I can't recall ever seeing them before, The seat belt bolt caps are original and don't cost much. There are serveral parts that are noit identified properly in the parts manual (as well as some missing entirely). I didn't think these caps were among those. I will have to check my manuals when I get home. In any event, if your car is missing these caps, spring the $5 and get some new ones. It really improves the appearance by hiding the unsightly metal seatbelt mount visible from the outside. So far all of the discussions of raising the body dies out of the North = Sea to continue making fenders and body parts have not addressed the = idea of starting up production of DeLoreans again to cover some of the = cost. If we had the body parts, the rest of the car is not too hard to = make. The frame is being re-produced in stainless steel, the fiberglass = under-body can be built by just about anybody, the engine could be a new = Renault crate unit (or perhaps something peppier?) or even better one of = the supercharged pontiac engines so we wouldn't have to worry about = emmision modifications, Recarro makes some great interiors that are not = too expensive, the suspension is the only thing that would make it = interesting. Did anything ever come of the tinted stainless steel idea? = That'd be pretty cool. Any more comments/ideas? =20 How about this: The Delorean failed for some reason. What do you think = the reason was? My personal feeling is it was the performance. The car = looks fast but really isn't. The automatics were just pathetic. People = would see the cars and immeditaly get an idea about how it should = perform. When they went to their nearest dealer to test drive it, they = were disappointed by the performance and ended up going out and buying a = Porsche or Lotus. What other factors lead to the car's demise? If = we/someone were to restart DeLorean production, we'd better not make the = same mistake again. I know it sounds like a crazy idea but that's what they said about the = DeLorean in the first place! It would certainly make automotive = history--bringing back a car after the company was put out of business = and the dies were pulled off of the bottom of the ocean! What a great = history! There'd be nothing like it in the world. --Rob Hook From: Rob Hook Date: Mon, 27 Nov 1995 14:33:22 -0500 To: "'mikasa(AT)aol.com'" Cc: "'Delorean Mailing List'" Subject: JZD's Mailing Address You called John Z Delorean? Geeezzz.... We're not worthy....We're not = worthy... Seriously, it would be really great if he could participate on the = Internet. Lots of little annoying problems that add up to weeks of diagnosing and tinkering, but I am still quite satisfied with the car. It drove 16 hours continously last Tuesday without shutting off the engine and it was running the same at the end as at the start. :) I am in the process of diagnosing a problem that allows the engine to turnover but not start. High up on my list of suspected items is the inertia switch, which was recalled on my car. I checked and it looks like the recall was not performed (nor was the recall on the front suspension). I called a Jaguar dealer in Kansas City today to inquire about the replacement part, which I was told is Jaguar (Eureka) 1DAC1761K. The dealer shows a listing for a DAC1761 but no "1" at the beginning or "K" at the end. Naturally the part number has changed, but I didn't write the new number down. Does anyone know if the DAC1761 is the same item? I would hate to special order it and spend nearly $75 on the part just to have it be the wrong one. As always, both past and future assistance/advice is greatly appreciated. ~ Chase P.S. Also on my list of items to check is the RPM relay, ignition-relay wiring update, electrical wiring to fuel pump and then the entire ignition and fuel system themselves. In the 1930's and again in 1960 and 1964, Ford Motor Co produced a series of stainless steel cars in conjunction with Allegheny Steel. The 30's car was a 1936 Ford sedan, of which two were produced. In 1960 the last two Thunderbirds were made of Stainless and in 1964 the last three Lincoln Continental four door convertibles were stamped in stainless. All of these cars were done at the end of their respective model years because the stainless was so hard it took the edge off the dies and literaly wrecked them. I'd guess 10 years in salt water would take the edge off even higher quality stainless steel stamping dies. Seat belt bolt covers: These are part # 106915. They're shown in section 8, subsection 7, group 6 of the parts manual. At least 80% of the DeLoreans I've seen over the years have these missing. If so, could someone point me in the correct direction, I'd appreciate it.
