Subject: DML: Removing Ignition Switch/Blinkers blinking erratically
Anyone know how to remove the ignition switch? I looked in the manual
and
it shows a screw at the bottom and 2 shear bolts at the top... There
isn't
a screw on the bottom of my ignition switch... and the 2 shear bolts are
'sheared' (imagine that..)...
Also I noticed a while ago that my front left blinker was not working,
my
left blinker started blinking about twice as fast as normal - and I just
assumed this was because one of the filaments was burnt out... well, it
isn't, I switched bulbs just to see if it was the bulb and the same bulb
works in the right blinker just fine... now my right blinker blinks
really
fast like my left one, and my left front blinker still doesn't work -
both
rear ones work however... Any ideas on this?
Thanks,
Dan Berglund

Several weeks ago I posted a message about a two-sided dealer sign that I
had bought. I have posted some photos of the sign for those of you who
wanted to see what it looks like.
http://www.dmcnews.com/sign.html
I was able to easily remove one "side" of the the sign from the light box
and soon it will be hanging in my living room. The other side, with the
light box, was purchased by another list member and was shipped to him
today.
For the record, the complete sign weighs over 300 pounds, and measures
nearly 11.5 feet in length and with the pedestal shown in the photos,
nearly 4 feet tall. With only 343 DMC dealers, one has to wonder how many
of these are left around...

I had the same problem because of my front blinkers. It turned out to =
be the adjustment of the bulb itself. After removing the blinker =
housing, active the turn signal (not the hazards) and then turn the bulb =
slightly until the blinking is slower.
It has been a couple of months since I have done this and I have not had =

I've got 20" wipers. This is what was specified in the wiper
manufactures
listing for the DeLorean.(This is the only item I have ever found listed
for the Delorean on off the shelf items)

Last night, while having a beer at a local watering hole, one
of my friends mentioned that she heard John Z. DeLorean's
name on the national news Tuesday night. Unfortunately,
she couldn't remember what network it was, or very many
details about the feature.
The story was about some new car that is going to be built,
possibly from stainless steel. She was not sure that JZD
was actually building the car, since the story sounded like
another man was going to do that. Perhaps DeLorean was
merely mentioned because you can't talk about stainless
cars without dropping the his name.
I was really sorry I missed it. Did anyone else hear about
this story?

A while ago, I said:

This behavior went on for two weeks. But yesterday the
search function began to work for me. Perhaps Aaron
tinkered with it? I don't know. I think Aaron plans to refine it
if enough of us express interest. To try it yourself go to
Aaron Barrus' webpage at :
www.inconnect.com/~dthornto
The search function is a great idea. In the 1.5 years I've
been in the DML there has been a ton of great information
exchanged here. Of course there has also been some
boloney. All of it is recorded in the back issues, and a good
search function is the most efficient way to sort through it all.
If you agree with me, please email Arron at:
AaronB@slc.twc.com
and encourage him to continue working on the search
function.

This relay isn't mentioned by name in the manual, nor is it identified
on the wiring diagram. However, the coil is wired into the starter
circuit and the contacts are wired into the ballast resistor circuit.
Therefore, I believe it is used to bypass one half of the ballast
resistor during engine crank in order to provide increased coil voltage
for starting. This function is discussed on page M:01:03 of the
workship manual, bottom paragraph of the left-hand column.

I had to remove my ignition switch last month in order to get duplicate
keys matched to the cylinder. For my car (VIN 10431, Dec '81), I found
the workshop manual procedure (page M:12:01) and drawing (figure 48) to
be exactly correct. If they aren't right for your car, I would guess
that either (1) earlier production had a different arrangement or (2)
someone previously removed your switch and performed a "modified"
reinstallation. Sorry I can't shed any more light than that.
I am having the same problem with the LF turn signal. It is caused by a
short somewhere in the harness feeding that lamp, probably on the line
side. I haven't located my short yet, but guess it's probably in one of
the connectors. Hope that helps!

I'm not sure what the aluminum would look like when polished, but
for a more durable finish I would suggest powder coating. I just had my
rims done and they look great. Most places will probably be capable of
matching the original colour, and this stuff is practically bullet
proof. No more flaking and corrosion for me!

Mike, Review of AP news stories for the past week indicates 2 stories
with
JZD in the text. One concerns the computer company of an individual who
was
previously the co-founder of Applied Composite Technology, INC, which was
"involved developing the composite material aspects of the prototype for
the
Delorean DMC-12 sports car." The second story involves a new SUV named
the
"Stinger", which will be sold with an aluminum body. Due to the "nearly
rustproof body", and the fact the vehicle was developed and will be built
by
a new company, the entire project was equated to DMC. BILL

I read an article Wed, July 2 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch about a new
car being built out of aluminum. Its built by Warnes International
Vehicles Inc.. It's located in Fredericksburg, Va. Its called the
Stinger and is being hand built by the group of 16 people. It will
retail between 16 and 22k. It looks like a jeep and is said to get 50
mpg. The article mentioned JZD many times as a comparison to the small
Warnes group.
This may be what your friend heard, but who knows.

Dave,
My '83 is VIN 17065 meaning that it is intended for the Canadian
market. I too have this extra relay in the engine compartment. Seems to
me that there probably aren't too many places in Canada where such a
relay would be required. I have a feeling that they are probably on most
Deloreans. I do remember reading about how the juice from the coil is
knocked down after initial start up to prevent excess wear/ damage to the
distributor and rotors... could it be possible that this is the purpose
of the relay? If so, could this be held accountable for some of the
plethora of starting difficulties we've all heard about here on the
list? Anybody else have any info/ ideas about this relay?
