Stian, I am sure the other vendors will respond with information, in the mean time here is our experience. We order all of our parts exclusively from PJ Grady and DMC Houston. Both operations provide either factory original or equivalent non stainless replacements. They do however, offer special stainless steel fastener kits. The exterior lens screw kit and deflection shield fastener kits are among stainless fastener products that they offer.

Don't remember if I have e-mailed you before or not but I am looking for a drivers side mirror and an airfilter box. Do you have a list of parts available.

The analysis you have presented at ftp://dmcnews.com/pub/analysis.pdf is great! I was wondering if the raw data at http://www.dmcnews.com/Resource/chronology.html has been updated with the DOD data, or is this just a stale link? Is the current raw data available?
While on the DOD... When the directory started it was available for download by anyone on the DOD list. Will it ever be again?
I am not clear on how or why the DOD has changed over the past year or so. It went from a free on-line publication for the participants only, to a list that can be viewed by anyone (a invasion of privacy) and a $5 charge for the complete printed copy (who is making money on the distribution of my personal information?) Frankly, this is not what I signed up for. I see there is still a "DMC-News Members Only Lounge", but is this still active and up to date? (I dont remember the Password)
I would like to see the DOD return to how it was presented. The option of a printed copy for a small copy/mail charge should be made available, but the "Listed Owners" page should be modified to include less information.

Greetings from Colorado
I have several collector cars and have them insured through J.C. Taylor in Penn. They advertise in Hemmings Motor News, available through most news stands. They added my '81 to the others this Fall. Their underwriting rules will allow them to insure collector cars up to '81 now, next year '82 etc.... The car must be a "collector" and yearly mileage kept low, also must be stored in a secured garage.
Rates are very low and company is highly rated

I'm working on the dyno data. It is even more interesting than I thought. The torque of the turbocharged engine was fantastic, especially at higher rpms. The stick vs. automatic D. The automatic 10 less ft/lb torque across the whole rpm range. 15 Less horsepower again across the whole rpm range. This is actually quite normal since there are more losses in a automatic trans.
The delorean ignition system falls apart at about 4,700 ON ALL CARS. We think it is the coil. The cars have the ability to go to 5,500 rpm easily. Since the distribution does not have points, it has to be the coil.

The Canadian import tax is nothing compared to the taxes in Norway... to get a good DeLorean imported, taxed and registered you have to pay about $ 7,000 (!)
Calculation: Tax for the cars weight, kw, and ccm. VAT 23%, registration about $200,-
We often say "Look to Norway". This expression does certainly not apply when talking about Norwegian taxes...
The positive thing is when the car reaches 30 years old, the taxes are no more than $400,-
This also means that you must be out of your mind importing a DeLorean to Norway when the car is 29 years of age. Wait one year to achieve "classic status" and you save lots of $$$
Best wishes Stian Birkeland NORWAY

In some cases, stainless steel is not the correct material for a fastener. Stainless can't easily be painted, which means any application that requires a black finish is difficult to achieve. Stainless is brittle compared to other materials, which means that any structural fastener or one that is subjected to vibration should not be stainless. Also, stainless hardware is not all that cheap, particularly if you are worried about rust. Some lower cost grades of stainless will corrode eventually.
If you are interested in getting stainless fasteners for your car, have a look at McMaster-Carr at http://www.mcmaster.com

About two years I switched from State Farm to Progressive and saved a lot, plus they were less concerned about my families driving record. They took my Delorean without any problem. Hello, Many have questioned the quality of the DeLorean. The owners KNOW that the car is very solid built, and often the quality-questions boil down to the "little things". At the same time it is the little things that makes the car so fun to own and drive.
DeLorean enthusiasts - be assured - the DeLorean is an excellent sportscar.
On a related subject - Audi Roadster and Audi TT Cou péowners have now received a factory recall regarding the stabilizer bar and rear spoiler. Now, DeLorean had only one serious safety recall regarding the front suspension and balljoints. DeLorean was a new company, and had a new car. Audi has been an automanufacturer for a very long time. This shows that the unexpected will always be a part of the car industry...
PS! I now hear that the Jensen is about to rise again from the ashes. Now, when will the DeLorean get its well-deserved revival?
Best wishes Stian Birkeland NORWAY

I liked the gull-wing doors on the Delorean and that s one thing that interesred me in the Bricklin, E-mail me if you want more information on the Bricklin. I have pictures of it.

Listed below are the contents of my DeLorean memorabilia collection that I have amassed over the past several years. Rather than sell it on ebay, where I could probably make a LOT more cash but go through far more hassle, I'm offering it to the readers of the DML.
Everything should be self-explanatory. First-come, first served. I have just one of each item in most cases. Check or money order only. Buyer pays actual shipping costs plus insurance if desired. If payment not received within 5 days, item goes back on list for re-sale. I didn't collect junk, only excellent items. If it's not listed below, I don't have it or I'm not selling it, so don't ask.
One side of a De Lorean Motor Company dealer sign (no lights) $700 Dealer Banner, two sided (like the one on ebay that just sold for $600+) $500 Rarest DeLorean poster (America's most talked about car!) $250 Complete Advertising Marketing Binder $200 Consumer Research Study in imprinted Binder $300 DMC Employee Necktie $150 DMCL Director Necktie (formerly owned by Director of Engineering Mike Loasby) $300 August 1979 DeLorean Motor Company Newsletter $30 Fall 1980 DeLorean Motor Company Newsletter $30 Original (not repro) molded head key blank (why wait for Lee?) $40 Original lighted head key blank (Super Rare) $150 DeLorean Phone Card $30 DeLorean Collectors Plate (DOA item) $75 Set of DeLorean World Back Issues w/3 binders $200 ZEE Zylmex die-cast DeLorean "matchbox" car with opening doors, still on blister card $40 Gold DMC Factory tie-tack $125 1981 Owners Manual, dealer listing, warranty, PDI form, with 81 style valet $300 1982 Owners Manual, dealer listing, warranty, PDI form, with 82 style valet $400 American Express catalog w/gold DeLorean & BONUS letter from C.R. On Dyno Day we got printouts of horsepower and torque curves verses rpm. However, we did not get the time verses horsepower and torque curves. I have requested these to get the 0 to 60 and beyond times.
I should be able to get these by the middle of next week. The guy (Charlie) who runs the dyno is out of town until then. As the saying goes "Hurry up and wait."
I am trying to digest and graph the data as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, my son has taken ill and we are spending a great deal of time at the doctors and hospital. They do not know what is wrong with him other than some virsus is damaging his kidneys and upper respiratory cavities.

I would just like to say I too use J.C. Taylor. I have used them in the past with some other Antique cars I have owned. I can only offer background of the DOD while I was responsible for it...so for those who are new, here's the history...
A few years back, when the DOA decided they couldn't produce a member directory, I started the DeLorean Owners Dirrectory (DOD). The only criteria for being listed was you had to supply a valid VIN. The only way you could get a copy was to be listed in it, too.
The first couple revisions of it were available in a password-protected directory at the DMC-News website. I printed some copies for folks who did not have an email address (and theoretically no web access) to facilitate the folks who submitted their information via a regional club mailing.
The last printed edition was in May of 98, with some 400+ entries. De Lorean Motor Company (Houston) helped pay for the printing of it and in return I gave them an ad on the back cover.
When I handed the DML to Dave Swingle and the rest of the moderating team, the DOC was placed in the hands of Ken Montgomery. Ken spent an ENORMOUS amount of time updating the data, and entering in the new data. I understand the DOD has nearly doubled in size now, and it's really a monumental task to keep updated.
I'm sure Dave and ken will chime in with facts, but in St. Louis I heard that there was some sort of technical problem keeping the DOD from being posted in the "lounge".
No one, NO ONE, is doing this as a money-making venture. A quantity of current DOD's was printed (with no subsidizing by DMC this time, though it was offered) and the nominal charge for a printed copy is simply to cover the expense of printing and mailing.

Bob, would you explain where exactly you got your information?
According to extensive road tests on a stock factory DeLorean as reported by "Road & Track" magazine they found the following:
1st gear: 6500 rpm - 40 MPH (no ignition problems so far) 2nd gear: 6500 rpm - 64 MPH (still no ignition problems) 3rd gear: 6500 rpm - 98 MPH (near peak of the torque range, still no ignition problems) 4th gear: 5600 rpm - 109 MPH (torque falls apart here) 5th gear: 4400 rpm - 109 MPH (top achievable speed - torque gave out already, unable to push the car beyond 109 MPH, but still no ignition problems)
It appears obvious to me that if the stock original DeLorean had been fitted with an engine with a little more HP and torque it could have easily achieved the touted 130+ MPH. As it is, it appears that, as stock, the scientific test results as reported by "Road & Track" are more realistic than the "dreamers" want to believe.

Hello Ed, I disagree with that.
I live here in Germany and own a factory stock DeLorean. Maybe you know we had no speed limit on german Highways (called "Autobahn"). So I can drive my car at top speed when ever I want it. Now I have to say my car reaches 210km/h without a problem, with good conditions (free road, a little wind from the back) the car reaches 220km/h (stopped, not taken from the odometer).
Sure the DeLorean isn´t a fast car (here in germany beaten by near every small family car), but it is even faster as reported by "Road & Track".

In the same Road and Track story they report and I quote "The V-6 revs freely up to about 5500-6000 rpm, but it feels increasingly strained as the revs rise and is not eager to go all the way to the 6500-rpm redline."
So just maybe Robert, is onto something here.

Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Hello DMLers,
I was wondering if any of you have John Delorean's address, I have tried to send a letter to him twice, one to an address in New York, and the other to Far Hills, New Jersey. Both were returned to me with different complaints from the Postal Service. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Kevin Rawlings

There are usefuls scraps of information recorded in various sources; for
example the UK government Committee of Public Accounts which investigated the
whole thing states;
"...sales of cars to 31 January 1982 were:-
cars produced 8,333
cars shipped to USA 7,401
cars sold to dealers 5,114
retail sales by dealers 3,347 "
Best wishes, Robert Lamrock Belfast
