Since there have been two insurance queries today, here's my two cents.
Seldom are there advantages to being older, but AARP overs great insurance
through the ITT Hartford group. It is very reasonable. I have my
coverage
there.

If you are not of AARP age, you might try the Hartford. Perhaps they also
insure DeLoreans on a regular basis.

You can always go the "collector car" insurance route, but I drive mine
much to much to qualify for such coverage.

I recall some discussion recently about a D, probably a prototype, with
a different door window configuration, different wheels and sans
louvers. While going through some "junk" this morning, I found some
sales brochures that I was given when I bought 10688 at Consolidated in
1983. They are tri-folds with a picture of this car. It indeed has a
door window with a vertical channel about 1/3 towards the handle side of
the glass. The wheel are not as deep dish as the factory and there is no
louver. The interior is black but does not show the dash/instrument
cluster.

On the early delorean pictures that I have seen there is no DMC logo on
the
grill. My question is where these just tester cars or did the very first
deloreans not have a front emblem? I have also heard that there are two
different sized front emblems depending on what year it is... Can anybody
explain why they changed or if the first had no emblems? Thanks,

As has been said before, Speed costs money. How fast can you afford to go?

I have the Island Twin Turbos on my otherwise stock Delorean. I have not
spent any large amounts of time in a stock DMC, but I am told that the
Twin
Turbos cut 2-3 seconds off of the 0-60 time. More information is
available
about this in the DML archives.

The current configuration is limited to 6Lbs of boost, because the engine
is otherwise stock. With a performance rebuild (new pistons, rings, and
such) I am told the boost can be increased safely to 15-20Lbs. I am sure
that would give it some extra smile generating zip, but we are talking
about much more money.
I have not seen any super chargers, but it is kinda tight in there, so I
dont think it would be practical.

The cheapest way may be for you to sell your car, and buy one that already
has the Turbo setup, or has one of the Chevy small block kits in it.
Performance parts for Chevy small block are cheap (in comparison). I am
not sure what those kits do to the Tranny, so you may want to get some
more
information on it.

The best thing may be to leave it alone, and buy yourself a fast car for
the days you want to go fast. I got myself a used Taurus SHO that will
blow the doors off of my turbo DMC, along with the punks in the 5.0
Mustangs!! That will most likely cost you less in
the long run, and will be less aggravation.

The VIN #500 car has no DMC grill emblem, either. It was
not a prototype (since it was made on the assembly line) but
it was also not a regular production car (since it was never
intended to be sold). To my knowledge, every car that DMC
sent to dealers had the DMC emblem. These started
somewhere around VIN #1000.

I think all the production cars had the same DMC grill
emblem. The later cars had an additional DELOREAN
emblem on the driver's side front corner of the luggage
compartment lid. The letters on the DELOREAN emblem are
smaller than the ones on the DMC emblem.

When I moved to Colorado from Califronia, State Farm would only insure
liability. No collision, comprehnsive, etc. That's whay I went through
the AARP. BTW, my premium on the DeLorean is less than on my 8 year old
Jeep Cherokee! My record is squeakly clean.

to
start it and even ride in it! I've been studying these cars for quite a
while, but I still get varying facts about these cars, such as the top
speed. I have heard it to bbe 134mph, which seens correct, and I have
also
heard it to be 109 mph, which seems relatively slow. I have also heard
the
horsepower to be 130@5500rpm, and the weight to be 2.838lbs. Are these
correct? How do you tell the difference between an '81, '82, and an '83?

Most of the Majors will not insure a Delorean under their
preferred programs. While I have my coverage through Allstate
I insure my Delorean throught Allstate Imdemnity for about 40% more
than my daily driver. Under this policy I am also able to suspend the
insurance (all but comp) during time I do not drive it (minimum 1 month
suspension at a time). This is where your relationship wiht your agent
is important. If your agent is unwilling or unable to help you then mabey
you have the wrong agent.

try Allstate - they have filed ratings for the DMC-12 - a lot of carriers
do
not have filings with the state ins departments and cannot write coverage

The D is not rated as a high powered sports car by most companies. The
rate
is going to depend on your age, driving record and now, believe it or not,
your credit record.

If any readers, or friends of readers, are in search of a beautiful, yet
affordable DMC...your time has come.

Due to situations beyond my control, I must sell a 1981 DMC. It has 40K
miles and is in good condition. It has been a faithful, reliable and
rewarding companion. The air conditioner was serviced 2 YEARS ago, and
keeps me cool still today. The automatic transmission's computer was
refurbished with upgraded circuits and chips (no troubles for years).
The black leather interior hasn't a crack, and looks quite impressive!

I am accepting offers. Do not be shy, just say you saw it on the
mailing list and we'll talk. Please contact me by phone! This e-mail

Hello All, and you too Sean,

I live in California so I am not sure that the rates I pay are
reflective of what you might expect.

I imported my 81 DMC-12 Vin 5729 in May, so it was a new Cal
registration as well as First time smog, and new car taxes. Here we are
required to have proof of insurance befor a car can be registered. I
thought
the whole deal would cost a small fortune, NOT SO! not including all the
registration and taxes, Smog stuff:
I pay $362.50 every Six months and could have gotten monthly
payments had I wanted them. We applied for full coverage for the DMC,
100K,250K uninsured motorist, Full medical and $250 deductable. We also
have
two other cars on the same policy, but listed the DMC as a pleasure only,
10Kmiles Yr. Coupe'. We have two other Mid value cars that each cost with
in
$50 a year of the amount we pay for the DMC, from the total we get a Big
Good driver discount, for no accidents, tickets, etc....Send me an e-mail
if
you would like the company name and details.

Good Luck!

finally
see kits in Augest.

To those who have sent me money, your checks are still in my file

inquired but not sent money, we are only having 25 kits made. At present
we
still have a couple of kits available. If you want one send in your check

I'll put your name on one. I'm not "holding" kits for anyone. The person

bankrolled this project is going to take any and ALL kits left unsold, so
if

Duke, are you sure this computer will work on the DeLorean?
I was under the impression that the Jeep/Eagle version of the
computer was many years newer than the DeLorean version,
thus it might be incompatible.

If you have successfully installed this computer in a
DeLorean please let us know. I have been toying with that

Top speed according to the brochure is 130, but I've heard people say
they've gone faster. I've personally done about 115 in a DeLorean, but
didn't want to push it any further since the owner was sitting in the car
with me. Horsepower is 130HP. DeLorean didn't make "production year"
changes to his DMC, therefore it is difficult to tell the year without
using
the VIN # or something. Early models had a seperate flap for the gas
tank in the hood, and window antennas. I believe later in 81 and through
82, you had to open the hood to fill the gas tank, and they also had a
power antenna in the rear quarter-panel. Some changes were made to
the exhaust pipe appearance from the rear. 83 (and maybe some 82's?)
have the word "DeLoean" on the front hood - but I could be wrong on
that one. . .

look at a FAQ at www.dmcnews.com for more answers to these
questions.
