Subject: What they did....
They turned the car around, got it working (and really made it
vague why it wasn't to begin with...a new mechanic will be looking over
this to make certain everything is proper)
They made an attempt to patch up the old switch and reinstall it,
liking the wires together so the wipers worked. They also gave me a little
bag with a metal spring in it with the explination that it needed to go
back in when the new relay was installed and with it in now, it "just blew
fuses"
No, no relay. This is something I'll do myself. They mearly
bolted the old back in place and told me they wouldn't buy a used part.
Then they jumped it and told me of what they thought was a problem.
They claimed they had to put a half-gallon of coolant in it. I had
to explain to them that when they fill the overfill to the top, it's going
to spill out when the car gets up to temp. I didn't want to mention it at
the time, but as soon as I was off their shop grounds, I propped the engine
cover up and reseated the headerbottle cap, it was making an unsightly dent
in my cover the way they had it....SIGH...I'll just take a photo of it.
In the meantime, my O2 light is on and the exhaust smells loaded
with gas, so I'm assuming time has come for my sensor to be burried. Does
anybody have the volvo part number so I can have the dealer ship it to my
temperary mechanic. Changing it is simple, I want it ready when I get
there...

Chris:
I also own a customized DeLorean and love it the way it is. Several owners
of Stainless Steel De's have complimented me on the changes which were
performed long before I bought the car. Mine is a 1981 DeLorean VIN 1529.
It has been painted red, has custom five-spoke chrome wheels and a small
rear wing installed on the louvres. I plan to continue to customize the car
with an Alpine CD stereo system (will easily offset the lousy reception of
my windshield antenna tape that was put on the first few cars produced),
car alarm, twin turbos, better brakes with cross-drilled rotors, newer
alternator, starter and like, complete stainless steel exhuast system
(should last forever and reduce heat in engine compartment), misc.
stainless steel hose covers and SS highlighting on exterior body, maybe a
two-tone paint job in black and mid 80's British Racing Green, cruise
control, third brake light, and etc.
I've even thought of converting the windows to the sliding windows featured
in the first prototypes, but decided that would likely be a pain in the ass
requiring a lot of custom-made parts, meaning too expensive to justify.
People can say what they want about my car, but they best not call it a
mutt or mongrel in my presence, or I would really be ticked off. The
ORIGINAL DeLorean was far from perfect. And consideration was being given
while DMC was still in business to paint cars as well as to produce them
with a body of a plastic/rubber-type compound that would be colored all the
way through the material and offer superior dent-protection as it would be
quite flexible.
All that matters is that you like your D and to hell with the others insult it!

Eric:
Any DeLorean with a number in the 17000 range would be a vehicles assembled
by Consolidated Industries (later known as KAPAC) who purchased the
remaining stock of DeLorean items and is the major supplier to DeLorean
One, DMC, Swedish Auto and all the other specialty shops I left out here.
A higher output could occur several ways, with a likely case being a
different exhaust system than in the U.S. vehicles. I assume the emission
control laws may be different in Canada are somewhat different and may
allow for an exhaust that sucks less power from the engine. Other options
are a myriad of devices you can buy cheaply from places like J.C. Whitney
that claim to boost power/prolong engine life a few percent. Examples are
better mufflers, applying insulating wrap to exhaust system, Splitfire
spark plugs, The Force (claims to supercharge the air intake system), and a
magnetic fuel device that declumps fuel molecules.
No, I am not an expert on these items (just saw them in a catalog), nor am
I trying any of them at this time to be able to verify any of their claims.
If I do give some of these items a shot, such as the electronic rust
corrosion system (for the frame), I will be sure to report back if I have
any luck with the gizmos.

Subject: Any recommendations on manuals?
Hey all:
I am looking to purchase a set of DeLorean manuals (factory servie manual,
parts identification manual and full set of technical bulletins) in the
very near future and was wondering if anyone knows of a place that has
original manuals or at least decent copies available.
I don't care for a photocopied set where the photos and diagrams look like
nothing but black smudge marks or where the pages where run off a cheap
photocopier and appear gray.
I want an original set or clean copies of one and was wondering if anyone
has find a place that sells these? Or if anyone out there was wanting to
sell a spare set they might have?
Spring is near and it's time to get my DeLorean up to snuff by my opinion.
Especially since I drive it everyday now! Thanks guys!!
