Hi Everyone,
This is just to announce that the Mid-State DeLorean Club now has a Web
site:
http://www.midstatedmc.com/
Dave Swingle was kind enough to put a link on the DMC News Clubs page,
but I wanted to announce it to everyone since a lot of people probably
don't check the Web site regularly.
We are located primarily in Central and Southern Illinois, but have
members from all over the midwest.
The site also has info on some parts that a couple of the club members
have located or developed. We have preliminary info on a K&N air filter
kit. And we have info on the 140mph Speedometer conversion kit, a
replacement radio bracket that can be pre-cut for DIN size stereos, CV
Boot kits, shock conversion kits, and lots of other items. Come on over
and check us out!

Mike,
I'm temporarily stuck reading the DML off the eGroups Web site and they
don't post e-mail addresses properly. I have also tried guessing the
missing letter and sent an e-mail, but was afraid if I got it wrong I
would miss you.
I live in Bloomington. E-mail me at mark(AT)buffalochips.org and send your
phone number and a good time to call and I'll give ya a call.

Is that what it cost for the Northstar engine? $20,000! If that is
for a stock, nothing special Cadilac engine that is INSANE! You have
to be able to do far better for far less money. Surely you could come
up with a better horsepower to dollar ratio.
If I am missing something here please let me know, maybe that engine is
worth the money-- I am not an expert.

John DeLorean used to own a DMC-12, and had it on display in the lobby
of his snow-mobile factory in Utah. When he sold the factory, the car
went with it, and as of now, he does not own a DeLorean. He has said
before however that he might consider buying one again in the future.

Subject: [DML] Re: POLL: Stainless Steel Frame
Mime-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
I am not affiliated with Peearce Design, but I did ask the a couple of the
questions in the FAQ section on their website:
 http://www.pearce-design.com/html/faq.html
There should be many answers to your doubts there, but I've copied the pertinent
ones here:
Q: Is the frame as strong as the original? - A rhetorical question
since it must be. Therefore, is it heavier? How much/little?
A: The new Stainless Steel frame without any coatings weighs 10
pounds more than the original frame with its epoxy coating. As
far as strength, the original frame would handle 130 FtLbs for
torque in the engine compartment, the new frame will handle 310
FtLbs of torque in the engine compartment with a calculated
 correspondence throughout the frame.
Q: Did you deem it impossible to redesign the frame to allow for
the inherent lesser tensile strengths and moduli (?) of elasticity?
Did you consider other metals, and how much?
A: This was of course, the main concern. The frame overall is
stronger than the original and only 10 pounds heavier. We were
surprised that the weight only increased by 10 pounds. Some of
the weight may be saved on the new frame by not coating it with
 anything.
Best Wishes,
Martin

Look for us Saturday afternoon in the formation area and stop by and say 'HI'

Thank all of you for your concern about my son. He is better now. The
doctors were not able to diagnosis what was wrong even with $500 is lab
tests. "It was just a nasty virsus!!"
The HP curves for the dyno testing are in the DML vault. I plan on
finishing the torque curves 0-60 times, 1/4 times. Top speed, etc, this
week end.

That price is not just for the engine. That includes installation/fabrication

replacing other mechanical components such as the radiator.

When my car's parked in front of the store, lots of customers ask about it-
this morning one man asked me if that was sterling silver!
Someone told me that Ace Frehley (sp?) of KISS was once almost killed in a
DeLorean. I had never heard that, does anyone know if it was so, or when and
where it happened?

I agree. The supplier of the Northstar conversion is on the list. I
have asked him about a DIY kit, and there are no plans for such a thing.
I have looked in to other conversions, and considering that the
Chevy/Buick conversions can be had for under $10,000 the northstar deal
is just not worth it to me. That is not to say that the price is not
fair for the work he is doing (I dont know what that is in detail, so I
cant say.)
If someone gave me a DeLorean for free, I would still have trouble
spending 20K on any modification.

It's right on Main street in Irvine. The address is 2055 and the sign

Embassy Suites Hotel. A Grey nondescript looking building. This is
about a
mile from John Wayne Airport. The address is given in the book

The DML has existed long enough that it has featured many discussions about the DOA. One of the most common
criticisms of the DOA is that DeLorean World does not *currently* publish enough technical information.
Those who defend the DOA, here I include myself, generally claim that just about every technical subject has
*already* been covered in DeLorean World at least once, complete with pictures and diagrams. DW cannot publish an
article unless someone submits it, and good writers seldom take the time to write an article that has been done
before. If writers want to publish repeat information they should write new articles, in the mean time if members
want this information they may purchase back issues of DW at reasonable prices.
In my new role as a moderator, I sense that the DML is in a similar predicament. The greatest number of complaints we
get BY FAR are from subscribers who are overwhelmed by the volume of DML postings. Even the digest has become
burdensome to read (I've tried). The only relief we could offer would be to reject more posts, especially on topics
that have been repeated many times. Unfortunately, subscribers complaining that we reject too many of their posts
probably ranks a distant second among complaint classifications.
Both the DML and the DOA constantly walk an editorial tightrope, trying to please as many people as possible without
tipping over toward either side. For the sake of the DeLorean community, I hope that both groups do a 'good enough'
job.
Perhaps next week we should follow up the DOA survey with a similar survey about the DML.

Update
I understand in the chat session with Steven that the question of rooms for
the <A HREF="http://deloreancarshow.com">Cleveland DeLorean Car Show June
15-18 Year 2000</A> came up.
to Clarify again I have 80 rooms reserved 40 Kings and 40 doubles smoking and
non smoking. We used 72 at the Cincinnati Show.
As I have asked if some of you can book the room early I will be able to get
40 more rooms then there will be more than enough. I need to book 40 before
they will give me more and that is only if they have them.
I also have some other rooms available but they are 20 minutes away.
The show is going along very well and all activities are set I even added
another DeLorean Road Rally (no charge) We have plenty of room and
everything will be bigger and better than the last time
I have a new web page with an easy to use name.
It is almost done and I will release more information on that.
A thanks to Hawkeye and Richard for the new web page
we are almost done.
Registration for the events will begin January 1st
Hotel registration is anytime
the number is on the URL in the web page
Again thanks and I hope this clears up the room question
