I'm not sure if I should put this up on here or not, so, I'm sorry if anybody gets mad. I have an DMC hotwheel/matchbox type car that I've had since I was a kid. It's body is silver and the base is black. The doors gullwing up just like on the real car. It's in c-9 shape and I'm looking to sell it. If anybody is looking for something like this, let me know. The goo is probably what is left of your master cylinder seals. If they are indeed gone, that explains why the reservoir is leaking.

I saw a DeLorean at a Chriceler<sp> lot for 32k and when I went back the next day it was gone. I talked to the manger of the lot and he said that he sold it to a guy that was following the truck that it was on and when the truck stoped at the lot the man went in right-a-way and bought the car! (it was an 83 in mint-condition never ran, the manger said it came from a car muesume<sp> and runs great!)

I don't know if you were aware of this, but I was watching a late
80's movie called "Fraternity Vacation" and I saw a Delorean for about 5
seconds! It is a VERY cheesy comedy starring Tim Robbins and some other
unknowns. It appears towards the end of the movie while the main
characters are driving by in their BMW. You see a front shot with the
DMC logo clearly showing!! Check it out!!

Wouldn't the DMC Font/Typeface be a trademark of DeLorean Motor Company (Houston)? Due to the fact that DMC is now back in business and that you have to get permission from them to use the DMC logo or DeLorean lettering?

Very last Delorean ever built was actually 20105. This was a gold plated one that was used for promotional use by Consolidated. 20104 was the last stainless made but it was never put up for sale. The owner of Consolidated kept it for himself. 20103 was the last one made that was put up for sale. Current owner is me.

No, there should be a gasket and it is made of a cheap rubber and you can find a replacement part just bring in the old gasket and compare it to what you can find (you may need to buy a large gasket and cut it, I did!) - -Drew

There were a few right hand drive deloreans built. I'm unsure of the actual amount but I do know there weren't too many. If they were right hand drive I would assume they were built for and are legal for street use in England. I hope this helps.

If you are in Germany, you should check out Christoph Witz in Switzerland. He's at a place located near Zurich and by the pictures on his page it looks like he's got a few DMC's out on his front yard for sale that look in great shape.
I have been thinking to make a trip out there sometime but so far haven't found the time to do it. Please tell us if you do any business with Christophe. I'm sure European DML'ers would be interested in knowing more about this service center.

If you say so. All I know is that I bought that automatic new and it never accelerated like a 5-speed. I would have to do a lot of research, but I seem to remember that the 5-speed had a 0 - 60 time between 9 - 10 seconds. The automatic, I thought was about 13 seconds.
Honestly, I was once timed by Turbo magazine just after I had put twin turbos on that car (done by DeLorean Motor Center). They liked the look of the set-up (I added some poslishing and chrome), the D was unique and they were looking for stories (this was before the advent of Japanese turbo set-ups that are now so popular). With the brakes on, we reved the engine until I had gone from vacuum to dead zero - just before boost - and then let off the brakes, and had the foot in the trunk. Three runs - all over 9 seconds - very close to 10 seconds. Needless to say, Turbo magazine didn't run any story about my car.
BTW, I have been busier than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs, so I haven't performed the check you suggested on my present car. I will get to it shortly and then get back to you.
Thanks

If you have a laser disc version of BTTFIII and do a frame by frame right before the train hits the car, you can actually see small explosive squibs going off before the train even hits it. This was to help facilitate a nice looking spread of the parts. I had read that the car was just a shell with no engine and no fiberglass underbody.

DeLoreans registered by the person who imports/imported them will be registered automatically by the submission of the appropriate form, as were those cars that never left the country. Those being registered by a person who did not originally import it needs to get the car Type Approved. This means the addition of foglights, sidelights and making the indicators flash as they do here - among other things.
There are a few RHD cars around in the UK and a few in Australia where LHD cars are illegal to drive. I can't remember exact figures, but there are around 20 RHD cars with some being private conversions.

Is it possible there is or was something wrong with your setup? A delorean with twin turbos regardless of whether it's a 5 speed or an automatic should have better 0-60 runs than 9 seconds. How much boost does your car run? Check for vacuum leaks.

I think the fact that he had an automatic is why his times were so high. The autos won't rev as high, thus the turbos don't really have a chance to show their stuff. Our 5-speed equiped with twin turbos almost runs along side a '97 Mustang Cobra 0-60, and by 100 the DeLorean in WAAAAYYYY ahead of the Mustang. I could imagine a DeLorean with a similar turbo set up with an automatic transmission wouldn't even run up with a 6-banger Mustang. Turbos on an automatic is almost a waste because they'll never rev high enough to use the turbos. Now, a supercharger is a different story... Anyone tried it? Is there a supercharger that could possibly fit the PRV-6? Thanks in advance!

With very nice DeLoreans going for $18-$20,000 why would anyone want to pay $8-$10,000 for a dog that requires another $12,000 to bring it into shape? ....
- ---------------------- Well, I hate to stir the pot, BUT, not all inexpensive Deloreans are dogs:
I bought my Delorean 5 years ago from the original owner in Denver. I actually was not looking for a Delorean (I have two old corvettes that kept me busy) but had called about an ad he put in the paper for a used air compressor . By the time I made it to his house he had sold the compressor but made the comment that he still had stuff that he needed to get rid of, like that old car in his garage. He said his wife told him the night before that after their third grandchild, he needed to grow up and get rid of some toys. Well, I always love reading about other peoples "treasure in the barn" stories so I decided to check it out. There sat VIN#6370, a beautifully maintained ,41,000 mile, original owner ,everything works 81 Delorean. After looking the car over we went back to the house were he pulled out a neatly organized box of records that contained ,among other things, the window sticker, bill of sale, order form, ALL maitainence records, ALL back issues of Delorean World, All back issues of De Gull Wing news letter and a complete set of manuals. He then gave me the price of 7,500. Not knowing anything about the car or its worth, I told him I would think about it. The next day, after a little research in Hemmings and a long test drive, I bought it. From the day I brought it home, this car has been driven EVERY day with terrific reliability. Over the last 5 years its needed (aside from normal maitainence) a water pump, radiator, two computer govenors, new rubber coolant and transmission hoses, metal door handles, lockzilla ,headliners ,seat covers, a freon charge and a few other misc. items (all of which I do myself). It even has the same Interstate battery (remember that thread?) that was in it when I bought it. Not bad for an 18 year old dog.

I've checked the archive, but haven't been able find a conclusive answer to this question. Here goes:
Is it possible to successfully remove DMC accent sidestripes from a vehicle that had them put on as a dealer installed option? By "successfully" I mean is it possible to remove the stripes and restore the car to its original condition (no residual traces). In the archive, someone suggested using a hair dryer to heat up the strip and then peal it off slowly. That sounds like a good idea, however I'm wondering if anyone here has performed this procedure and would care to comment on how it turned out?
Thanks!

Are you guys sure this was a real DeLorean? I can vaguely remember watching a "Making of BTTF" show on TV when I was around 10 years old and they showed the filming of the scene where the DeLorean is hit by the train, and when they zoom out it is VERY clear it is a scale model train sitting on a table hitting a tiny model DeLorean. It looked very realistic (I thought it was a real train hitting a real D before it zoomed out) and looks exactly like the scene in the movie. I can even vaguely remember them talking about all the hours it took to set up the model and get it to fly apart, and do so realistically. I may be mistaken, because I was 10 and I have no proof, but I'm just telling you what I saw. Thanks!

You are refering to the scene where the train pushes the Delorean to get it up to 88 mph so Marty can get back to 1985 near the end of the movie. That scene is shown in detail in The Secrets of Back To The Future video. Which is the behind the scenes show you saw. A highly detailed model of the Delorean and the train was used in that scene where it goes over the bridge.

Try both Teri Jennings and/or John Truscott. They have both sold these in the past.

I disagree. Yes I understand that a 5 speed can rev up and let the turbos spool but the difference betwwen the two shouldn't be that great. The car will still go thru all the gears with an automatic. Granted the launch will be better with a manual, but a twin turbo Delorean should not have 0-60 times in the nine second range even if it is an automatic. I think something may be wrong with his setup.

Hi there,
My name is Helmut Kohler. I'm looking for a DeLorean to restore.
I am looking to pay under $10,000 for the car and take the time and
enjoyment to restore it. I am looking for a 5 speed, but I will buy an
automatic for the right price. I would like for the car to be running,
but if not, that's okay too. Thank you very much for your time and
consideration!!!! You can call my business at (714)821-1844 or e-mail
me at: MrDMC12@yahoo.com Thanks again!
Sincerely,

Hi, Are there any Tampa Bay (FL) area owners on this list? I checked the owners directory and the closest one is in Miami. I am in the process of installing an engine in my D and it would really help if I could take a look at a complete car. I didn't take the engine out, so I don't know how it goes in ;o). I mean the wires, vacuum lines, fuel lines. I can't find any D's locally. If someone can help, please email me directly at: tomciodmc@usa.net Thanks,

The real problem with auto transmissions, especially 3 speeds, is that the engine spends less time near the torque peak. When you have fewer gears, there's no way around it. When the engine is running at low speeds (and in the case of the PRV also near redline), it produces less power.
At http://www.dmcnews.com/misc/rpm2mph.html there is a chart detailing the gear ratios. For a 0-60 time, we won't get out of 2nd gear (auto) or 3rd (manual).
For a good approximation, run a 0-60 in your 5-speed, but start in second gear.
Even modern, high-performance automatics cost performance. The '95 Mazda RX-7 (last model year sold in USA), for example, loses a second in its 0-60 time when equipped with the auto. And that transmission is considerably more advanced intelligence-wise than the auto trans found in the DeLorean.

I have read many posts referring to different aspects of the automatic vs. the manual tansmission. I was wondering are there any D owners on this list who have an automatic who have not experienced any problems with it? I have seen a couple D's for sale in excellent condition but after reading so many negatives about automatics I am reluctant to buy one. I understand the 5 speed is more enjoyable to drive. However if I but an wutomatic that appears to run fine are there issues with the transmission which need to be addressed even if no problems are experinced?

Tom, The black jell your talking about is grease. It is inserted between the plunger and piston to pedal action quiet and smooth . When the cylinder leaks fluid it causes the grease to ozze out.
Any competent mechanic should be able to handle a master cylinder replacement, there are no special procedures or precautions.

You're absolutely right. I just felt that a twin turbocharged Delorean even if it does have an automatic shouldn't be running such pitiful 0-60 runs. I agree with you in the fact that autos are slower. We can go on and on citing examples how automatics are slower and that many manufacturers detune engines that are equipped with automatics. However I just felt that even with an auto he should be much quicker than 9+ seconds 0-60. Just my 2 cents.
