Michael,

I'd be very interested in seeing that tape. I'll be at the Bowie car
show one way or another. Will you have your car there? If not, how
would I go about finding you?

Isn't John DeLorean usually at this event? Maybe we should ask him if he
wants to come along and watch? :) Somehow I doubt he'd appreciate it....

Where did you end up getting ahold of this tape? Could you drop a phone
number or address so others could get it? If they're not available
anymore, perhaps we could get a bunch of order so they'd make another run
from the master--sort of like what I'm trying to do with the DeLorean
model kits.

STAINLESS 'VETTE
>Any body know the year of the stainless steel corvete
>in the corvete museum?

I was intrigued by this so I dropped in on the Corvette
Museum home page and the Corvette chat room for
information. One gentleman who had been to the museum
said he saw an ALUMINUM 'vette there, but none in
stainless. The chat room is at:
http://www.ky.net/cgi-bin/vettechat.pl#marker

The Museum, in Bowling Green, Ky, is only a few hours
north of Nashville. In fact, I will be passing it both ways on
my trip to the convention. Would anyone be interested in
stopping at the Corvette Museum on Sunday, Monday, or
Tuesday after Nashville with a squadron of DeLoreans?

FIRST DELOREAN?
Sunday Rob Hook said he dropped by the Crawford Museum
in Cleveland to see VIN#500 and the other stainless cars.
Sorry I missed him; I was there Monday. As far as the car
actually being "sold" this is what I know:

VIN #500 was mentioned in SSI as the first production
DeLorean, I think, and was purchased by a gentleman at
Consolidated. According to the Museum staff the car they
have was indeed donated by a man from Columbus, home of
Consolidated. The car does have THE ORIGINAL DEALER
STICKER in the window that says VIN#500 and the
windshield and door plates both say VIN#500. Based on this
I have concluded that this was the first car, and it was indeed
sold by a dealer.

BTW Rob, you can't see it unless the museum people let
you crawl around behind the car, but VIN#500 has white
plastic insets in the rear fascia "DeLorean" lettering that look
pretty cool.

Any other DeLorean fans who are coming to Cleveland
please email me. I work two minutes from the museum and I
go there all the time. I'll make sure you see the stainless car
collection. DeLorean Cadillac might also be interesting.
Sorry, but I can't get Indians tickets ;-)

STAINLESS MAINTENANCE EXPERIMENT:
SInce I live in the rust belt, I am constantly surrounded by
engineers and technicians who know a lot about steel. I
have been stopped numerous times at gas stations and such
by these guys who see my car and give me an impromptu
lecture on how great stainless is. I have been told:

"Go ahead and drive the car in the winter, just be careful.
It won't rust any more in the winter than in the summer,
but unless you wash off the salt every day the stainless
steel will get ugly little pits in it."

How ugly is ugly? I don't know, and I'm sure as heck not
going to use my car to find out!

My plan is to acquire a piece of 304 stainless next winter
and bolt it to the bottom of my van. I will do my worst to it,
driving through the saltiest roads in the country for as long as
the steel lasts. I will take a picture of it every week, and as
the stainless becomes pitted I will share those pictures with
anyone who wants to see them.

Subject: ADMIN NOTE: Digest releases

Some of you have questioned the "quirky" nature of the recent digest
releases. This is how it works:

1. A subscriber sends a message to dmcnews(AT)world.std.com
2. Assuming that it relates to DeLoreans in some way, I release the
message to those subscribed to the "live" version of the list.
3. The released message is automatically put into the next digest.

The plan is for me to issue a "make digest" command every Monday,
Wednesday and Friday. However, each digest will only hold approximately
32K of data, and once that threshold is reached, a digest is created
whether I issue the command to the server or not. That's why it is so
important to take note of what you quote in your submissions to the
digest (i.e. use the [SNIP] feature of your brain when composing replies).

As DMC-News traffic increases, digests will be created more often. Such
is the price of success (and verbosity).

Actually, I was there on Monday too. The date on my message was probably
wrong as my laptop tends to keep inaccurate time. What time were you
there? I was there from about 12:15 until about 1:30 in the afternoon.
I did walk around the car and get pictures of the VIN and window sticker.
I didn't see any musuem people so I just walked around the ropes. I got
a picture of te rear of the car too but I didn't notice the white insets
in the DeLorean letters. Perhaps it was the angle from which I looked at
it. I work down at the North Point building at 901 Lakeside Ave. for
Jones Day. Drop me a line at work at 586-1106. Perhaps we could do
lunch some time. Are there any other DeLorean owners close around? I
talked to a cabi here and he said he sees a DeLorean about once a week
downtown. Anyway, drop me a line.

Scott:

Glad to hear that someone is getting the catalog at least. I called D1 and
asked for a catalog shortly after purchasing my car late last year. They
said they were out and instead sent me a photocopy (only of every other
page) with promises that I would receive one of the new '96 catalogs when
they were produced. Here it is June 18th and I'm still waiting.

Oh well, I guess Ed doesn't really want any of my business. I'm sure PJ
Grady won't mine the extra sales to me.
