Why would you want a locking glove box? As previously mentioned, this
would be the first place a thief would look, and with no lock, no
damage. Perhaps you have forgotten, or not found, the locking, well
hidden, storage compartment behind the driver's seat.

Peter Warr was the keynote speaker at the Recent Lotus Owners
Gathering in Cuyohoga Falls, Ohio. Warr took over as manager of the
Team Lotus racing team when Colin Chapman died in 1982. Warr left
Team Lotus in 1989 under tense circumstances.

During his talk at the Lotus Owners Gathering, Warr mentioned his
departure from Team Lotus. He quipped: "They were sorry to see
me go, because they offered me a dinner with John De Lorean at
any open-air restaurant in Belfast."

For a full report on the Lotus Owners Gathering, check out:

http://www.lotuscarclub.org/ltd17article.htm

It sounds like a fun convention. In addition to three tech seminars and
social events, they had an autocross, a rally, a "gravity grand prix"
(racing downhill without starting engines), and they raced on a real race
track.

The latch on the DeLorean looks exactly like the latch
on our '86 Jeep Cherokee. My guess is that this is a
fairly standard part. Keys will be easy to find also.

I respond:

When you have all of the parts in your tank rot out, it can be assumed
that
if the car ran that way, the small rubber particles are now clogging up
the
rest of the fuel system.

I am guessing that you replaced the fuel filter, you should clean, or
consider replacing the injectors as well. It is likely that they are
clogged.

When a engine runs lean (too much air, not enough gas) it will run exactly
as you describe. I recommend that you NOT drive the car the way it is,
especially if it is over heating. The heat from a lean burn has been
known
to burn holes in pistons, and do some other unseen damage to engine
internals.

Let us know how it turns out!

Good luck,
Marc

Happy T day!

One of the advantages to living in rural Minnesota is that
there is a lot of wide open spaces with good roads. I have
had my car over 85 mph on several occasions. The first time
was on the trip back from buying the car in New Mexico.
Ya gotta like the attitude in Wyoming and South Dakota.

Haha! I do use the drivers side compartment, but as I mentioned, at car
shows when the car is open, I didn't want people to be able to peek into
the glove box. There's a CD changer and various other goodies that I'd
just
prefer not be seen, etc.

On a side note, has anyone ever found water/moisture in that driver's
side
compartment?

Anyways, the original question still stands, is there a locking latch
available?

Just for the heck of it, I guessed that they might have a website for the
movie, and sure enough, it's at

www.weddingsinger.com

All that is there yet is a Quicktime movie of the trailer (9MB file
size). I downloaded it and it does have a brief flash of the DeLorean.
It's very hard to tell from the brief showing, but judging from the
scenes directly prior to the showing of the car, it appears that the car
is owned by the "schmuck" of the movie and not Adam Sandler, the star.

The website does say that more is coming soon, so I'll keep checking back
every so often. It has a release date for the movie of February 13.

I wonder what the likelihood is of convincing my local theater to let me
show my car in the lobby when it premieres? Depending on the role of the
car and it's "owner" in the movie, this might be good publicity for the
car.

I heard (or read) that exceeding the mechanical limits of the stock
speedo (85mph) is bad for the angle drive. I often wondered (after my
angle drive died) if my high speed jaunts were to blame. Can anyone
susbtantiate or refute this?

Also, does anyone know what is actually done to the "170mph"
speedometers, other than the obvious re-facing? I have a spare 85mph
speedo that I want to send off to be converted.

From my own expierence, A company called "Dakota Digital"
makes many types of digital displays that can be customized
for just about anything you can think of. They sell a series
of clusters that look very nice and can be put into the Delorean
housing without any great dificulty, and still preserve the indicator
lamps down each side. Prices are reasonable, but still a bit
much for a cosmetic issue. They also have a little digital clock
that works great as a replacement for those with the 81 cars
with the clock in the console.

I had mine at 125 mph between Las Vegas and Parumph, Nevada. I was running
245/50 tires at the rear which lowered the final drive about 12%. I use a
bit over 5 lbs boost on a single Rajay turbo and felt that there may have
been another 10 of 15 mph had the road been longer. Our DeLorean "Touring
Society" regularly cruises at the 80 to 90 mark when crossing the flat
lands
of Nebraska and western Colorado, for example. 800 to 900 mile days seem
to
be much easier in the DeLorean than most other cars I've driven. The car
really starts to settle in and feel happy with itself at about 75 to 80
mph.

James,

Ben Bird, who was a self proclaimed DeLorean expert in Florida several
years
back, sold a new 160 mph face for the DeLorean speedo for $25. I bought
one
and took my speedo to a local shop and had the new face installed and the
speedo recalibrated for another $25. I wouldn't think it too difficult to
have faces made. This particular one was a self sticking material that
appeared to be a plastic coated paper. If there was enough interest it
might
be something worth pursuing. The initial art work would be the up front
expense but most silk screen shops will keep that on file and only charge
for it once.

 What's going on here?

BTW...Ephesians 6:12, the name of JZD's company, refers to the bible quote
by the same name. "For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but
against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers
of
this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the
heavenly places." It is not suprising that Delorean would name his
company
after a bible verse since he gives an extensive account of being "born

to
the way JZD has shaped his public image throughout his career.

I don't know how many of you would be interested in this, but I think I
will

I recently acquired a limited supply of Mint condition DeLorean DMC-12
Brochures, (from the dealer showroom) that were produced by DeLorean in
1981,
to promote sales of the new car. These are the sales brochures the
Dealers
would give to prospective DeLorean customers, and to those who had
reserved a
DeLorean ahead of time. These are the ORIGIONAL brochures, NOT remakes, or
photocopies. "One of the top 25 collectables" --from The "Robb Report"
These
are EXTREEMLY RARE, especially in mint condition. I also have matching
numbers of Pre-Production DeLorean Pamphletes, that come with each
Brochure.
The pamphletes were made during the final development of the DeLorean, and
thus shows Specs, Interior Shots, and Exterior shots of a Slightly
different
DeLorean. It was yet yo have the "Window Inside Window" design made
populiar
by the DeLorean, but rather a bus-like, slide forward window. It is also
missing the rear air intakes, and several other obvious things, but is
different from the "Origional DeLorean Prototype." I don't plan on
selling
all of these off as they're quite rare, and as I had stated before, I have
only a limited quantity of these in my hands. All sales are first come,
first serve. These priceless brochures are $50, and include one of the
origional pamphletes too. For more Information, feel free to contact me at

I have received a number of questions from people about my conversion to
a 144 amp AC Delco "police" alternator. I obtained my info from a

the basic info for those interested.

The alternator I obtained to replace my stock Ducellier is AC Delco part

a $65 core charge. They took my Ducellier and gave my core charge back a
couple of weeks ago, but I assume it was a mistake on the salesman's part
as few places rebuild the French-built unit.

Dave Bauerle's mechanics in Ohio were able to install the new alternator
using the existing mounting bracket and original Renault belt. However,
the mounting piece that attached the engine block had to be milled
because it was too long to fit the AC Delco mounting holes. It MAY be
possible to mill the alternator's mounting holes instead to fit the
mounting piece, but I can not verify or deny that.

The new alternator works great and ALWAYS keeps the voltmeter reading
between 13 and 15 volts no matter how heavy the electrical load I am
running at the time.

If anyone has more questions they could call Dave as he said his shop is
an authorized AC Delco service location and I believe he may have
installed Delco alternators in other DeLoreans as well.

The receiver-dryer is a return tank which separates any liquid freon
which may come from the evaporator. If liquid freon is allowed to go to
the compressor, it will damage it. The tank also has a bag of dessicant
to absorb any water in the system. This bag is a cloth material and
tends to break when it is old, especially if it has absorbed much
water. You really don't want to flush out the system! The compressor
does have an inlet screen but it's still a long line from the
receiver-dryer to the compressor.
The workshop manual has an excellent section on air conditioning basic
theory just in front of the air conditioning secton (N:01:01).

I usually notice the strangest and smallest details when
looking at things. While thumbing through the workshop
manual today I noticed the picture of the engine at the
front of the engine section. If you really look at the picture,
there are differences in it versus the one in the car. I am
wandering if this picture is the engine before the DMC
modifications ? The engine pictured has the volvo
idle control system and not the electronic one.
 Anyone have any idea.

I know this is a boring thing to talk about on the list, but
I have noticed a decrease in people having window, idle,
start, stop, etc... problems lately so I had to think of something
to talk about. I'm currently involed in help a friend restore a
delorean car. I'm rebuilding the mechanics of the door now.
It sure would be nice to have smaller hands and an extra
joint or two. But, atleast I have taken the doors off the car.
Much easier than trying to work on them installed.

Subject: DML: New De Lorean web pages

I just added a new section to my web pages: the "How To" section. It
contains instructions on how to take off the dash, speaker replacements,
etc.
If you take a look at the pages, please give me some feed back and tell
me
if it is a good idea, or if it sucks. There is not much information there
yet, but hopefully if the pages seem beneficial to anyone, other owners
will
contribute and I can build the library.
