I have mixed feelings about this. What would be the impact on
commercial involvement in any of the official activities of the DML? It
kind of goes against the purpose of the list in some ways. Would a
sponsor of the DOD imply that they own the list??

With the information on the name list, and a little searching on the
net- you could make your own complete DOD list. It is not hard to find
phone numbers and street addresses with full names, and town. While I
dont have a problem with this personally (right now...), it does go
against the privacy that was expected when we all signed up for it.

Sorry if you think I am beating anyone! I am just putting in my $.02 to
help improve what we already have. Tone does not translate well on
E-mail. Be assured, my comments were made to question the status, and
give "feedback" as to the current state of the DOD.

Hi Ed, heīs problem is easy to explain.
Ten years ago as the iron curtain fall down came a lot of so callend "businessman"
from Poland to the "west" countrys to buy all cheap used cars they can get. They
bought every pice of yunk including complete cars from junkyards to import this
pieces of scrap to Poland. At this time here in Germany you canīt get a used car
under $7000 the cheaper ones are completly sold out to Poland. You canīt imagine
at this time there are standing thousands (we measured them in miles) of that cars
at the german/poland border waiting for crossing it.
To stop that kind of business the polands made a law that forbids to import cars
older than ten years. But the polands are really funny people. By now the
disasemble the cars her in germany, so the have only "spare parts", put them on a
truck cross the border and build them back together in Poland.
So the only chance for Tom to import his DeLorean to Poland is doing it the same
way. He only had to remove the body from the frame and ship to car in two sets of
"spare parts" to Poland.
That isnīt really funny, but it works...

In the mid 1980's I imported 2 used Mercedes-Benz "Grey Cars" to the United
States . It was quite a hassle and I had to have them completely rebuilt to
US DOT standards and Pass EPA tests, no easy task with tons of paperwork. I
was "assigned" a VIN Number and had a plate riveted to the door jamb listing
my name as the manufacturer/importer, and the date of manufacture (a date
pulled out of the air). I could have called it a 1986 Smithmobile, since it
was classified as "Other" category by the State of New Hampshire, not unlike
an experimental aircraft I imagine. Years ago a friend who needed a title
for an Amphicar in Michigan went through the same problems ....My point
Where there is a will there is a way, and a legal way, I am sure. Keep
looking.

shields available from the Delorean parts suppliers, replaced them with
something else or not replace that at all? Is there other options?

I personally see no problem with advertising on anything published by the
DML as long as the opportunity is presented to everyone.
The DML is free to subscibers. However, it is not a free resource. There
is a very real cost to keeping this up even though the moderators get paid
nothing. The past history of the DML would indicate that the sales of
items produced by the DML have not paid for the costs incurred. I'm afraid
I don't understand ANYONE'S concern. The moderators are a very diverse
group. A number of us have never met. ANYONE who even hints that we, as a
group, could be influenced by a $25 - $50 - or even $100 advertising
contribution doesn't know us or our commitment to keeping the dream alive.
I think these comments are worth more than 2=A2.

This is somewhat related, but I felt I needed to tell it. Yesterday, I was
out driving my DeLorean, and had it parked at a gas station while I was
getting some things. During this time, myself and a gentleman that was
looking at it got to talking. After the usual amount of questions, he told
me he had a friend that had a DeLorean and had just had a wreck in Tennessee.
I said, oh, was his last name Lang? He couldn't believe that I knew. And
when I told him that he was in the hospital, he took off pretty quick. Seems
that he had heard about it on the radio the day after it happened, whereas we
all knew it the day of. And didn't even know he was in the hospital. I
don't really know where that applies here, but I felt I needed to share it.

Hello Dick,
I am aware of the 15000, 16000, 17000 and 20000 series of DeLorean VIN
numbers. What I was trying to say was that in the 11000 series the VIN 11786
is the highest I've ever seen (not including the British right hand drive
VIN 12174).
According to the DOA's 8583, there were 6539 1981 models, 1126 1982 models
and 918 1983 models.
Now, since the 1982 models start on VIN 10000 the last VIN for the 1982
DeLoreans would have been 11126!!!
In other words, the 8583 number is not correct!
Best wishes
Stian Birkeland
