re: DeLorean's address
The last I heard of DeLorean's residence weas in the New York Post, back in
1991. He had to seel his Bedminster Estae for 3 million to cover debts.
Everything he does nowadays is to cover debts. Has anyone heard from JZD at
all? Someone shoudl try to get him for an interview...

I would sure hope so! I hear of these outrageous insurance premiums on
occasion (including a mention of a $3000 premium). My only advice is to
shop around a bit. My DeLorean is my only car and gets in excess of 10,000
miles per year. My full coverage insurance runs me $350 every 6 months. I
use State Farm (as do other members of Chapter 41).

It's OK to drive the DeLorean as an only car.
In most cases, however, there are some bucks involved in doing so. Usually, it
is not keeping the car running once it's up to snuff, but getting the car up to
snuff after it has been abused and improperly stored for the past 10 years. My
car has a little over 95,000 miles on it now and is going strong. It did cost a
little money when I first bought it to get it in shape, though. My experience
has been that the cars with a little higher mileage on them are better driving
cars than the typical (less than 20,000 miles for under $20K) DeLoreans out
there. Just my $0.02 worth.

Everybody,
There's been a lot of talk about high insurance rates, so I thought I'd put in my two cents here.
Full coverage on a DeLorean for me is $250 / month, or $3000 / year exactly. This is with the DeLorean listed as
the primary vehicle, and I have one collision and two tickets listed on my record (far from perfect). I am 20 years
old, and live in Utah. This will go down 1) when my collision goes off my record next year, 2) when I am 21, then
again at 25, 3) if I get married, and 4) if I make it a non-primary vehicle. But even married at 25 with a perfect
record, it won't go below $2000 / year. I guess that's just the price you pay to own a DeLorean.
Also, I thought to mention one other thing . . . we all know the high price of freon and that it is, for the most part,
unavailable (or is getting more that way). There is a drop-in substitute for r-12 freon which will not require you to
redo your entire air conditioning system in a perfectly good stock DeLorean. It's called GHG-r406a, and is
available all over Utah, I don't know about other areas of the country. It is more efficient than r-12, it delivers 10
degrees lower temperature consistently. Unfortunately, the EPA hasn't approved it for automotive use yet,
however I believe the rules for a home mechanic working on his own vehicle are different than the rules for a
commercial repair shop. Therefore, if you can get ahold of the freon, you could probably stick it in your car. I
have more info if anybody is interested.
and a/c is a nessecity in a DeLorean with those itty bitty windows!

Tooling around town today I saw a silver van with one of those license
plate frames that says "My other car is a DeLorean!" I'd get one, except
my Neon's bumper only has holes for the bolts at the *bottom* of the plate,
and the frame only has holes at the *top* of the plate. Bummer.

Can anyone help cross-ref the A/C condenser used on the Delorean? It's
getting hot down here, and I really need to get the air conditioning fixed!
Thanks in advance for your help.

For those who missed them the first time, I have reposted the two scanned
images of my custom '81 DeLorean (VIN#1529) on the Internet within the
newsgroup "alt.binaries.pictures.vehicles" At least one person's news
server does not have this group among its list. For those people, I'd
gladly email the uuencoded images to them as I have an unlimited access
'Net account.
BTW, when posting to this mailing list, PLEASE put an appropriate label in
the SUBJECT line of your messages. It makes it much easier for us reading
the list as well as simplifying James' duties as moderator.

If that's a price, that's a pretty good one. Check out all the Common
Failure Items as well - "Mikasa" Espey has the list.
> Is insurance expensive?
Not particularly, especially if you have a clean driving record and a
second, "low-profile" [i.e. relatively uninteresting to criminals] car which
you can register as your "primary" car.
>I am 6'5" TALL can I fit in a DeLorean?
JZD was 6'4", as I recall, so he designed the DMC-12 to fit himself.
Some of this will depend on your build - if you're tall and thin as JZD
was, no problem; if you're built like a pear or a brick wall, it may be a
little tight.
>where should I look for DeLorean's for sale in the New York area?
Hemming's Motor News and the DuPont Registry come immediately to
mind.

Subject: `to buy or not to buy`
to delorean owners, i would like to ask a question:
having heard and read a lot about that car (door locks, tank sender,
cooling fans malfunctions, etc...), i wonder if i would do the right
move in buying the car i like the most.
will i have to spend a lot of time and money and patience to solve
these troubles or are these problems not current to every delorean?
i presently am interested about a 1981 (14,000 miles) automatic/black
leather which is on sale; even if i`m really excited about it, i want
to take the good decision (to buy or not to buy)...
by the way i would like to know more about zilla devices: are they
reliable and very useful?
i will greatly appreciate any comments about this matter.
thanks to everyone. (excuse my poor english: i am french canadian)

Subject: Need quick DeLorean World HELP
As mentioned in my sobbing message a few weeks ago about getting flooded
out of my home and loosing almost all of my DeLorean collection, I need a
quick help from someone.
In one of the back issues of DeLorean World, there is an article about
installing a manual cooling-fan override switch. Can someone please
copy/fax/scan that issue and send it to me electronically?
I'm trying to prep my car for this upcoming weekend event, and my cooling
fan switch that I installed a few months back is acting funky and keeps
blowing the fuse. I need to look at that article/diagram again to trace
things back, but I lost all my issues of DeLorean World, and have nothings
to refer to.
If you have a scanner, you can scan the article as a OCR (Optical
Character Recognition) scan or gif/jpeg format. Or if you have a photocopy
and a fax machine handy, my fax number is (360) 891-9104. If my fax
machine doesn't pick up, it means that I got enough help already.
Thanks if you do respond.
