I disagree, if you know the proper procedure to replace the vent it is
easy... Of course, I have not yet removed the center console, so I dont
know which is "easier". I would expect that the vent removal would be
easier. I have done it a number of times in the past year.
During the DMC show in Ohio last summer, Rob Grady did a tech seminar
and one of the items he did was rebuilding/replacing some of the things
in the center console. He went through the procedure and explained how
to do it without removal of the console. If this is how a "Pro" does
it, I would expect that it is the best way.
I posted this procedure, see
http://www.dmcnews.com/backissues/dml386.html I think others have also
posted similar instructions.

Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying about the frequency valve. Are
you saying the frequency valve will only buzz for about a second and a half
and then stop? I do not believe that the frequency can stop working. The way
that system works is that in a cold engine situation the computer sends a
fixed signal to the frequency valve. This fixed signal is about 60% which
sets the fuel air ratio more rich that normal. This is because the computer
is being told by the tempurature sensor that the engine is cold and needs a
richer mixer than normal. Also while the engine is cold the lambda sensor
can't be looked at as feedback to adjust the air fuel mixture. This is
because the lambda sensor has not gotten hot enough to be sending a good
signal to the computer. While the engine is cold the computer is not looking
at the lambda sensor for feedback because it knows that the sensor is not
going to be sending a good signal. Therefore the computer is sending a
constant signal to the frequency valve that makes the mixture rich. It never
turns the frequency valve completely off. It keeps sending that constant
signal until the engine gets warm. Then the computer starts looking at the
lambda sensor to see how much oxygen is in the exhaust gases. The computer
then adjusts the timing on the frequency valve to adjust the air fuel
mixture. The frequency can not stop buzzing. If it does you are not
adjusting the air fuel ratio. That is the only way to adjust the control
pressure other than the control pressure regulator. And that works off of
engine temp and vacumn. That is a completely different system and is not
connected to the frequency valve.
You can see if the frequency valve is working by starting the car. Go to
the engine and listen for the buzz. If you do not hear it push the full
throttle enrichment switch. You should hear a buzz then. If you do not hear
the buzz the frequency valve is defective. If you do hear a buzz when the
full throttle enrichment switch is depressed the problem might be in the
wiring bewteen the frequency valve and the computer. Run a ground wire from
pin three on the computer to the engine block and start the car. See if the
buzz is there. There a only five parts to this system: The computer, the
frequency valve, the temperature sensor, the lambda sensor and the wiring
between all of the above.
I always though that if the frequency valve was not working you would
get a more rich mixture. I believe this is called the "lemp home" mode.
But I could be wrong.
Mark

Remove the radio and there is a fuse in the line just behind it. Be careful
not to mess up the control knobs when removing the radio.

There is an inline fuse for the radio that protects the parts of
the radio that are always on (clock, memory, etc.). This is
a 2.5 amp Lucas fuse located in the wiring harness behind
the center console on the drivers side. You can see the
fuse holder if you look into the mess of wires behind the
console from the drivers side footwell. There are two
inline fuse holders in the bundle. I don't recall the color
of the wire for the radio fuse.
English fuses are rated differently than US fuses, so you should
make sure you get the correct replacement part.

J,
This reminds me...right before we bought our D the previous owner
agreed to drive down and meet us at our house. Well my dad and I
getting were rather PO'd because we had waiting for someting like an
hour and a half before he rolls up. We knew someting was wrong when he
stepped out of the car with a bloody hand and glass shards were all
over the passenger seat. Apparently the same thing that you experienced
happened to him at a gas station, the lock switch was in an
intermediate position and then engaged when he slammed the door. A
locksmith was working on the car for an hour and finally gave up,
acknowledging that it was time for "plan B" handing the owner a hamer.
Too bad because the gas station was only about 3 min from the house. At
least he didn't have to bust a full size window, thats got to be about
the only time those small ones have been good for anything.

Not sure if this is the same game or not, but in the UK "M25 Racer" has been
released. It lets you access a "bonus car" if you complete the game, which
is a delorean.

The radio can be easily removed without removing the console. I just removed
mine last weekend by following the Delorean repair manual which tells you to
remove the center air vents and rubber boots, then remove the nuts from the
stems and by working through the vent opening you can work the radio out through
it. BTW there is a strap attached to the back of the radio that is held on by a
screw. This will have to be removed also.

I'd never thought it could happen, but I am selling my
DeLorean.
The condensed version:
1982 DeLorean, #10570 DEC 81, grey interior,
five-speed. Restored by De Lorean Motor Company in
1997, with regular and recent service also by De
Lorean Motor Company here in Houston, Texas.
This is the same car that is featured in the DeLorean
poster shown at:
http://www.dmcnews.com/Merchandise/postertemp.html
Thr front fascia has been replaced with a new one
since this photo was taken.
Most everyone on the list knows me, and many people on
the list have seen my car. I have a webpage setup at:
http://www.usadmc.com/10570.html
with the details on this opportunity to buy an
excellent Delorean at an excellent price.
Thank you!

WOW! This is the first time one of my posts has ACTUALLY gone through!
Break out the champagne...
I'm going to go for broke now...
Has anyone come across _any_ information concerning the DMC2? I've seen the
posts a while back with just basic information, and the info on Tamir's
interview section on his website. Has anyone seen any articles (Car &
Driver, Road & Track, etc.), spyshots, 2nd hand information? Anything? I
want to see something else than just that damn watch! :)
Thanks!
Basking in the posting glory,
-Todd G.
p.s. Now I'm really pushing my posting luck. I was talking to a friend of
the family the other day. We were talking about cars and I had mentioned
that JZD has another one in the works. She told me that sometime between
1972-1975 (she can't quite remember), that she had sat next to him on a TWA
flight between Nashville and San Diego. The two of them had struck up a
conversation and he told her he was starting his own car company, etc...
Anyway, he had showed her several pencil sketches of the DMC12 (gull wing
doors and all), during their conversation. So anyway, I thought that was
kind of a cool story.
(fingers crossed)

As keeper of the DOD, I have no listings for any of the BTTF
cars. However, if information can be obtained on them, those and other
noteable DeLoreans (such as the only 'factory' turbo, the gold cars, and
cars once (or still) owned by famous people) would make a great web page
addition to the DMCnews website. If everyone would like to try tacking
down the info I'll be happy to compile it. It would be even better if we
could include background information and photos on the cars.

James - one question - you mention on the website sales ad that your
DeLorean has a "new 140mph speedometer installed".
Has DMC Houston begun to produce such a speedo or are you referring to the
label kit another list member sold earlier?
Hope your investment pays off so that you again can own a DeLorean! This
investment, could it be the D2-project? :)
Best wishes

I guess the question on many of our lips is "why?"
Just curious... got a better one waiting in the wings? :-)

I went for three years without my radio because no one could accurately des=
cribe where my inline fuses were. =
Then I met a fellow DMLer locally and he showed me the light. I'll tell yo=
u right now it probably IS the fuse(s).
Here's where they are:
Although you have a fuse in the "fuse box" I'll bet that one is still good.=
  Mine was too.
You need to look for TWO "inline" fuses (white barrel connectors) in the in=
strument panel behind the radio.
1) Try reaching (blindly) behind the floor panel on the passenger side wher=
e the center console goes under the dash. They may be laying against that =
panel about 8 inches in.
2) Or... you could remove your radio by pushing it back into the dash and b=
ringing it out through the vent above it. Then reach inside the dash to th=
e very lower right (if you have small hands).
This is where they "should' be. I can almost promise you this is where you=
r problem lies. Both mine and Erik's where located in this area and they w=
ere both blown. Replacement INSTANTLY fixed the problem.
My thanks to fellow DMLer Erik G for this information!

Hello list
I am also a 81' delorean owner and have some problems. My car radio =
is not working at all. Last owner =
told me that when he jumped up the delorean, then the radio did not work si=
nce that. I doubt the radio fuse was burned up. Then I looked at the manual=
 for the fuses. =
One near the relay box was fine. Is anybody know where is others or any rec=
ommendtion for fixing my radio? I feel pretty lonely to drive a car without=
 music. Thank you for help.

Tons! Lots of cars in Canada. The main problem is the same all over the
world....not upgraded, poorly maintained and not"loved".
I have my second Delorean..1981 Turbo powered, upgraded, professionally
maintained properly, very clean, loved and respected and now the time
has come to sell. I sold my first one 5 years ago for $25,000 dollars
(Canadian) and went into a state of depression, so 2 weeks later I
bought this one which is in better shape than my first.
Anyone looking to buy a decent Delorean in Canada (London, Ontario)
here's the car or I can also deliver to the USA, Port Huron, Michigan,
duty and entry paid. (we may have to talk about added costs but not the
delivery)

I am inclined to disagree with Marc about repeated topics. Alot of people
have not been on the list for that long and I think it is unfair to to
discourage topics that have already been covered just because you've seen it
all before, you don't have to read these postings as you said your self, you
can just delete them. I think a good idea would be for the moderators to pick
just the best reply for a question, then the answer is not repeated over and
over. Also if we never repeat topics eventually we will run out of topics to
talk about and the list will be no more, and I'm sure neither you nor anyone
else wants that to happen.
Thank you for your time.

The Park Avenue offices have nothing to do with his budget overruns. I run
an office and his Park Avenue office cost are extremely small when compared
to other expenses. Although I have not tried DeLorean's approach, I do not
see it as the reason he needed money.

Since I had so much fun with my "Mystery Piece" contest (even if no one else
did) I have decided to try to do a Monthly contest for DeLorean stuff. If
interested, please visit my website for details at
www.babbtechnology.com/delorean
I am also working on a SS-304 cleaners section. I have developed a "rating
system" for the SS cleaners I have tried, but would like to have other
people's input as well. If you have a "review" you would like to provide
(Please, please) and don't mind being quoted on the web, please send them to

Dear DML'ers,
It's been an interesting day in Memphis. As the owner of #5705, I am always
on the lookout for other DeLoreans both in ads and in person. Today alone, I
spotted a DeLorean in Senatobia Mississippi, just below Memphis, and an ad on
Ebay for a DeLorean for sale in Memphis. If the owner of the DeLorean in
Senatobia is on the list, please e-mail me privately. But most importantly,
I plan to call the fella that has the car for sale on Saturday, and go have a
look at it. I will post tomorrow evening with the results of the find. If
anyone is interested, please e-mail me, and I'll send a more detailed
description. I also know of a DeLorean for sale in Ripley, Mississippi, and
just heard of another one for sale in Tupelo, if anyone is interested.
