There was a DeLorean service bulletin that detailed how to retrofit
cars with windshield antennas to the later power antenna below the
left rear air vent. The bulletin included a template for modifying
the vent grill to clear the antenna, and as I recall it showed where
to drill the mounting holes (you remove a panel in the left rear
engine compartment that holds the fuel recovery air filter thingy)
and showed whatever brackets you need. It also detailed cabling for
the antenna coax and power leads, etc.

This said, I note that your request mentions both 'electric antennar' and
'drilling body panels', which makes me think that you are under the
impression that you could add a power antenna somewhere on the body .
The Windshield antenna was briefly replaced by a non-power antenna in
the right front fender (there was a service bulletin detailing how to
add this, too), but there is no way that an electric antenna would
fit in the same spot-at least no way DeLorean ever tried, and since I
have one of these fixed-antenna cars, and have had occasion to take the
fender off,
I can't see how it could be done there, either...

Adding the rear power antenna is relatively painless, a standard
power antenna will fit, and the only drilling involves only
replaceable plastic, not any any stainless steel .
I don't have copies of these tech bulletins or I'd give you more
details, but they are available from the usual "D" service
organizations.

I ran across this while I was cleaning up my hard drive. Originally
written by Tyme Lord@aol.com, I'm afraid that I don't remember who that
person really is. I thought some of you might find it interesting...
******************
K-Pack is a company based in Ohio which purchased the contents of the
DeLorean Factory when everything was closed down. They have a warehouse
dedicated to storing all the items that were shipped to the states. I
recently visited the warehouse and was amazed at the quantity of items
they have for the DeLorean. I also found out from a reliable source that
all original parts being sold by those D1 people in Texas and California
are purchased from K-Pack and marked up various amounts.

The best piece of advice I can give to fellow DeLorean owners when
purchasing parts would be to call Jerry at K-Pack (1-800-854-6087).
Jerry is extremely helpful and knows his stuff.

*******************

I believe that K-Pack is actually Kapac, and I understand that although
the original parts sold by the D1 people may be purchased from Kapac,
they do get a discount off the price that you or I would get if we were
to call Kapac ourselves. I.E., a new rear quarter from Kapac was quoted
to me at $997, the same part was quoted to me at $949 from a major player
in the DeLorean parts biz.

"... location in body panel for drilling?" I hope you are joking! The
electric antenna goes in the drivers side rear "air scoop" behind the
quarterpanel window (in the one not used by the air intake and directly
on the opposite side of the car from it). The antenna mast comes up
between the slats in the plastic grill which has a slight cutout to
accommodate the antenna. I hope you are not planning on drilling holes
in your stainless steel panels!

I'm not sure how this installation works on the early VIN cars (with
winshield antennas) that did not have the electric antenna installation
planned. I assume you can still gain access through the panel for the
fuel accumulator (I think that's what it is) but there may not be a
cutout in the fiberglass underneath the grill for the mast to come up
through.

I was on the phone this afternoon with Tim at Swedish Autoservice
(800-350-7429) and he mentioned that he was getting in some defrost
switches and dash clocks within the next week or two. As I understand it,
these fall in the "hard-to-get" category now. Many defrost switches were
used as fan override switches in years past, and I guess the clocks are
prone to "crapping out". If you need one or both of these items, call him
now and reserve yours - and mention the DeLorean Mailing List, he's
considering joining our merry bunch and it would be to our advantage to
have him!

James

BTW, I have NO connection to Swedish except for the fact that they've
always done right by me, and I like to help those that help me.

Does anyone know of a good repair shop in southwest Florida? Or anywhere
in
FL for that matter. I've been having a terrible time with the repair shop
that I am dealing with. My DeLorean has been overheating quite a bit.

Also I have my insurance through Allstate but it is terrible expensive.
Are
there any cheaper companies out there? I am 20 yrs old which doesn't
help.

Any comments or suggestions will be much appreciated!!!!!!!!

Can someone please tell me the ways to adjust the idle speed. I cannot
find
a vacuum leak anywhere and whenever I adjust the idle speed screw, the
computer automatically compensates. The idle sticks around 1600 rpm and
will
sometimes go down to around 900 rpm when I goose the accelerator. Should
I
try and lube the accelerator cable?

My suggestion would be to install a power antenna on the driver's
rear quarter. They were original equipment on some cars and parts
are available. Best of all, you don't have to do anything to a
stainless panel to install one.

I have an 82 DeLorean that has an after-market radio on it. For
originality, I would like to put the original radio in it. I have heard
that the original radio is terrible, but I am still interested. Does
anyone
know what the original radio was (I understand later models had a
different
one than the first Craig) and where I can get one?
I also have a cracked louver support bar (little bar in the middle that
supports the louver). I have heard that this is a common problem. Are new
louvers available and about how much are they?
