I have just seen my first Delorean since I moved here on the island. It
re-affirms that this is the car I want. It takes a lot of self control to
keep my finances going for college and not for a D. But in 1999, stay
clear, because I will be in the market for a Delorean.

Hi Tony,

I know how the pros do it, and how it was done at the factory. I figured
out how to do ity by hand, but This is just my Idea on refinishing the raw
stainless. You need to build a jig that will allow you to move the
sand-O-Flex in stright paralell lines. (To ground)

After that it is a matter of practice and taking your time.

Well, it is getting that time, so I guess I'll be the first to throw the
question out. This will be the first winter I've owned my DeLorean and I'm
about to put it away for storage. What steps, should I take to protect the car
during these months? Would it be better to run the car for say, 20 minutes ever
week or two and move it forward and back several inches to avoid tire warp, or
should I just put some fuel stabilizer in the tank and leave it alone until
spring? Besides those of you who use your car in the winter, and you
lucky bastards who live in warm climates, what has everyone done in past years?

Lee - 3M also makes an adhesive solvent. Works great on the
old stuff used by the factory and won't damage fabrics, vinyls, and
painted surfaces. I don't recall the 3M part number, but you can ask
for it by name.

Unfortunately, I am not yet a Delorean owner. I am trying to find out a few
details with regards to importing one into Australia. Does anyone know how
much it would cost to import, and what has to be done to upgrade (or
downgrade) to meet Australian standards? Or better still, does anyone know
how many are already Down Under and if there are any for sale? I'm just
after details for the time being. Still trying to save.

Sean, and other curious others like myself,

I am not the proud owner of a beautiful D, yet, but I can offer some
of my limited storage tips. My uncle and a couple of friends are race
car drivers of various sorts and they recomend when storing a car to
"put it up on blocks" not cinder but regular jack stands. They also
say to remove the tires for excess ware on the suspention, shocks,
struts, etc. when haning there for long periods of time.

Unfortunately due to a family emergency, I was only able to make it
to Columbus on Sunday. But I was glad I made the trip down for even just one
day. My father and I drove down in my DeLorean and arrived just after 10:00am.
I got a chance to share some stories with several people who had
stuck around, and although I didn't buy a lot, it was a great opportunity to
see the parts. I am amazed by just how many there are. I wish DMC Houston the
best of luck getting this stuff fully sorted out, it looks like a big job.
I spent a long time looking at the partially assembled cars on display and
wish I could have been there for the tech seminar. Can someone post a summary
of what was covered?
I like the idea of another event. If DMC hosts one in the spring, I will
defiantly attend. That should be just the time I'm taking my car out of
storage and will have several projects in mind I will need parts for. :)

Best way to avoid tire warp is to put it up on blocks(or tripods stand
things)
starting it occasionally is what I do, the other option is to take out the
plugs and pour a spoonful of oil in each cylinder. blue smoke in spring !
A good idea is to but down a plastic tarp on the ground to prevent humidity
to rise up.

Well---
my way of doing it is to put in sta-bil
run the car for 5-10 min to get the injection system
involved with this gas treatment. park the car on a
carpet runner, check tire pressure and plug in the
battery tender(available at sears), put cover over
and forget till spring. others may have different pro-
cedures- I live in Illinois and am the original owner.

Subject: DML: More on my blem parts in Columbus

Marc writes (about the #1280 mirror I got in Columbus):

> Why would the mirror have been removed in the first place??

There were a lot of mirrors in the case, marked with different VINs, and
all of them had flaws. Some even had cracks in the glass. Mine only
had a minor scratch in the plastic. Not a big deal, but it would have been
annoying to someone expecting a brand new, exotic sports car!

I am sure the warehouse has other blem parts removed from other cars.
My observation was that the most careful documentation was done on
the 1981 cars, the earlier the better. Both the factory paperwork and the
documentation on the blem parts themselves seemed to get sparse or
non-existent for 82 - 83 cars.

I always keep the car in a garage. But even when winter arives, I always
take the car out atleast once a week. I wait until the roads are dry and
no
snow or rain, but a small 20 mile trip just keeps everything working smooth
and nothing special is needed for the winter.

Your message will fore sure start some intresting threds........Every one
seams to have their own Ideas about winter storage.

For my self here in California, except for pouring down rain, I have no
intention of a formal winter storage. many in the MidWestern and Eastern US
will store their cars. Each may be different.

Here are some problems you may want to consider in storing your own DMC.

1. Gasoline tends to go "Flat" over time, it also vaporizes leaving a residue.
You could draing the fule system. or run the enging weekely to full warm
it up.
2. Draining the coolant system (to prevent freezing damage.
3. Putting the car on jack stands (wheels off ground) or removal.
4. Disconnect the battery (remove from car).

covering the car with some kind of sealed bag or environmental controle
system. there are actual drive in plasitic bags that are fan inflated
(these have dust filters).

What you suggested will work just fine BTW.

Good Luck

K-COD will depend on K-SUD which is planned for November 20, 97
this date depends on Key blanks or no key blanks. I will make molded

In the event that this project become a problem I will let the list know.

According to the insurance company statistics for my age group, I have

Hi,

I hope this does add somewhat to the "worn thread".

I have consulted my father, a chartered Mechanical Engineer with a strong
background in Hydraulics and fluids. He told me that the material used in
O-rings and seals in aviation are made from FLOURO-SILICONE based rubber
and are bright orange in colour. This substance can also be bought by the
tube and will be unreactive to Gasoline whereas many other silicone-rubber
compounds will.

Hope that's the lot - sorry to drag this subject out :-)

Subject: DML: DeLoreans for sale in FL

Hello everybody! I looked at two D's today that are for sale. I thought
that some VIN #'s and descriptions of these cars would be of interest to
someone. The first one I saw today was 1982 5spd with grey int.
VIN#10965. The odometer SAID 27,553 miles which I think is wrong. The
car was a basket case. Body was pretty good and int worn but fair. It
had the typical hot starting problems and fuel problems. The biggest
thing about this car that makes it a basket case is the fact that the
frame is rusted so bad it looks like swiss cheese. Engine RPM's surged
up and down, window problems and fan relays. Asking price was $12,750. I
offered $6,000. They will call me back. I will not buy it. Second one
was 1981 Auto with black interior VIN#002606. Origional owner since new
and car ran good, NO frame rust and fake recaro seats. 45,000 miles and
the interior has been extensivly modified. Guages of every kind
everywhere. He added Mercedes radiator fans and Zilla window motors.
Everything worked and according to him has been vastly improved. He also
added a trans cooler and removed the center window switches which were
replaced with home made toggle switches. The AC worked awesome, but the
inside looked like crap. Body was great except for the front and rear
facias. Asking price is $14,000. Neither of these cars are for me. I
hope this interested someone. I will purchase a DeLorean from PJ Grady
in Long Island because of their vast knowledge and because they were
VERY helpful and more than willing to answer ANY questions I had while I
was on the phone with them.

The other night , while trying to convince this new
girlfriend of mine that the Delorean was actually
"A real Car" that was once manufactured and sold
by dealers, I noticed something in the Dealer Brochure
that I had never noticed before. On page 10 or 11,
there is a photo of the frame, shot from above. I noticed
that there were solid aluminum coolant pipes running
straight from the water pump. My car and all others that
I have looked at, have rubber hoses running from both
ends of the pump to the aluminum pipes on each side of the
engine. Now, is this some early production thing or just one
of those things that never made it to production for some
strange reason ? I know, its a strange thing to notice, but
It has my curiosity.
