Does the Delorean Run on regular unleaded gas or on premium? Does it make a
difference in the cars performance???

Now there's a question...Was I just lucky?...Have I missed something or AM I
missing something?
I didn't have any problem at all getting full coverage with my insurance company,
for what I consider to be a reasonable rate considering...$100 a month
, payable only monthly.
Should I check with them to get some information...I've been planning on doing so
anyway, before and after I make a few changes and additions to the car to
detirmine how much they deem replacement value and how much it would be worth
with my modifications...

Has there ever been any list made up telling of the common failures of
the DeLorean? Anyone perhaps know these offhand?

I'd like to know what to watch out for....

Does anybody know what the value of the July 1977 R&T or the June 1981 R&T.
They are both in good condition and both have pictures of the Delorean on
the cover???

I live in Missouri where apparently almost every insurance company refuses
to write collision and/or comprehensive coverage on DeLoreans as a new
policy (although 2 did say yes but gave me premium quotes of $2500 per
year). Farmer's Insurance Group is the latest company to refuse to do so.

But thanks to a wonderful state regulation, AAA, my present insurance
company, must agree to transfer the coverage on the Porsche (which I am
selling) over to the DeLorean through the current premium period which
lasts until February. After that they may or may not agree to continue
covering it. They will not say for sure until closer to the end of the
present policy period.

If worse comes to worse and they refuse to extend full coverage beyond then
or come back with outrageous new premiums, then I can always go through
Hagerty's or some other classic car insurance group and just not drive the
vehicle as much as I would like to (at least until I can find another
company that won't restrict the miles I drive).

I have banged my head against a wall for six weeks now over the insurance
situation and am no longer going to worry about until the first of the
year. At least it is covered for the moment.

Getting the car home may be another matter. I am picking it up in Oregon on
Sunday, Nov. 19 and driving it back through Missouri via California and
hopefully getting home before Thanksgiving. If it breaks down on the way, I
likely will rent a car and a trailer and tow it back to Missouri.

Wish me luck!

Subject: Hummer interior light report

I picked up my Hummer interior light and bezel today and to let everyone
know how its working, here's the story.

First off, if you buy one, only get the light assembly, not the bezel or
the wiring harness - you don't need either of them, and the bezel wouldn't
fit anyway without hacking up the headliner. However, the light assembly is
a near perfect fit.

Length of DMC domelight - 3 1/2" - Width of DMC domelight - 1 5/16"
Length of Hummer domelight - 3 15/32" - Width of Hummer domelight - 1 3/16"

When I get home I will try to take some pictures with my QuickCam of the
original and the Hummer light and post them on the web page.

I mentioned earlier that the black trim was a matte finish as opposed to
the smooth on the original, but I like it better with the matte finish
anyway. BTW, it uses the same bulb as the original, and when hooked up,
works the same way, too.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: There are three wires going to the domelight from the
car, and there are three places for wires on the Hummer domelight. However,
it is very important that these wires be hooked up properly (read: fire
hazard). I am by no means an electrical engineer, and I accidently reversed
two wires when I hooked this new light up. Before I stuck it back in the
headliner, I tested it and I am glad I did because it immediately began to
smoke and the light was very dim. I quickly turned the light off and it was
fine. I reversed two wires, turned it on again and then the light was
bright with NO SMOKE at all. I sat there for about 10 minutes, just in
case, and all seems well. So everyone knows, this is how I have it wired,
and it works just fine:

The three prongs are all in a single line (crude ASCII drawing below,
QuickCam pictures coming to the web page soon), and with the receiving end
of the prongs pointed to your right, attach the solid purple wire to the
leftmost prong, the black wire to the middle prong and the purple and white
wire to the rightmost prong.

           | | 1-Purple 2-Black 3-Purple/white

Test it, and if all is well, stick it in your headliner and go. These wire
colors are how it is on my 1982 DeLorean (#10570), yours may be different,
so check it and test it before you go stuffing the light back in your
headliner and burning your car up.

Obviously, I will NOT be responsible for any damages or injuries you may
inflict upon your car, other property, you or anyone else as a result of
anything in this message. It's here for your information, use it at your
own risk.

Incidentally, my old DeLorean domelight had "Made in France" and "SEIMA
35310" molded in the lens. The new Hummer light has "Maurice MONTEUX & Cie"
molded into the backside of the frame, wonder if they're both French
companies and ever related or if this is just a real common design?

Check the website (http://www.goodnet.com/~mikasa/dmchum.html) later today
for some pictures.

James,
I am quite pleased to find your reference to finding a replacement for
the DMC interior light on a '95 Hummer, but I have further questions:
The Bezel is listed as a separate item from the interior light assembly.
Does this mean that the flimsy plastic mount is available separately as the
"Bezel" and, since this is the part that always breaks, can the
working part of the light be retrofitted into a new bezel?

I have been keeping an updated listing of Cross Referenced Parts that
fit the DeLorean for a number of years and my latest issue is 8 pages
long. I would like to include the '95 Hummer part as a replacement for
the interior light along with my existing listing of the '81 Renault
Fuego. From your message of Nov. 1, I am including both the part
number of the Bezel and the assembly. Is this correct and do I need to
include additional information. Thanks for your help.
