Finding a RHD DeLorean will be extremely difficult, as very few such cars still
exist. [If memory serves me, most of the RHD test cars were destroyed.] Should
you be able to find one, do not expect to buy it cheap. It would be much easier
to purchase a LHD DeLorean and convert yourself to driving it on the left
side of the street. [I'm assuming the .au suffix means you're posting from
Australia.]
Parts are still reasonably well available [for an out-of-production near-exotic,
anyway 8-)], but they are not cheap either. Much has been made on this list
recently about a left front fender being offered for US$4000. Engine and
transmission parts should be readily available from your local Renault dealer -
I also assume they still export cars to the Land Down Under. Other parts may be
available from KAPAC [the DeLorean liquidating company], at a hefty surcharge.
Other members may be able to link you up with parts for less money - I suggest
you subscribe to the DeLorean Owner's Association [DOA] to get the inside line
on this route.
Prices? US$20000 should get you a good-condition, well-maintained DMC-12 in the
States. Even US$15000 still nets a quality DeLorean. Watch out if the price
dips below US$10000, though - the car may need extensive [and expensive] work.
Welcome to the list, Greg!

Check out the thermo time switch located in the drivers side of the water
pump, just below the thermostat housing. Unplug it and jump the wire leads
that you unplugged. If the car starts, that's your problem. Don't crank
beyond 10 or 15 seconds or you may flood the engine. The thermo time switch
is a standard Bosch part. It's the same as the one in an 81 Saab 900 turbo.

I am interested in finding out costing to purchase a DeLorean.
Whether this is from America or Europe is unimportant, however, right hand
drive would be preferable.
I understand parts are available from Ireland, as this is where they were
built.Are spares still plentiful?
Prices will vary greatly depending upon quality and also *where* you buy it.
There have been several LHD cars in Canada know going very cheap, as little as
$6600 USD. I read an article about a RHD DeLorean in Australia, so it possible
that you may be able to find one there for sale.
David Howarth, the coordinator of the UK chapter of the DeLorean Owner's
Association was helpful to me this past spring when I was looking for a RHD
DeLorean - and he knew of at least one actually for sale at a cost of around
18000=A3 (about $40,000 USD, at the time). He can be reached at 094-288-2331.
The bulk of the parts supply I would have to say is actually in the US.
Dave Takeuchi's FAQ has a list of parts suppliers on it. All will be more
than happy to ship to wherever you may be. Certain parts are no longer in
great supply, but generally ALL can be found if you dig long enough and are
willing to part with enough $$, though I believe that expensive DeLorean
parts are the exception rather than the rule.

The Bosch # for the thermo-time switch is 0-280-130-214. Any foriegn car
parts supplier should carry it as it's used in several cars. It fires the
cold start valve, which is basically a seventh fuel injector.

Try Leland-West Ins. Brokers at 410 West Fallbrook Ave., Suite 213,
Fresno, CA # 800-237-4722 ... they have a special low mileage policy
for D's. It's the same plan they use for Porsche owners. The rates, at
least compared to New York, are great. Regards, Marv Sterling

Thanks to Grey Matthews (Greymattrs@aol.com), who directed me to DeLorean Motor
Center for a center cap, I now have a complete, factory original steering wheel
on my car. Just another reminder that you cannot always believe what you hear
from one (or two) parts suppliers about the availability of a part - always get
another opinion! Oh, and this also fixed my earlier problem about my turn-signal
indicator not shutting itself off after a turn.
