line yet.

Actually it's a Lucas part. I'm not sure which British car it's from but I seem
to remember hearing MG. In any event it needs to be modified so why not
just order on from one of the DeLorean shops in the U.S. The price will
ultimately end up the same and you won't have to be concerned with doing the
modification.

Someone asked about the DeLorean models that were supposed to be built - below
is the last message that was posted to the list on this subject from
the person who was in contact with the model manufacturer. A quick check at the
subscriber lists shows that Rob is still subscribed to the list, but he hasn't
posted much lately. Anyone know him so we can get some current information on
the subject?

The last time I talked to the model builder, he said he'd be busy with two other
projects (turning a long-bed model into a short bed and something else) until
late September or early November. Looks like it's about time to call him again.
I might just do it differently now as my financial situation has changed somewhat.
I might just order them all myself and then re-sell them to the people on the
list. Don't worry, I won't jack the price up except to cover delivery costs. Of
course, I'll have to pay for the real DeLorean I'll have to buy to deliver the
models in! ;) Just kidding. I'll call him and see if he's done with his other

RE: CO readings;
While I was in Ohio I had my local mechanics adjust the CO level as low as it
would go with their exhaust sniffer. I immediately went to the emmissions
facility and flunked. I returned to the shop and was retested to the same low
reading..no other adjustments made. I returned and failed again! The next time
while the "sniffer" was still in the exhaust, I replaced the CO plug covering
the adjustment hole and the readings shot up. Needless to say, I left the plug
off and returned to the emmissions facility where I passed! Try it.
I also do not have a catalytic converter. My car belonged to Mark DeLorean who ,
besides custom painting it, put on twin IHI turbos. They DO make a difference,
especially on a 3rd gear launch at 65 MPH. I have handily dispatched 5.0L
Mustangs, M3 Beemers , Vettes, etc. The only thing I wish it had is a pair of
intercoolers. I had it out on a cold dry day and the acceleration was phenominal...
exited a normal acceleration ramp at over 100 MPH!
The great thing about the D is nobody knows what's coming up behind them so they
get out of the way to take a look. Some of these owners who don't drive their
cars are missing a lot! Our Club will be in the Chicago St. Patrics day parade...
the ONLY autos they have ever allowed in the parade. Plus, we're televised. Can't
wait for spring!!

SNIP

The DeLorean dash was designed for a three hole radio cut out, which was the
standard of the early 80's, so even getting a standard DIN sized unit to fit
will take a bit of *careful* cutting. Any good car stereo shop should be able
to do it. As for installing a two DIN unit, the only way that would be
possible is to remove the HVAC vents above the radio and re-doing the ducting
behind them. However, given the DeLorean's small interior and even
smaller side windows, this is not a good idea! Your best bet would be to
install a single DIN sized head unit in the factory radio location and then
install an outboard equalizer elsewhere.

By mistake the other day I discovered a neat little piece about my car that I
had not known before. The whole unite of the power mirrors on both sides of
the DeLorean rotate forward and backward. I suppose this is to help protect
them from being sheared off if hit by other objects when driving or operning
the doors. I doubt it has any real aerodynamic value.

Since then I have been checking out the mirrors on others brands of cars and
so far have only seen one car that had appeared to have "break-away" mirrors.

Just a little bit of info I thought I would share.

Contact Jerry Rine at KAPAC in Ohio. Give him your car's maufacturer date and
VIN#. He can check the key code for your particular DeLorean (providing the
cylinder hasn't been replaced in the past). You MIGHT luck out and he'll still
have an original pre-cut key lying around the warehouse. I know he still has a

Subject: Power window switch covers

Some of you may recall my earlier postings about the FANTASTIC power window switch
covers sold by PJ Grady. IMO, this is the greatest DeLorean product since the
aluminum coolant overflow bottles. They are that good. If the arrows have worn
off your switches, making a stark contrast to your defrost switch, DON'T BUY NEW
SWITCHES!

You start by popping off the covers on your window switches, you can leave the
switch itself in place and the windows are still operable without the covers.
Package up the covers securely and send them to Rob at PJ Grady in New York (I
sent mine insured, 'cause I'm paranoid of the post office).

Rob will expertly remove what's left of the arrows without affecting the texture
or damaging the switch cover and then apply new arrows (that look EXACTLY like
the old) and also apply a clear coating that will protect them to keep the
problem from re-occurring. He'll charge $25.00 plus shipping to your credit
card and send them back to you. You'll put them on and be amazed at the
difference it makes to the interior of your car.

Definitely a candidate for "Best New DeLorean Product of 1997".

I have starting problems with mine too. It is totally unpredictable. You never
know if it will just start up, or take about 5-10 tries. This car has
13,900 miles and has not been driven much, but I drove it 1,800 miles from where
I bought it. I have just had it about 3 weeks. It had 10,000 miles on
it back in '85 so it was only driven 2,000 miles over a 12 year period. It
is imbarrasing and annoying when people stare at you and kind of laugh. Tell
me what you think.

You guys will love this. Yesterday, while driving my Delo, I was stopped by

DMC look alike, as the real DMC 12 was a front engine, 351 Ford powered vehicle.
Great look alike, but not the real thing. No matter how much I tried to convince
them they were wrong it was like talking to a brick wall. I
even tried to jog their memory alittle by bringing up the Bricklin, but they
still did not believe me. And this whole time I thought I knew my vehicle,
I'm so embarassed that I was ripped off when I bought it. BILL

You are not the only one to have such an experience.

First, the number of people who think there is a Ford engine in the car is truly
astounding. Then, early on I, too, was approached by some "car people" who wanted
to look at my car. When I popped the engine cover they thought I had been very

The February issue of Hemmings has an abundance of DeLoreans for sale - I counted
21 different cars for sale, ranging from $9998 up to $31,500 - something for
almost every budget, it would seem.

Another ad that I thought was interesting was in the "D" Wanted section...

Now, when I was in high school, my brother and I rebuilt a '54 Ford pickup and
we bought A LOT of repro parts from Dennis Carpenter. Could this indicate that
someone else may be entering the reproduction Delorean parts business? Or does
Mr. Carpenter just own a DeLorean and need a part?

Subject: Yet another accident :(

Hi all,
For the second time in three months, I was struck from behind by a driver who
admitted not paying attention to the road. I won't rant about NJ drivers in this
post.
In any case, I was hit at about 30 MPH while stopped dead on Rt. 22 waiting for
westbound traffic to lighten up so I can merge with it. The rear end was split,
the muffler was of course crushed, the alternator was destroyed, and God knows
what else.
Rob Grady has a 6 month backlog so I'm having a local mechanic work on it, but
he'll be getting parts from Rob.
So in 14 years of driving, I've gotten rear-ended twice, and both times in the
DeLorean. I have no way to determine how 'safe' the car is against other cars,
but my injuries aren't severe. I did get whiplash (grrr) but it doesn't seem
serious at this point. I did have my seatbelt on.
I can't tell how badly the frame was hurt (if at all). I'm definitely looking
into a new route to work.

Mike

Subject: How common are DeLorean accidents?

Sorry to hear about your accident, Michael. I hope your whiplash is minor. Good
luck with the repairs. BTW Kapac still has brand new rear stainless panels in stock.

Your story flies in the face of a theory I had about the DeLorean being extra
safe from accidents due to its attention getting ability. I hypothesized that
it would be LESS likely for other drivers to rear-end a DeLorean because the
stunning stainless beauty would be more likely to attract their attention than
mundane cars.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

If some of us are interested, we could do an informal survey to find out.

To participate, give the approximate number of miles you have driven your
DeLorean since you have owned it, and the approximate number of miles you
have driven other cars in the same period. Then give the number of accidents
that were NOT your fault for each. Here's my data for the past three years:

Approx Miles I've driven	Times I've been hit
DeLorean	20,000	0
Other cars*	35,000	0

* incl vans, pickups, SUVs, motorcycles, etc.

Obviously our sample needs lots of total miles in it to get a feel for the
difference between DeLoreans and other cars.

You can just send them directly to me if you don't want the world to know
about your misfortune. Assuming I get a good sample size I will post the
total results (no names) in a week or so. Otherwise I will cut it off
mid-March and post whatever I've got then.
