ADMIN NOTE: There was no DMC-News this past Monday. My computer was down,
and rather than put out two issues back-to-back, I held it all until this
morning. My apologies for the inconvenience, and within a few weeks,
steps being taken now will have taken effect to eliminate further
interruptions. Details to follow soon!

I kept track of my gas mileage when I drove my 1981 DeLorean VIN#1529 back
home to Missouri from Oregon after buying it in November. It may not be
entirely accurate as the speedometer was fluctuating quite a bit (failing
angle drive naturally). However, the worst my car did on a tank was 19.3
MPG and the best it did was 26.3 MPG with an average for the 2,000 miles
trip of 21.3 MPG.

Car and Drive reported getting 18 MPG when they first tested the car, and
also ranked the car as having more sex appeal than a Porsche 911SC,
Ferrari
308GTSi, Datsun 280-ZX Turbo and the Chevrolet Corvette!! Road and Track
reported average fuel economy of 19.8 MPG, while Motor Trend reported
getting 26.8 MPG with their test car. (I guess we know which magazine
takes
it easiest on their test cars)

All of these test reports were reprinted in the book "Stainless Steel
Illusion" by John Lamm and The Newport Press, which is where I found them.

My guess would be that your car is running within the normal range for gas
mileage. Maybe you just drive a bit heartier around town and more
consistent on the highway. No offense meant, of course. I know that such
is
often the case with me and my Porsche.

Elias:

DeLorean Motor Company Service Bulletin Number ST-33-12/81 is a 12 page
article dealing strictly with diagnosing water leaks throughout an entire
DeLorean. James Espey (moderator of this mailing list) has reproduced it
as
an Adobe Acrobat file and it can be found at this web site:

http://www.dmcnews.com

The bulletin is very informative and complete to my opinion. I plan on
performing nearly every one of the recommended sealing steps over the next
couple of months even though my car doesn't appear to have any leaks
(yet).

It is a valuable file and I would recommend everyone takes a peek at it.

Howdy ya'll. For some reason or another my car refuses to shift into
first gear when the car is moving. But the instant the car stops it
slips right in like nothing is wrong. Does anyone out there have a
similar problem or has heard of others encountering this? ALSO, I need
new inner tie rods(my tires are being destroyed) but the shops in town
can't find a listing for the part. Does anyone know of the equivelent
part or of someone who does? Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Burton

The slats on the rear window of my DeLorean are cracked in quite a few
places, so I was wondering if anyone knew where I can find replacements
or if anyone happened to have one.

Does anyone have a cross reference part for the master brake cylinder? I
understand the exact original is no longer available, but is closely
matched by another Girling unit. I'd be immensely grateful for any
assistance (and might actually get my beast on the road and through
emissions!)

I had actually hoped to obtain a brake master cylinder for this weekend
from a DeLorean parts place (ordered earlier in the week with 2 day
shipping), but Friday came and the part did not!

If it makes a difference, I only need the master cylinder itself, since
the
reservoir and associated hardware are fine (but I realize I will likedly
have to purchase the entire assembly).

While on the subject of parts cross reference lists:

I am interested in acquiring lists of cross referenced parts for my use
during the resurrection of my project DeLorean (and for maintainence
thereafter ;) If anyone has such a list, I would be happy to provide
reasonable compensation for the compilation effort and the transmittal
costs. Please contact me with the details.

Thanks in advance...

You know, a while back I mentioned visiting Universal Studios in Florida,
where they have a Back To The Future exhibit/ride. In the gift shops in
that
area they had tons of little matchbox - like DeLoreans... but they were
the
Dr. Brown "modified" DeLoreans. If anyone wants to take a trip to Orlando
for the group to pick up a couple dozen of those, be my guest. But other
than that, I have not seen any replicas.

I can't quite remember the history on this piece, but I have a Delorean
Hot
Wheels type car made by a company whose symbol is: E
                                                     Z
                                                       E
Except the "Z" is bigger and the "E"s are closer together. The gullwing
doors actually open and there used to be a piece of velcro on the bottom
that held it on the front of a belt as a belt buckle. No year is given
on the car. I would appreciate any information anyone could give me on
this small car.

Thanks

There is another cross-reference for the thermostat in the DeLorean. It
can
be found at your local Napa auto parts store. Just go up to the counter
and
ask Billy Bob for Napa thermostat part #280. It cost me $18.69 plus tax.
As far as installation is concerned, the gasket from the original
thermostat
fits, but is a bit loose. When installing the new thermostat into its
housing, place an adequate amount of gasket sealer to prevent leaks.

The air pressure from my air conditioning and vent is minimal. It is
almost
as if the fan is turned on its lowest speed when it is on high. I can only
feel the air if I put my hand right next to the vents. The air is cold but
there is no pressure. The repair shop that I took it to said that that was
how it was supposed to be. I highly doubt it. Any comments on this
problem!?!

Dear Fellow DeLorean Enthusiasts,

This is a request directed at any of you that have attended past DOA Expo
events. My wife Mimi and I have been working on the Owner's Association's
historical photo album and find that we need additional pictures from the
following events:

     1988 - Osage Beach, MO
     1989 - Cape Cod, MA
     1991 - Las Vegas, NV
     1992 - Scottsdale, AZ
     1993 - Belfast, Northern Ireland
     1994 - Williamsburg, MD
     1995 - Las Vegas, NV

If you have ANY pictures from these events - snapshots from ralleys,
concours, banquets, etc, we would like to borrow them and have copies made
for the Association's historical record.

At the early Expos, these books have been on display and have been
enjoyed by
all. We would like to continue this tradition.

Please send any copies of pictures that you can spare, or originals or the
negatives (if possible) to us at:

     HANK & MIMI BREER
     BOARD OF DIRECTORS
     DELOREAN OWNERS ASSOCIATION
     1946 N. HARDING AVENUE
     ALTADENA, CA 91001

Include your return address and a note telling us if you are donating the
photos or would like them returned. We will take care of duplicating them
and return them promptly.
