--For you guys in the U.K. I noticed in my Classic Car mag an advert
to start a club for DMC.s in the U.K. only. I have sent of for details
will keep you posted if interested. In the Belfast Telegraph recently
their was a Delorean for sale, it had 1,400 miles on the clock and was
described as perfect, no mention of price though

Does anyone have any info on sealing a small water leak in the roof. We had
a huge thunderstorm here the other night and the car got caught in it for the
first time. Any help would be appreciated!

I have the same problem with a late-60's musclecar. One of the exhaust pipes
runs within about 1/4 inch of the starter and solenoid assembly. If the car
is not allowed to cool down sufficiently the overheated starter will not turn
the engine over. I would guess that a marginal starter or solenoid could
overheat in the cramped and poorly ventilated engine compartment in the D.

After reading all the dead battery solutions I felt I should add one more
thing. The easiest way to track a battery drain is to remove the ground cable
from the battery and put an ammeter between the battery's ground connection
and the ground cable you just disconnected. You will get a normal reading of
a few milliamps as the clock and maybe a few other items always draw a bit
from the battery. Any reading above that is abnormal. With the meter reading
the excess amperage draw, start pulling fuses, one at a time untill the
amperage reading drops to a normal reading of around of a few milliamps.
That last fuse pulled is the circuit the draw is comming from. Now you can
work your way through that area which isn't as overwhelming as trying to look
at the whole car. You could solder a wire to both the positive and ground
parts of a small 12 volt light bulb and use it in place of the ammeter. When
the light stops glowing you'll know you've found the right fuse.

The Solution to the "Trouble with Starting" is the ACCUMULATOR. I had
trouble starting the engine hot, and replacing the accumulator solved the
problem. Of course I had already repalced the fuel pump & pickup, and a
few other parts first that made no difference. Now I dont have a dozen
gookers staring at me in parking lots while I try for ten minutes to
start the car... it starts first crank every time! The accumulator is
mounted from under the car in the center of the frame. It keeps constant
pressure in the fuel system to prevent forms of vapor lock.

In reference to your problem starting your car, I have a Porsche 924 and a
DeLorean. Last summer the Porsche had problems starting when hot and I was
told it was a sign that the fuel pump was going bad and a vapor lock was
being created. Porsche 924s also use a Bosch K-Jetronic Fuel Injection
system like in the DeLorean.

In the case of your problem, a Tech Tip from Performance Products Porsche
parts catalog may help the investigation:

HARD STARTING WHEN HOT
"If your engine cranks for a long time before it fires up when hot, but
starts fine when it's cold, you may have a leaking check valve in the fuel
pump. In order to start immediately, fuel needs to remain in the fuel
lines. A faulty fuel pump check valve will allow the fuel to flow back into
the gas tank leaving the air in the fuel lines. When you attempt to start
the car, all the fuel lines need to be filled first to build up enough
pressure to start injecting. This takes especially long when the engine is
hot since the injection system runs leaner when hot. Find out if the fuel
pump check valve is the problem by getting someone to clamp the rubber fuel
line to stop the flow of fuel on the engine side of the fuel pump right
when you turn off the engine. Wait 20 minutes, have your friend remove the
clamp and immediately try to start your car. If it starts up right away,
it's the check valve and time for a new pump."

The Performance Products catalog (1-800-423-3173) also has a
troubleshooting section for the Bosch K-Jetronic and L-Jetronic Fuel
Injection systems. I would reprint it for everyone, however, it is
copyrighted by the Robert Bosch Corporation.

Well, I hope that helps you in your search for answers.

Ok, I need to know (1) where I can find a DeLorean Hot Wheels or model
and (2) What are some of the major problems with the car? (None I hope.)
I'm planning on buying one sometime this year as I am a true enthusiast
and I really need this information (and the Hot Wheels as well). Thanks
a lot.

I stopped by the local Toys 'r Us this evening, but did
not see what everyone has been talking about. The original

up on the thread.

Can someone post a catalog number or some such thing to
place a special order?

If your car won't start after sitting for two or three minutes and
the problem persists untill the car has enough time to thoroughly
cool off you probably have one of two problems, or both.
 1) The fuel accumulator. This thing does more than just accumulate
fuel. It usually consists ( from the outside ) of a fuel inlet ( from
the fuel pump) and an outlet ( to the engine ) on what appears to be
a fancy can. Inside is a diaphragm backed up by a spring. The spring
is compressed by pressure from the pump. When you shut off the
engine it maintains pressure in the fuel delivery system. If it
doesn't maintain pressure, the fuel in the line boils creating a
vapor lock and the car won't start till the fuel cools.
2) Check valve. This keeps the fuel accumulator from simply pushing
the fuel back into the tank .

I've not had this problem with the DMC but I did have it with a
Porsche. Extremely frustrating! Most mechanics don't have a clue
anymore.

Does anyone out there know which color wires attach to the mode switch and
what color wire to which terminal on the mode switch? Right now I connected
them as well as I could recall from memory, but only the air conditioning
positions on the switch will function. When I turn it to vent, defrost, or
heater, the fan shuts off. Also, does anyone know of a way to keep the angle
drive hub cup from coming off? Mine keeps popping out and I'm at wit's end
trying to keep it in the wheel center. The speedometer does work when the
cup is in place. BTW, it's a new angle drive and new plastic cup.

Howdy all, just got back from the Barrett-Jackson Classic Auto Auction out
here in Phoenix. Much to my delight, a Delorean was coming up on the
auction block, and was sitting in line waiting. Interestingly enought, the
Delorean was a Preproduction model that had never been driven on the road
(according to the info in the window).

Unfortunately, I only had a small time to look it over, plus it was late at
night, with poor lighting. However, the few details I picked out might be
of interest to others, so here is what I noticed;

81 style fuel door.
No rear louvre assembly over engine decklid.
Engine decklid styling very bland.
Completely different front grill, very minimalistic, no DMC emblem.
Same treatment on the rear area.
Stainless seemed a bit subpar for not being driven on the road.
Slider windows on drivers and passengers side, no power windows.

I wasn't allowed to peruse the interior, so I can't comment on that. Over
all the car was a nice representative of it's carline, however, I've seen
far nicer exteriors. I guess that this is understandable considering the
fact that it is a preproduction.

Now for those of you who are dying to know how much it sold for... It had
no reserve, a received a $10,000 bid immediately. Bumped up to $15,000 and
held there briefly, and by $1000 increments it finally sold for an even
Twenty thousand dollars.

For the quality of the car it went a bit high. However, since it was a one
of a kind car, I guess the price may have been a bargain. Any knowledgable
people out there have any insights to what this car may really be worth?

BTW - if you ever have the chance to be in Phoenix in Jan. when the auction
is held, it's an unbelievable event. The number of classics is mind
boggling. Some selling for Millions of dollars. The money really roars at
places like this.

Enjoy all
Mark

You said something about a DMC 12 model... I wanted to know if this is a
plastic model that you put together or a die-cast model???

Thanks,
