Subject: Louvers/Rear Wing
I'm interested in putting a rear wing(or spoiler, whatever the name for it
is) on my 81. Am I correct in assuming you have to drill and mount it on
the louvers. If that is the case, does anyone have an extra set of louvers
for sale?
I don't want to screw up my original louvers for when I go to car shows
(btw, it's amazing how much interest & questions the DMC attracts).
Anyway,
does anybody have a rear wing? how do you like it? I'm also considering
changing the springs to drop the front end back down. Also has anyone
gotten an auto trans. Gasket and Filter from a non-DMC parts house. Any
stock # or input appreciated.
Thanks in advance

If you end up parting, I'd pay $25 for a working rear defroster switch
(the
one between the powe window switches)

Subject: Rear Wing
Josh:
I do have a rear wing installed at the back of the louvres on my '81
DeLorean. I doubt that it really adds anything to the handling or
aerodynamics of the car at normal speeds, but I still think it looks good.
I didn't install the spoiler myself, but can check to see if I can find
any
information about brand and model from the unit itself and from the
previous owner.
I just repainted the wing and louvres recently using a glossier black
paint. If it holds up and still looks sharp after a month of summer
weather, I plan to repaint the black trim with this paint, including the
entire rear deck and engine covr area. I'll publish more info on the paint
once I am assured it works well and is worth $6 for a regular-size spray
can.
Anyway, back to the subject. If you want, I can send you some photos of my
car and specifically the louvres and rear wing. Then you can judge how it
looks for yourself. It required drilling to holes for bolts at either end
of the back section of the rear louvres, but almost looks like a
factory-installed unit (now that the colors match).

Subject: ORIGINAL COVER & BAG
Does anyone out there know if the original cars were sold with a cover
and bag
for the cover?

Thanks to all who either sent or offered to send me the back issues that
I was missing for the web page. I'm surprised at how many people actually
keep these things filed away. I heard from a number of the "lurkers" as
well as the "regulars". Thanks again to all!

Subject: Want to BORROW an '81 Owners manual
I'm looking to BORROW an '81 owners manual, the one with the cool colot
cutaway drawing of the DeLorean. Most of you have seen or know about the
Acrobat 82 Owners Handbook I made, now I want to create one for the 81's
out there. I'll pay all postage, reasonable "rental fees" and a deposit
of some sort if you like. Let me know!

I was always under the impression that it was a dealer accessory, much
like the luggage racks and side stripes...

Subject: Where can I get tires?
Help! I bought my car with a no name brand of tire called Cavaliers (You
ever heard of them?). They were pretty new and the car moved so I kept
them. Now the car has 13,000 more miles on it and they look like they'll
get another 5 grand before they become questionable. Here's the problem,
Pirelli is discontinueing the P600 line and one of the two sizes
(14/195/60)
is no longer available. The local Yokohama dealer told me it would take
8-10 weeks on the 14/195/60 and a year back order on the 15/235/60.
Bridgestone's new racing serries has both tires listed but the dealer told
me they can only get in one of the two sizes (he wasn't size specific). I
don't want 15 year old K-pak stored factory originals. I drive the car
and
don't trust them for the way I drive. Does any one know of an H or V
rated
tire that is made in both sizes, preferably a brand name? Better yet,
does
any one know a place that has the Yokohamas or Pirelli P600s in stock
that I
can order from? I have time, but sooner is always batter than too late.
