I am still using the stock Ducellier Alternator with no problem. The only time I notice that the gauge is in a discharge state is if the engine is running below 1500 RPM. With all accessories running, i.e.: cooling fans, cabin fan, headlights, wipers, brake lights, the alternator will not supply all the power at idle, but driving down the road it is fine.
I do not spend hardly any time sitting in traffic jams, I'm sure if I did, the battery would eventually discharge. The battery is designed to get you through peak electrical energy demands and for engine starting. Normal cruising should bring the battery back to full charge.
My $.02 worth.

Just a Quick note to our DML membership:
I have agreed in conjunction with DMC Houston to do a DeLorean calender. It will be available threw us both beginning some time late March or early April.
The calendar will have two main features:
1. They will be issued (published) monthly so if you get one in April it will be from April 99 to April 2000.
2. The other feature will be that the DeLorean pictures are brand new, never printed or published any where. Not a single rip-off in the bunch. If you like stunning graphics you are going to love this calendar.
A sample will be posted on line in about two weeks. price is planned at $24.95
More info late next week!

To clarify, the following types of messages are not okay:
* Spam, chain mail, or virus warnings (posting these is grounds for removal) * Press releases, commercial notices, attachments, etc. * Questions asking if the DML has covered a topic previously (use our Web search engine) * Questions relating to a DML subscription (send email to <moderator@dmcnews.com>) * Me-too postings after a topic has been addressed sufficiently * Anything not related to the DeLorean automobile, company and man. * Obviously personal replies (should be done via private email) * Postings from people wanting to buy a "cheap" DeLorean in great condition * Quoting entire messages/threads and then only adding a few lines of new content * Anything else I feel is inappropriate (Iron Hand Espey)
I hope to keep the volume of postings moderate to avoid overwhelming subscribers. Also, I'm more likely to post messages that are well-reasoned, well-written, and avoid unnecessary vitriol. Don't take message rejection personally; it will be done in the interests of making the list a useful resource for us all.

Hello,
I am currently checking into buying a DeLorean in the next few weeks and I have just about all the information I need except for auto insurance. I'm looking at a 1981 DMC with 5-speed trans and in relatively great condition inside and out with 17K miles. I'm looking to use it as a daily driver and get full coverage. I'm currently a college student with a clean driving record and 3.5 - 4.0 average for good student discount. The car will be registered in Kansas. Does anyone have some good leads or places I should check out??? I've tried the archives but most info is from years back. Is there a current list of companies around the Net that covers the DeLorean under full coverage? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!!

My Idle/Low Speed Regulator (Idle Speed Stabilizer) packed it in a short time ago and I could not get hold of a Bosch 0 280 140 500 new or pre-loved (second-hand). Bosch Australia advised that the 500 was no longer available and recommended the 501. The 501 is shorter in height and smaller in diameter and works great. Because the diameter is smaller, it needs to have a rubber boot around it otherwise it is too small for the clamp. Bosch Australia provided a boot at no extra cost. The 501 cost $AUS280.00 ($US174.00).

Although I answered Jason's question privately, I just wanted to let everyone else know that there is indeed a club for the Sacramento area. It's called the Northern California DeLorean Motor Club (NCDMC) and it covers all of the north end of the state. I've been trying to find every DeLorean owner in the Northern California area, both net and non-net connected. We've had 2 'meets' so far and we'll start them up again in the spring (soon). We are planning tours, tech sessions, and perhaps we'll even host a larger event. Soon we'll have our own web site for club information and announcements and a message board. Having a lack of DeLorean service facilities in our area makes it all the more important for us to band together.
If you like to see some photos from our last 2 'meets', check out my web site!

Many answers will be posted to this question, but they really are of little value. Why? Simply because what is available for XYZ Cpmpany in one state is unavailable from the same company in another state. Next, what does one mean by "full" coverage? I'm sure my definition is different from yours.
Suffice that coverage is out there. It is neither cheap nor ungodly expensive. Shop around and see what is available in your area. Phone every MAJOR company licensed to do business in Kansas. Also, surf the net. Good luck.

I think i heard that too. I heard that after DMC went out of business and Consolidated bought out the whole factory that the original factory managers or whatever u want to call them came over to the US and finished off the half assembled DMCs in the warehouse. Am I correct or dead wrong?

That's the great thing about turbocharged cars, it's real easy to make them faster. Try running more boost or larger turbos. Just make sure you have proper fuel and ignition management and a blow off valve to extend the life of the turbo.

The actual suspension struts themselves are OK !!!
This means a cost of approximately $160 for a pair of replacement

(looking at the DMC parts database it looks like there there WAS a
part listed for this priced at $1.93 each but this is not stocked)
Does anyone know of any alternative to buying the complete struts.
(has anyone been able to find another set of bushes that fit ?)

There was a period during mid-1982 in which no cars were actually produced. Those produced before the shutdown are considered 1982, and those produced after are considered 1983, even though all of them were actually manufactured during 1982.
Many of the 1983s were built by Consolidated (in the Belfast factory). But I don't know if ALL the 1983's were built by them. At what point did Consolidated take over the manufacturing?

Because I need to go to California at the end of April, I have decided to drive the DeLorean, take a detour and attend the British Car Days in Las Cruces, NM, April 23-25.
Will there be any other DeLoreans there?
Feel free to email me off-line.

PS BTW, I'll be easy to spot - I'll be the only unpainted car carrying
an
unpainted (titanium) bike on it's back.

Over the weekend I went To a car museum Called "The Yankee Candle Car Museum"on Rt.5 in South Deerfield MA.and they had a Delorean on display vin#5529 (it belongs to the museum),it costs only $5.00 admission, but they have some very rare cars there including a F-50 spider(Mike Tyson),also they have a free literature to go with the Delorean display well worth the trip if you live in the New England area, also they have a web site www.Yankee Candle.com,that lists the cars on display.

William, During 1982 Consolidated took control of the 2,487 cars left in both the US and overseas including the entire factory parts inventory and company furniture. Toward the end of the year Consolidated took over the factory which had 153 1982 cars partially completed that were still on the assembly line. 100 of those cars were built to meet Canadian regulations and the remaining were converted to 83 model year cars. Apparently Consolidated really never manufactured any cars from the ground up, they only had control of the factory for the final assembly and conversion of the remaining cars still on the line. So I guess the answer to the question: when did Consolidated take control of the factory ? would be sometime in October or November of 82. It was short lived because on December 23, 1982 Consolidated announced that they would not be exercising their option to continue building Delorean Sports cars. The following day the last car rolled off the line.

Gerald, I guess it's time to hear from some of the DeLorean history buffs. I think we all can agree that there were two QAC's. On the west coast we had Santa Ana CA and on the east coast Sumervill NJ., I think. Stainless Steel Illusion has confused the issue by stating the following: P. 83 "at the company's two Quality Assurance Centers-in Bridgewater NJ and Santa Ana CA...." P. 133 "at the company's three Quality Assurance Centers" P. 134 "at the QAC's on both the East Coast at Bridgewater Conn. and West Coast Santa Ana CA."
I checked my Atlas and I don't see a city called Bridgewater in either New Jersey or Connecticut. So what's the story ?
Lets see if anyone can come up with an address.

Hallo DMCers,
Just to remind you all, you have a beautiful piece of Irish Heritage sitting in your garage.
The DeLorean is still the 'Pride of Belfast', so on this most auspicious day in the Irish calendar raise your pint of Guinness or glass of Bushmills to 'yer mon' DeLorean and his team in Belfast. Thanks for the pleasure they have given!!!
A Happy St.Paddy's Day to you all.
Cheers, IAN (HongKong) #6425
