Because of its design, with the water troughs that run around the
outside of the door seals, water leaks in the roof around the doors is
usually not a problem. The most common source of water leaks I have
seen (on several cars) is due to the headliner material not being
properly trimmed. The material on many cars is folded over the sealing
lip and held in place with the door seal. If the material is too long
it will extend into the water tray on the other side of the door seal
and will "wick" water into the headliner of the car leaving an
unsigntly water spot. The cure is to ensure that the material is
trimmed properly so that it does not come in contact with the water
that will be in the area immediately around the outside of the seals.

Mine is "AT88MPH" (I wanted OUTATIME too, but California license
plates only allow 7 digits).

In my opinion the most important thing to check is the frame. You can
replace a bad engine, trans, or body panels relatively easily, but if the
frame is in bad shape, your in for a lot of expense.

I have seen several cars with bad frames and have read about many,
including my original frame that broke while being driven. As a result,
my company designed the Stainless Steel replacement. We have a brochure
which explains the new frame as well as the areas to check on your car.
Please let me know if you would like me to send one out to you.

Arizona limits personalized license plates to a combination of just six lettters and or numbers, so I was even more limited than the folks in California - but I always remembered a letter to the editor of Car and Driver magazine shortly after the failure of the DeLorean Motor Company. A reader wrote in to ask how to properly pronouce DeLorean, do you say DE-lorean or Duh-lorean? Regular readers of the letters section in Car and Driver know that Ed. has an inimitable wit ;), and Ed.'s reponse was "The proper pronounciation is de-funct."

My Arizona license plate says DFUNCT.

I am afraid that I will not be much help here, although my DeLorean has had
a similar problem since I purchased it late last year. My AC works,
however, none of the heat modes function in the least bit. There also was a
hissing noise coming from the center console area while the car ran and for
30 seconds or so after shutting it off.

If you hear a similar sound then you may have a vacuum leak somewhere
within the ventilation system or the engine compartment as I am told they
are interconnected. Evidently without a good vacuum system, the heater is
unable to open up the vents inside the car.

The heater fan motor itself is a GM part, although, when I called a local
Chevrolet dealer to check about obtaining the part they told me it did not
exist under cross-reference numbers Delco 4985-86127 or 15-895. I obtained
these numbers from a Parts Interchange List that came with my car. It was
compiled by the Southeastern Region DeLorean Auto Club and the Tri-State
DeLorean Owners' Club.

Good luck!! Sorry I could not be more helpful.

yes, wrap a piece of electrical tape around it and stuff it back in
the hub. (be sure to align the speedo-drive shaft first.)

Does anybody out there have or know of where I can obtain a new or used A/C
mode switch? I've tried just about everywhere and have been told that it is
unobtainable. No, mine cannot be rebuilt; it's already been tried. :(

So many people have asked about this I figured I would tell people where to look. Obviously these people weren't paying attention to the message the FIRST time it appeared in the DeLorean Mailing List. In any case, go the DeLorean Mailing List web page at "http://www.dmcnews.com" and read the back issue dated 1/10/96. As you seek so shall you find.
