DeLorean One carries a complete set of door opening
weatherstrip, as does PJ Grady.

I have had some success requesting a video tour of the cars I
am interested in before I invest in a trip. If the owner
hasn't already made one, you can even request the content.
Be sure to return the video if you decide you aren't interested.

A pretty decent idea there. I didn't think of that approach, but bought my
DeLorean based on pictures of it, the owner's statements and the opinions
of several other DeLorean owners in his area that knew about the car. I
really recommend getting a copy of the DeLorean owners on the Internet
from
Takeuchi's DeLorean Home Page (if it is back up in some form again) and
then check with owners in the states you're checking out cars to see if
they have any knowledge of the vehicle. Some might be hesistant to say too
much negative if the car isn't totally misrepresented, but you can
normally
get a pretty good guess by reading between the lines.
Oh yeah, I also had an area garage that had never worked on the car, but
had lots of experience on DeLoreans, take a look at the car for me. Their
opinions on problems proved to be less than 100 percent accurate, but were
close enough for me to get the car running well enough to drive it 2,000+
miles back to my home.

When I was shopping for my DeLorean, I was able to get background info on
most of the cars I looked at by calling the DeLorean Owners Association.
Many of the cars out there at one time or another have been memebrs of
the DOA. As a member, I was able to call John Truscott (DOA Membership
Director) with the cars VIN and find out if the car had ever been a
member, from where, how many previous owners the association was aware
of, etc.

The defrost switch in my DeLorean doesn't work - not a big deal here in
AZ, but in preparation for the concours, I'd like to see if it's
repairable or I should bite the bullet and replace it. I've never seen
one that did work, so I'm not sure if maybe the problem isn't somewhere
else - thoughts, comments anyone?

Just as a matter of record for those looking:
spotted in the Sunday (July 21) edition of the Chicago Tribune...
"DeLorean 1981, blk lthr interior, factory installed turbo charger, 11500
orig miles. $13,900. 708-936-8500 voice mail".
I don't think that "factory" installed turbo means Dunmurry, IRL but
instead
likely Legend Industries.

James:
The defrost switch is a pretty simple device and I wouldn't see why the
contacts would go bad except for corrosion or breakage of the metal
strips.
Mine actually works, however, it does seem to be finicky and sometimes
fails to activate the "EAR DEF" light. One of these days I should check
the
bulb outlet and see if I can make is say "REAR DEF" instead!

John Truscott maintains a listing of DeLorean for Sale by Association
members. This list is available on request to John if you are an
Association
member, plus his advice is well worth the investment for a year's
membership. Check Out the Association Homepage at :
